How the four compare on our spec score
Five checks from the makers’ spec sheets and product pages, equal weight. Rules are in the method section.
PlumbingPicks spec score out of 10, from Delta’s, Moen’s and American Standard’s own documents, read Oct 24, 2026. Not a test of our own or a customer rating.
All four flow 1.2 gpm, carry WaterSense and NSF 61 and 372 certification, and come with a lifetime limited warranty from their makers. The two Deltas pull ahead on three details their pages state plainly: a metal drain, a cartridge tested to 500,000 uses, and a deck plate for 3-hole sinks.
The finish is the other half of a black faucet. Moen’s own care guide treats Matte Black as a powder coat, with stricter rules than chrome. The care section below has them.
Each faucet, in detail

Best for a metal drain
Delta Albion
Single handle bathroom faucet in Matte Black 15855LF-BL
1.2 gpm @ 60 psi8 in. tall1 or 3-hole 4 in.3/8 in. compressionMetal drainLifetime limited
Buy it if
You want a modern single-handle faucet with a metal drain and a cartridge rated for a long life.
Skip it if
Your sink has 8 in. widespread holes; the deck plate covers 4 in. spacing only.
Delta’s Albion 15855LF-BL is the matte black faucet I’d pick first, and I’ve used it. Delta says its ceramic disc valve cartridge is tested to last at least 500,000 uses, the same figure it gives for the Arvo; Moen and American Standard state no cartridge life.
The drain is metal. Delta says the push pop-up drain unscrews from above the deck for quick removal and cleaning of hair.
It fits 1-hole or 3-hole 4 in. installations, with an optional deck plate included and a gasket seal that helps keep water from getting under the sink.
Flow is 1.2 gpm at 60 psi, and it carries the WaterSense label, which Delta says means at least 20% less water than the industry standard. Delta says it’s certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and 372, and lists it as ADA compliant.
The supply connections are 3/8 in. compression, and the overall height is 8 in. Delta adds a long mounting stud for thicker countertops and a metal nut and bracket to keep the base from shifting.
On the finish, Delta says all its bathroom finishes are third-party certified and tested to ensure years of use without cracking, peeling, chipping, blistering or changing color. Its page says corrosion resistance is tested to at least 2 times industry standards; one listing photo says 3 times. I go by the page.
Delta’s page lists the same faucet in Champagne Bronze, Chrome, a Matte Black and Champagne Bronze mix, and SpotShield Brushed Nickel, so the matte black version can sit next to other Albion pieces.
Delta backs it with a lifetime limited warranty.
My call: before you order, hold a tape measure 8 in. up from the sink deck and check it clears a low medicine cabinet or mirror ledge.
Best for built-in supply lines
Delta Arvo
Single handle bathroom faucet in Matte Black 15840LF-BL
1.2 gpm @ 60 psi7-15/16 in. tall1 or 3-hole 4 in.1/2 in. NPSMMetal drainLifetime limited
Buy it if
You want the Albion’s specs with softer curves and supply lines that come already attached to the faucet.
Skip it if
Your angle stops sit far from the faucet; built-in lines can’t be lengthened like separate ones.
Delta’s Arvo 15840LF-BL is the matte black faucet I’d pick for a softer, curved look, and I’ve used it. On our five checks it matches the Albion point for point.
Its supply lines are part of the faucet. Delta says the corrosion-resistant nylon lines are included and integrated, for one less possible leak point, and lists the connection type as 1/2 in. NPSM.
The cartridge is a ceramic disc valve that Delta says is tested to last at least 500,000 uses.
The drain is metal: Delta says the push pop-up drain unscrews from above the deck, so you can pull hair out without going under the sink. Asked whether the drain comes with a stopper, a Delta staff answer on its product page says yes.
It fits 1-hole or 3-hole 4 in. installations, and the optional deck plate is included, with a gasket seal against drips leaking under the sink.
Flow is 1.2 gpm at 60 psi with the WaterSense label, which Delta says uses at least 20% less water than the industry standard, and Delta says it’s certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 and lists it as ADA compliant. The overall height is 7-15/16 in.
On the finish, Delta says its matte black is salt fog tested for over 12 hours, triple the required industry standard, and tested against 16 hours of exposure to 7 harsh cleaning chemicals.
Delta adds a long mounting stud for thicker countertops and a metal nut and bracket that lock the base, but its page gives no maximum deck thickness.
Delta backs it with a lifetime limited warranty and repair parts, per its page.
My call: before you buy, measure from the faucet hole to your angle stops, because the lines come attached to the faucet.
Lifetime limited warranty against leaks, drips and finish defects
Cons
Non-metal push-down drain
No cartridge life figure
Moen lists it as wholesale exclusive
1.2 gpm @ 60 psi1255 Duralast1-1/2 in. max deck1-1/8 in. hole3-hole plateLifetime limited
Buy it if
You want a classic, lever-style matte black faucet on a 1-hole or 3-hole sink with a counter up to 1-1/2 in. thick.
