Makita Black Friday Combo Kits: What Is in Each Box

Plumbing Picks is reader-supported. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

Quick answer from a licensed plumber: For most plumbers, the Makita XT269T: a brushless hammer driver-drill rated to 1/2 inch in masonry, a 1,500 in-lb impact driver, two 5.0Ah batteries and the fan-cooled DC18RC rapid charger. Without hammer mode, the XT281S. For work inside cabinets and vanities, the sub-compact CX203SYB. The 12V CT232 (named, not linked) is a light household kit on a separate battery. We list no Black Friday prices; this page decodes what is in each box.

Our pick for most plumbers: the Makita XT269T 18V LXT brushless 2-piece combo kit with 5.0Ah batteries. Check the Makita XT269T on Amazon

Black Friday is Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday is November 30. Makita kits can change price and bundle by the hour that week, so this page lists no prices. It decodes what is in each box instead: which battery platform, how big the batteries are, which charger, and what the drill is rated to bore. The three 18V kits linked here were sold by Amazon.com when we checked, the 12V CT232 is named but not linked, and every spec comes from Makita’s own pages and manuals.

Figures from Makita’s kit pages and the XPH12, XFD13, XFD15 and FD09 manuals. Each linked kit was sold by Amazon.com and in stock on October 5, 2026. The CT232 is not linked: when we checked on October 5, 2026, its Amazon listing was sold by a third-party seller. All four are 2-tool kits: the Makita kits with three or more tools we found on Amazon were from third-party sellers, so we left them out. The XPH12, XFD13 and FD09 manuals give one wood figure without naming the bit; the XFD15 manual lists it by bit type, so the wood figures are not like-for-like.

How to Check a Makita Black Friday Listing

  • 18V LXT or 12V max CXT. The XT269T, XT281S and CX203SYB run on 18V LXT batteries. The CT232 runs on 12V max CXT, a separate platform. Buy the one the person already owns.
  • Hammer driver-drill or driver-drill. Only the XT269T has hammer mode, rated to 1/2 inch in masonry per its manual. The others are for wood and metal.
  • Battery size. The kits range from 1.5Ah to 5.0Ah packs. Makita’s kit names show it in parentheses, like (5.0Ah).
  • The charger. The XT269T includes the fan-cooled DC18RC Rapid Optimum Charger. The XT281S include list names the DC18SD, which Makita’s site now marks discontinued, so check the charger on the listing. Makita’s quoted charge times are on its DC18RC page.
  • Brushed or brushless. Makita’s spec tables list the XT269T, XT281S and CX203SYB as brushless. Makita’s CT225SYX compact kit, also sold by Amazon.com when we checked, is listed as brushed, which is one reason it is not a pick here. Makita’s CT232 page lists no motor type.
  • Who sells it. The three kits linked here were sold by Amazon.com when we checked; the CT232 listing and the larger Makita kits we found were from third-party sellers. On any other seller’s listing, read the include list against Makita’s own page.
Best for Plumbers

Makita XT269T 18V LXT Brushless 2-Pc. Combo Kit (5.0Ah)

XPH12Z compact brushless 1/2 in. hammer driver-drill, 2 speeds (0-500 / 0-2,000 RPM), 530 in-lbs max torque, 4.2 lb with battery (kit page) · XDT13Z brushless impact driver (0-3,400 RPM, 0-3,600 IPM), 1,500 in-lbs max torque, 3.3 lb with battery · (2) BL1850B 5.0Ah batteries · DC18RC Rapid Optimum Charger · tool bag · 3-year limited warranty

This is the Makita kit I would point a plumber to. The drill is a hammer driver-drill, and its manual lists drilling capacities of 1/2 inch in masonry, 1/2 inch in steel and 38 mm (1-1/2 inches) in wood. Makita rates it at 530 in-lbs of max torque and lists XPT, its sealing for dust and water resistance, on the drill. The kit page lists the drill at 4.2 pounds with a battery; the XPH12 manual gives 3.5 to 4.0 pounds.

It is also the only kit here whose include list names Makita’s fan-cooled DC18RC Rapid Optimum Charger, which Makita says charges a 5.0Ah battery in 45 minutes, and it has two 5.0Ah packs, the biggest batteries on this page. The impact driver is the brushless XDT13Z at 1,500 in-lbs of max torque, per Makita.

  • Hammer mode, rated to 1/2 in. in masonry, per the manual
  • Two 5.0Ah batteries, the largest on this page
  • DC18RC rapid charger: 5.0Ah in 45 minutes, per Makita
  • Brushless drill and impact driver
  • Wood capacity is 1-1/2 in. (38 mm), per the manual: not a big hole-saw drill
  • Heaviest drill here: 4.2 lb with battery on Makita’s kit page (3.5 to 4.0 lb in the manual)
  • Makita’s overview misprints the drill torque as 530 ft.lbs; its feature list says 530 in.lbs

Verdict: The kit to buy if you drill anchor holes in block and concrete as well as drive screws.

