Quick answer from a licensed plumber: Buy the RIDGID PowerClear. It and the K-30 share the same 1/4 by 30 foot cable size and 450 RPM speed and are both rated for 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch sink, tub and shower lines, per RIDGID’s manuals. The PowerClear is the one in RIDGID’s 2025 catalog, adds a clear housing, a 48 inch guide hose option and a GFCI in the cord, and was sold by Amazon.com on our check date. The K-30 has an older manual (2012), is a pound lighter, and was sold only by a third-party seller. Neither is rated for toilets, and neither manual rates its machine for 2 inch lines.
For sinks, tubs and showers: the RIDGID PowerClear (55808), an AUTOFEED drum machine for 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch lines. Check the RIDGID PowerClear on Amazon
The RIDGID PowerClear and the RIDGID K-30 are close cousins. Both are small AUTOFEED drum machines for 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch sink, tub and shower lines, per their manuals. Both spin a 1/4 by 30 foot MAXCORE 50 cable at 450 RPM, and both run the motor from a foot switch. The PowerClear is the one in RIDGID’s 05/2025 catalog, with a clear housing, an 18 or 48 inch guide hose option and a GFCI in the cord. The K-30 is the Auto-Clean machine, with an older manual (2012) and one pound less weight. For bigger machines and other types, see the best drain cleaning machines. I run RIDGID and Milwaukee tools on my own jobs; every spec below comes from RIDGID’s manuals and catalog.

Which One Should You Buy?
Start with the drain
Both manuals rate these machines for 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch lines in sinks, tubs and showers. Plumber’s note: that covers most lav, kitchen sink, tub and shower drains in homes, but laundry standpipes are often 2 inch (our judgment, not a RIDGID figure). Neither manual rates its machine for 2 inch. RIDGID’s catalog lists the PowerClear up to 2 inch; the manual does not. Both manuals say to use the drain cleaner only for the recommended drain sizes, and both warn that feeding cable into a larger drain line can make it kink or knot. For a 2 inch laundry line, RIDGID’s K-45 manual rates its 5/16 inch inner core cable for 1-1/4 to 2 inch lines, and the K-45AF (35473) comes with that cable, per RIDGID’s catalog. Its Amazon listing calls that cable ideal for 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch lines; we follow RIDGID’s K-45 manual for the inner core version.
The specs that match
Cable size, cable length and speed are the same on paper: 1/4 by 30 feet of MAXCORE 50 cable at 450 RPM. Both have a 2-way AUTOFEED unit with ADVANCE and RETRIEVE levers, a guide hose over the cable, and a foot switch for the motor. Both manuals say to keep the end of the AUTOFEED within 6 inches of the drain opening, and to extend the drain access with similar sized pipe and fittings if the machine cannot sit that close.
Where they differ
The PowerClear manual gives a feed rate of 18 feet per minute, a guide hose that sets up at 18 or 48 inches, a clear front housing to watch the cable, a drain plug and a GFCI built into the cord. The K-30 manual lists a GFCI only “if equipped” on 120V units, gives no feed rate or hose length, and limits lines to 25 feet long. The K-30 is 11 pounds and the PowerClear is 12. Plumber’s note: for a machine sitting on the floor outside a tub, the 48 inch hose setup is the one to use, since the AUTOFEED still has to reach within 6 inches of the overflow (our judgment).
Buying one
On October 1, 2026, the PowerClear kit was sold by Amazon.com. We found no K-30 machine sold by Amazon.com or RIDGID; the linked K-30 is from a third-party seller. Amazon also lists PowerClear bundles with a RIDGID 21338 Auto-Spin cable, which that listing says is for the Auto-Spin sink machine, or with a T-240 tool set, which the listing describes as a drum machine tool set. Neither add-on appears in the PowerClear manual’s accessory list, so we link the plain kit.
