Cable Length and Drum Capacity
The M12 drum holds up to 25 feet of 1/4- or 5/16-inch cable. The M18 can hold longer cable, but the 2772A-21 kit still ships with 35 feet. If you need a different size, include the replacement cable and compatible head in your buying comparison.
Do not treat drum capacity as usable reach. The M18 manual describes an end-of-cable indicator about three feet from the cable’s rear end. Follow the machine’s operating instructions and keep the cable under control rather than feeding until it leaves the drum.
Powered Feed vs Hand Feed
The M12 uses manual cable feed and a slide-action lock. The M18 CABLE DRIVE system powers feeding and retraction, with a twist lock. Read the operating manual for the correct feed, lock and rotation settings; powered feeding does not make the machine hands-free.
For repeated drain work, weigh powered feeding against the whole kit, including any replacement cable you would need. For an occasional home blockage, a simpler tool may be enough. We have not measured a time saving for these machines.
Compare weight with the cable and battery installed
Published weights are not consistently labeled for the same setup.