Best Without Hammer Mode

Makita XT281S 18V LXT Brushless 2-Pc. Combo Kit (3.0Ah)

XFD13Z compact brushless 1/2 in. driver-drill, 2 speeds (0-500 / 0-1,900 RPM), 440 in-lbs max torque, 3.6 lb with battery · XDT13Z brushless impact driver, 1,500 in-lbs max torque, 3.3 lb with battery · (2) BL1830B 3.0Ah batteries · DC18SD charger · tool bag · 3-year limited warranty

The XT281S has the same XDT13Z impact driver as the XT269T, with a driver-drill in place of the hammer drill. Makita rates the XFD13Z at 440 in-lbs of max torque and 3.6 pounds with a battery, and its manual lists drilling capacities of 1/2 inch in steel and 1-1/2 inches in wood. It has no hammer mode, so it is not the drill for masonry anchors.

Read the charger line. Makita’s kit page says the 3.0Ah batteries each reach a full charge in only 30 minutes, and its DC18RC charger page gives the same 30 minutes for a 3.0Ah pack. But the XT281S include list names a different charger, the DC18SD, and neither page gives a charge time for the DC18SD. Makita’s own DC18SD page marks that charger discontinued, so check which charger the listing ships with.

  • Same XDT13Z impact driver as the XT269T
  • Lighter drill than the XT269T: 3.6 lb vs 4.2 lb with battery, per Makita’s kit pages
  • Two 3.0Ah batteries
  • Brushless drill and impact driver
  • No hammer mode
  • Include list names the DC18SD charger, which Makita’s site marks discontinued, not the fan-cooled DC18RC
  • Smaller batteries than the XT269T

Verdict: Buy it if the drilling is wood and metal, not block or concrete.

Best for Tight Spaces

Makita CX203SYB 18V LXT Sub-Compact Brushless 2-Pc. Combo Kit (1.5Ah)

XFD15ZB sub-compact brushless 1/2 in. driver-drill, 2 speeds (0-500 / 0-1,700 RPM), 350 in-lbs peak torque, 5-7/8 in. long, 2.9 lb with battery · XDT18ZB sub-compact brushless impact driver, 1,240 in-lbs max torque, 2 speeds, Assist Mode, 5-1/4 in. long, 2.6 lb with battery · (2) 18V compact 1.5Ah batteries · charger · tool bag · 3-year limited warranty

Makita calls these sub-compact tools “12V handling with 18V performance,” and the sizes back up the small part: the drill is 5-7/8 inches long and the impact driver 5-1/4 inches, per Makita. That is the kit for work inside a vanity or sink base. Its drill manual lists a 2-inch hole saw, a 1-7/16-inch auger bit and a 1-3/8-inch self-feed bit in wood.

The impact driver has Assist Mode, which Makita says helps eliminate screw cam-out and cross threading by driving at low speed until impact begins. Makita lists 350 in-lbs of peak torque for the drill and 1,240 in-lbs of max torque for the impact driver. The batteries are small 1.5Ah compact packs; the drill’s manual lists the 18V compact BL1815N alongside Makita’s larger 18V LXT packs, and Makita says that compact battery is compatible with 18V LXT tools.

  • Drill 5-7/8 in. and impact 5-1/4 in. long, per Makita
  • Drill manual lists a 2 in. hole saw in wood
  • Assist Mode on the impact driver, per Makita
  • Brushless, and takes 18V LXT batteries, per the manual
  • Small 1.5Ah batteries
  • Lowest drill torque of the 18V kits here: 350 in-lbs peak, per Makita
  • No hammer mode

Verdict: The pick for cabinet, vanity and fixture work where the tool has to fit.

Lightest Tools (12V)

Makita CT232 12V max CXT 2-Pc. Combo Kit (1.5Ah)

FD09Z 3/8 in. driver-drill, 2 speeds (0-450 / 0-1,700 RPM), 250 in-lbs max torque, 7 in. long, 2.4 lb with battery · DT03Z impact driver (0-2,600 RPM, 0-3,500 IPM), 970 in-lbs max torque, 6 in. long, 2.3 lb with battery · (2) 12V max CXT 1.5Ah batteries · DC10WD charger · 14 in. contractor tool bag · 3-year limited warranty

The CT232 is Makita’s 12V max CXT kit, a different battery from 18V LXT. Its tools are the lightest here, 2.4 pounds for the drill and 2.3 for the impact driver with a battery, per Makita, and the slide batteries let both tools stand up on their own. Makita notes CXT tools are not compatible with 12V max pod-style tools, batteries and chargers.