RIDGID PowerClear Drain Cleaning Machine (55808)
AUTOFEED drum machine · 3/4 to 1-1/2 in. lines (manual); 3/4 to 2 in. (catalog) · 1/4 x 30 ft MAXCORE 50 cable · 450 RPM no-load · 1/4 HP universal motor (120V) · AUTOFEED 18 ft per min · FOR/OFF/REV switch plus pneumatic foot switch · GFCI in the line cord · 12 lb · 14 x 9 x 11.5 in. (manual)
RIDGID’s manual says the PowerClear is designed to clean 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch drain lines in sinks, tubs and showers, with a 30 foot cable. RIDGID’s 2025 catalog says it clears 3/4 to 2 inch lines. The Amazon listing for the linked kit says 3/4 to 1.5 inch, which matches the manual, so we follow the manual. A 2-way AUTOFEED unit advances and retrieves the cable with a push of a lever at 18 feet per minute, per the manual. A FOR/OFF/REV switch sets the drum direction, and a pneumatic foot switch turns the motor on and off.
Three details set it apart from the K-30 on paper. The clear front housing lets you watch how much cable is still in the drum. The guide hose goes together as 18 inches, for a machine sitting on a counter next to a sink, or 48 inches with the 30 inch extension, for a machine on the floor outside a tub. And it has a drain plug for emptying the machine, where the K-30 manual says to tip the machine forward. Both drums come out after you loosen three cover screws. The manual also says not to set it on carpet, which can block the air vents underneath. The linked kit (55808) includes the machine, the cable, the 2-piece guide hose and the manual, per the listing. A spare RIDGID 55983 replacement cable is the one the manual lists.
- Listed in RIDGID’s 05/2025 catalog (120V: 55808)
- Guide hose sets up at 18 in. or 48 in., so the machine can sit on a counter or on the floor beside a tub
- Clear front housing shows how much cable is left in the drum
- Drain plug for cleanup; GFCI built into the cord, per the manual
- Rated to 1-1/2 in. in the manual (2 in. in the catalog); not for 2 in. laundry lines by the manual’s numbers
- RIDGID says it is not recommended for toilets
- The manual lists one cable, 1/4 x 30 ft (55983); no larger cable for bigger lines
- Not for carpet: the air vents are on the underside
Verdict: The one to buy new for sinks, lavs, tubs and showers: same cable size and speed as the K-30, with a 2025 catalog listing and Amazon.com as the seller.
RIDGID K-30 Auto-Clean Sink Machine (34963)
AUTOFEED drum machine · 3/4 to 1-1/2 in. lines (manual) · up to 25 ft long with 1/4 in. cable (manual set-up steps) · 1/4 x 30 ft MAXCORE 50 cable (34893) · 450 RPM · universal motor, double insulated, 1.1 A at 120V · ON/OFF/REV switch plus air foot pedal · GFCI on 120V units if equipped · 11 lb (manual)
RIDGID’s K-30 manual calls it the Auto-Clean drain cleaning machine and says it is designed to clean 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch drain lines in sinks, tubs and showers. Like the PowerClear, it has a 2-way AUTOFEED unit, an air foot pedal for motor ON/OFF, a 1/4 by 30 foot MAXCORE 50 cable and an operating speed of 450 RPM. The manual weighs it at 11 pounds. Its set-up steps say it is made for lines “up to 1-1/2 inch (32 mm)” up to 25 feet long with 1/4 inch cable. 32 mm is closer to 1-1/4 inch (our arithmetic), so the manual disagrees with itself on the top size; the description and spec table both say 1-1/2 inch.
The K-30 is the older of the two by manual date: its manual carries a 2012 copyright, and the PowerClear manual carries 2016 and 2020. RIDGID’s 05/2025 catalog lists the PowerClear but not the K-30. The K-30 manual gives no AUTOFEED feed rate and no guide hose lengths. It has a slip clutch that limits machine movement at start-up, and the manual says the clutch may need adjusting after extended use. To clean out the drum, the manual says to flush the cable and tip the machine forward to drain debris. We found no K-30 sold by Amazon.com or RIDGID on October 1, 2026. The linked listing, for the RIDGID 34963 K-30 per the listing, is from a third-party seller.
- 11 lb, one pound lighter than the PowerClear (our arithmetic, from the manuals)
- Same 1/4 x 30 ft MAXCORE 50 cable size and 450 RPM speed as the PowerClear
- AUTOFEED feeds the cable straight into the drain, which RIDGID says minimizes mess and helps protect fixtures
- Double insulated motor, per the manual
- Not in RIDGID’s 2025 catalog; the manual is dated 2012
- Sold on Amazon by a third-party seller (SIM Supply, Inc.), not Amazon or RIDGID, on our check date
- Manual limits it to lines up to 25 ft long and gives a conflicting top size (1-1/2 in. vs 32 mm)
- GFCI only “if equipped” on 120V units; the manual lists no clear housing or drain plug
Verdict: A close match on cable and speed, but older and sold only by a third-party seller on Amazon. Plumber’s note: pick it only if the one-pound saving matters to you or you already keep K-30 cables (our judgment).

