Quick answer from a licensed plumber: Read the series number on the plate behind the handle, then match it. A single handle that controls temperature only is a 13/14 Series: the RP46074 for a MultiChoice valve made after March 2006, or the RP19804 for a 1300/1400 valve made before that. A handle for volume plus a separate temperature knob is a 17 Series: the RP46463 for MultiChoice, or the RP32104 for an older Monitor 1700/1800 valve.
MultiChoice 13/14 shower? Delta lists the RP46074. Its Amazon listing did not meet our stock rules on September 29, 2026, so it is not linked.

Series, functions and dates come from Delta’s own part pages and support articles, listed under Sources. If you are changing the trim rather than the cartridge, our Delta MultiChoice trim guide covers which trims fit the R10000.
Step 1: Find the Series Number
Delta says model tags are less common on tub and shower faucets, so look for the series number on the plate behind the handle, such as 1300, 1400, T14, T17 or T17T. In Delta’s words, “The Series is typically good enough to identify the cartridge.” If the plate is unmarked, Delta points to its online Product Identifier Tool on its Service & Parts page.
Step 2: Single Function or Dual Function?
If you cannot read the plate, the controls tell you most of it. Delta describes the 1300/1400 series as the kind where the handle controls the temperature only, not the volume. On the 1700/1800 series, Delta says, the handle controls volume and a separate knob sets the temperature. That matches the cartridges: the RP19804 and RP46074 are single-function cartridges that control temperature at full flow, and the RP32104 and RP46463 are dual-function cartridges that allow separate volume and temperature control.
Step 3: Before or After MultiChoice?
Delta dates its MultiChoice Universal valves to about 2006 (see the date note below), and each series has a pre-MultiChoice and a MultiChoice cartridge. Delta lists the RP46074 for MultiChoice 13/14 Series showers produced after March 2006, and the RP19804 for 1300/1400 Series showers produced before March 2006. For the dual-function side, Delta titles the RP32104 “Monitor 17 Series (04/2006 and earlier)” and the RP46463 “MultiChoice Universal 17 Series.”
Only Dripping? Try Seats and Springs First
For a 1300/1400 Series shower that drips from the showerhead or spout when it is off, Delta says a new set of seats and springs (RP4993) will solve the drip, and that replacing the whole cartridge is the other solution. Delta’s instruction for the new parts: springs fat side down inside the pocket, then the seats cup side down on top of the springs.

How Delta Says to Remove the Cartridge
- Turn off the hot and cold supply. Delta notes that may mean the whole house, the room, or supply stops on the valve behind the escutcheon.
- Turn the volume control on to relieve pressure behind the cartridge.
- Remove the handle. A knob handle has a Phillips screw under the center cap; a lever handle has a set screw on the side, which may be hidden under the handle post. Delta mentions a 1/8″ or 3/32″ hex key or a Phillips screwdriver, depending on the handle.
- Remove the bonnet. Delta says a strap wrench works best so the bonnet is not deformed, and cautions not to twist the valve.
- Wiggle the cartridge as you pull, protecting the stem. If the stem is metal, Delta suggests putting the handle back on for a better grip.
- Delta then says to turn both water supplies on full and let the water run for 60–90 seconds to flush the valve. Keep your hands and face clear; nothing is mixing or limiting the hot water at that point.
What to Buy
Each is the genuine Delta part number; none is linked right now, because on our latest checks their Amazon listings did not meet our seller and stock rules.
- MultiChoice 13/14 (after March 2006): Delta RP46074 tub and shower cartridge (not linked: its third-party seller on Amazon had 2 left on September 29, 2026). Its listing repeats Delta’s fit: MultiChoice 13/14 Series produced after March 2006, single-function, temperature control only.
- Monitor 1300/1400 (before March 2006): Delta RP19804 1300/1400 Series cartridge assembly (not linked: third-party seller only on 10/3/2026). Its listing says it fits 1300/1400 series tub and shower faucets from 04/2006 and earlier.
- Monitor 1700/1800 (older 17 Series): Delta RP32104 Monitor 17 Series cartridge assembly, a genuine Delta part that includes the rotational limit stop; Delta says it also works with 1500 Series showers produced after 1995.
- MultiChoice 17 Series: Delta RP46463 dual-function cartridge, which its listing says allows separate volume and temperature control. (That listing repeats a line from Delta’s page that calls it a 1300/1400 part; Delta’s own title for the RP46463 is MultiChoice Universal 17 Series, and the dual-function design is what the 17 Series uses.)
Parts You’ll Also Need
From Delta’s repair steps:
- For a 1300/1400 drip: Delta RP4993 seats and springs (2 seats, 2 springs), the kit Delta names for this repair.
- A strap wrench for the bonnet, which Delta says works best because it does not deform the bonnet. Any rubber strap wrench from a hardware store will do.
This page does not cover Delta’s T17T series or its diverter valves; use Delta’s Product Identifier Tool for those.
When to Call a Licensed Plumber
- You cannot shut the water off at the valve stops or the main, or the main will not hold.
- The bonnet or the valve body is damaged, or the valve twists in the wall when you turn the bonnet.
- The valve body leaks inside the wall, or water shows up below the shower.
FAQ
What is the difference between Delta RP19804 and RP46074?
Both are single-function, temperature-only cartridges for Delta’s 13/14 style showers. Delta lists the RP19804 for 1300/1400 Series showers produced before March 2006 and the RP46074 for MultiChoice 13/14 Series showers produced after March 2006.
How do I know if my Delta shower is MultiChoice?
Delta says to go by age, after 2006 for MultiChoice, or to pull the cartridge and examine the pressure-balance housing. The cartridge cap color is not reliable, because some cartridges made in April and May 2021 had black caps.
Which Delta cartridge fits a shower with a separate temperature knob?
That is a dual-function 17 Series shower. Delta lists the RP32104 for older Monitor 17 Series valves and the RP46463 for MultiChoice Universal 17 Series valves.
Where is the model number on a Delta shower?
Delta says model tags are less common on tub and shower faucets. Look for the series number on the plate behind the handle, such as 1300, 1400, T14, T17 or T17T; Delta says the series is typically enough to identify the cartridge.
Can I fix a dripping Delta shower without replacing the cartridge?
On a 1300/1400 Series shower, Delta says a new set of seats and springs (RP4993) will solve a drip from the showerhead or spout when the handle is off. Replacing the full cartridge is the other fix.

Bottom Line
Find the series on the plate behind the handle, check whether the shower has a separate temperature knob, and date the valve before or after March 2006. That gives you one of four cartridges: RP19804, RP46074, RP32104 or RP46463. For a 1300/1400 drip, try Delta’s RP4993 seats and springs first.