It is a light-duty kit. The FD09 manual lists drilling capacities of 3/8 inch in steel and 21 mm (13/16 inch) in wood, and Makita rates the drill at 250 in-lbs and the impact at 970 in-lbs of max torque. For someone who hangs shelves and tightens fixtures, that is plenty; for rough-in, it is not.

Not linked: when we checked on October 5, 2026, the Amazon listing for the CT232 was sold by a third-party seller.

  • Lightest tools here: 2.4 lb drill, 2.3 lb impact, per Makita
  • Batteries let the tools stand up, per Makita
  • Two batteries, a charger and a contractor bag
  • Built-in LED light
  • 12V max CXT batteries do not run 18V LXT tools
  • Drill rated to 13/16 in. in wood and 3/8 in. in steel, per the manual
  • Lowest torque on this page

Verdict: A light gift kit for household jobs, not a plumber’s main drill.

Need Bigger Holes?

Boring 2-inch and 3-inch holes through a run of joists is right-angle-drill work. The 18V drills here are rated for 1-1/2 inches in wood in their manuals, or a 2-inch hole saw for the sub-compact XFD15. For bigger bits, a right angle drill does that work; our right angle drill guide covers the Makita XAD05Z, an 18V LXT right angle drill our guide lists as rated for a 5-inch hole saw.

Buying a Makita Kit as a Gift

  1. Find out their batteries. If they run Makita 18V LXT, any of the three 18V kits adds batteries they can share. If they run another brand, a Makita kit starts a second platform.
  2. Match the drill to the work. Block and concrete anchors: the XT269T. Wood and metal only: the XT281S. Inside cabinets and vanities: the CX203SYB. Light household jobs: the CT232.
  3. Look at the charger. The XT269T is the only kit here whose include list names the DC18RC rapid charger. The CX203SYB list gives no charger model.
  4. Read the include list on the listing against the model number, especially for holiday bundles.

What About Milwaukee and DeWalt?

I carry Milwaukee M18 and M12 tools on my jobs. We do not link Milwaukee combo kits, because the Amazon listings we found for them on October 4 were from third-party sellers. If the person you are buying for runs DeWalt batteries, our DeWalt combo kit guide decodes three DeWalt kits the same way. For any other brand, buy the kit that matches the batteries they already own.

Safety: Hammer Drilling and Breakthrough

Makita’s XPH12 manual cautions that there is a tremendous and sudden twisting force on the tool and bit at hole breakthrough, when the hole clogs with chips, or when the bit strikes rebar in concrete. Hold the tool firmly, use light pressure, and use a tungsten-carbide tipped bit in masonry. If the hole clogs, do not push harder: run the tool at idle and pull the bit partly out to clear it. Hold the tool by its insulated gripping surfaces where the bit or a fastener may hit hidden wiring, use the auxiliary handle if one is supplied, and wear ear protectors when impact (hammer) drilling. Makita also says to let the tool rest for 15 minutes after running it continuously until a battery is discharged.

FAQ

What is the difference between Makita 18V LXT and 12V max CXT?

They are separate battery platforms. The XT269T, XT281S and CX203SYB run on 18V LXT batteries; the CT232 runs on 12V max CXT batteries. Makita says CXT tools are not compatible with 12V max pod-style tools, batteries and chargers. Buy the platform the person already owns.

Do the small compact batteries fit other Makita 18V tools?

Yes, per Makita. Makita’s CT225SYX kit page says its 18V compact 1.5Ah battery, the BL1815N, is compatible with 18V LXT tools, and the XFD15 drill manual from the CX203SYB kit lists the BL1815N with the larger 18V LXT packs. They are small packs, so expect shorter run time than from a 5.0Ah battery.

Which Makita kit can drill into concrete?

Of the kits here, only the XT269T. Its XPH12 hammer driver-drill manual lists a masonry capacity of 1/2 inch and says to use a tungsten-carbide tipped bit. The other three kits have driver-drills with no hammer mode.

What does Makita’s charger choice change?

Charge time. Makita says the DC18RC Rapid Optimum Charger in the XT269T charges a 5.0Ah battery in 45 minutes and a 3.0Ah in 30, with a built-in fan that cools the battery. The XT281S include list names the DC18SD instead, a charger Makita’s site marks discontinued, so check the charger model on the listing.

Why does this page show no Black Friday prices?

Prices and holiday bundles can change by the hour that week, and we cannot keep them current. This page covers what is in each box, which does not change. Amazon shows the price when you open a listing.