Before You Buy
- Measure the drain. Both manuals rate these machines for 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch lines. A 2 inch line needs a larger cable on a machine rated for it, such as the K-45.
- Check the outlet. The PowerClear has a GFCI in the cord; the K-30 has one only if equipped. Both manuals say the cord GFCI does not protect an extension cord, so use a GFCI-protected outlet or a plug-in GFCI.
- Plan the tub access. Both manuals say never to go through a bathtub drain, because it damages the cable. Remove the overflow plate and go in there.
- Leave the toilet out of it. Neither machine is recommended for toilets.
- Know when to look. Both manuals say the best way to judge a drain’s condition before cleaning is a camera inspection. See the best sewer inspection cameras.
Running Either Machine Safely
The two manuals share most of their rules. Wear safety glasses and leather work gloves, with latex or rubber gloves underneath when chemicals or bacteria may be in the line. Test the GFCI before each use, and do not run either machine while you or it stand in water. Start with the cable pulled back: no more than 6 inches outside the PowerClear, or 2 inches outside the K-30’s AUTOFEED, per the manuals. Feed at least a foot of cable into the drain before you press the foot switch, so the end cannot whip. One person must control both the cable and the foot switch.
Keep a gloved hand on the guide hose. Both manuals say the hose makes it harder to feel whether the cable end is turning, and that the hose will start to twist or squirm as the cable winds up. When that happens, release ADVANCE and press RETRIEVE to free the cable end, then feed it back slowly and let it dwell in the blockage. To get through a trap, both manuals allow running in REV for several seconds while pushing down on the guide hose; in REV, the ADVANCE lever retrieves and the RETRIEVE lever advances. Never retrieve the cable in REV. Once the drain flows, run water while you retrieve, and stop the cable before the tool leaves the drain. Both manuals recommend several passes for a complete cleaning. For hair clogs and hand tools, see the best drain snakes for shower hair and types of drain snakes.
FAQ
Can the RIDGID PowerClear clean a 2 inch line?
RIDGID’s documents disagree. The PowerClear manual lists 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch lines. RIDGID’s 2025 catalog says 3/4 to 2 inch, and the Amazon listing for the 55983 replacement cable says 1/4 inch cable clears 3/4 to 2 inch drains. We follow the manual. For 2 inch lines, RIDGID’s K-45 manual rates 5/16 inch inner core cable for 1-1/4 to 2 inch and 3/8 inch cable for 1-1/4 to 2-1/2 inch.
Can I use either machine on a toilet?
No. Both manuals say the machine is not recommended for use with toilets. Plumber’s note: use a closet auger on a toilet; see the best toilet augers.
Is the K-30 still sold by RIDGID?
We cannot confirm either way. RIDGID’s 05/2025 Diagnostics & Drain Cleaning catalog lists the PowerClear (catalog 55808) and the K-45 and K-46 sink machines, but not the K-30. On October 1, 2026, the only K-30 machine listing we found on Amazon was from a third-party seller.
Do the cables swap between the PowerClear and the K-30?
Do not assume they do. Both machines use 1/4 by 30 foot MAXCORE 50 cable, but each manual lists its own cable: 55983 for the PowerClear and 34893 for the K-30. Both manuals say to use only accessories designed and recommended for that machine.
What gloves should I wear?
Leather work gloves. Both manuals list RIDGID leather drain cleaning gloves (catalog 41937) as an accessory. Both say latex or rubber gloves go only under the leather gloves, and both warn that other gloves or a rag can wrap around the rotating cable.

Bottom Line
The RIDGID PowerClear and K-30 do the same job on paper: AUTOFEED, a 1/4 by 30 foot cable at 450 RPM, and 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch lines per the manuals. The PowerClear is the one in RIDGID’s 2025 catalog, with a clear housing, an 18 or 48 inch hose option, a cord GFCI and an Amazon.com seller. The K-30 has an older manual and is a pound lighter. For 2 inch laundry lines or toilets, neither is the right tool by RIDGID’s own ratings.