Skip it if
You want a metal drain; Moen’s sheet lists a non-metal push-down waste assembly.
Moen’s Halle 84970BL is the matte black faucet I’d pick if you want Moen’s 1255 Duralast cartridge, and I’ve used it. Moen describes the Halle collection as classical forms with a contemporary flair.
Its spec sheet lists metal construction, flexible supply lines with 3/8 in. compression fittings, a non-metal push-down waste assembly and an optional 3-hole deck plate.
The lever handle controls temperature over a 100° arc of travel. Flow is limited to 1.2 gpm at 60 psi.
It uses Moen’s 1255 Duralast cartridge, which Moen describes as nonmetallic, nonferrous and stainless steel material. Moen gives no cycle-test figure for it.
Moen certifies it to WaterSense, ASME A112.18.1/CSA B125.1 and NSF 61/9 and 372, and lists it as ADA for the lever handle. It also notes that products marked 1.2 gpm meet California’s water efficiency rules, and that the faucet complies with Proposition 65 and the federal Safe Drinking Water Act.
The sheet warns that there is more than one version of this model, so match the version drawing to your faucet before ordering parts later.
Moen’s 84970 series sheet covers every finish of the Halle, with the finish identified by the suffix on the model number.
Fit numbers: it installs through a 1-1/8 in. minimum hole, and the maximum deck thickness is 1-1/2 in.
Moen’s warranty is a lifetime limited warranty against leaks, drips and finish defects for the original homeowner, 10 years in multifamily use and 5 years commercial.
Moen’s site shows it as wholesale exclusive.
Where it lost points: a non-metal drain scored 8, and no stated cartridge life scored 8.
My call: Matte Black is a powder coat finish in Moen’s own care guide, so set expectations with everyone in the house: no scrubbing pads, no lime scale removers.
Best for 4 in. centers
American Standard Becklow
Single-handle bathroom faucet in Matte Black 7429101.243
1.2 gpm4 in. centers1-1/8 in. ceramic disc1-1/4 in. tailpiecePush drainLimited lifetime
Buy it if
Your sink has three holes on 4 in. centers and you want a one-handle faucet that matches them.
Skip it if
You want a metal drain or a single-hole sink with no plate; check the box contents first.
American Standard’s Becklow 7429101.243 is the matte black faucet I’d put on a 4 in. centerset sink, and I’ve used it. American Standard calls it a 1-handle monoblock bath faucet, a single lever on 4 in. centers.
Inside is a 1-1/8 in. ceramic disc valve cartridge, which American Standard says gives a lifetime of drip-free performance. The waterways are non-metal and the body and lever handle are metal.
The drain is American Standard’s Easy Install Push Drain, a non-metal drain body with a 1-1/4 in. tailpiece. Supply lines are included.
Flow is limited to 1.2 gpm, and it’s WaterSense certified. The sheet lists ASME A112.18.1, CSA B125.1, NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 Q≤1, NSF/ANSI 372 and ANSI A117.1 for accessibility.
American Standard describes the finish as tarnish, scratch and corrosion resistant and backs it with a limited lifetime warranty.
It comes in chrome (.002), brushed nickel (.295) and matte black (.243), so you can match other fixtures by the suffix.
American Standard’s suggested specification calls for a metal spout and a 1/4 turn washerless ceramic disc cartridge, and the sheet plots flow against inlet pressure from 0 to 80 psi for mixed hot and cold.
The drain has a 1-1/4 in. tailpiece, so it connects to a standard 1-1/4 in. bathroom sink trap without a reducer.
The listing photo shows it on a deck plate, but the spec sheet doesn’t list one, so it scores 0 on that check.
Where it lost points: a non-metal drain body and no stated cartridge life scored 8 each, and the unlisted deck plate scored 0.
My call: since the sheet and the listing photo don’t agree on a deck plate, open the box and check it against your sink before you remove the old faucet or plug any holes.
The four faucets side by side
From the makers’ sheets and pages. Scroll sideways on a phone.
All four are WaterSense, NSF 61 and NSF 372 certified, per their makers. My call: choose by your sink’s holes first, then by whether a metal drain matters to you.
Which one fits your sink?
Pick your hole pattern and counter thickness; the answer comes from each maker’s fit notes.
Count the holes in the sink or counter before anything else; a faucet that needs a plate on a single-hole counter is fine, but the reverse isn’t. For 8 in. widespread sinks, American Standard’s Becklow 8 in. widespread and Kohler’s Elate widespread come in matte black; they’re a different kind of faucet, so I didn’t score them here.

How to clean a matte black faucet without ruining it
From Moen’s “Faucet Finish Care and Cleaning” guide, updated Apr 11, 2025.
Finish type, per Moen
Includes
Safe
Avoid
Powder coat
Matte Black, Soft Grip Black, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Wrought Iron
Damp cloth, mild dish soap, rinse, dry with a soft cloth; 50/50 vinegar and water for water spots, briefly
Abrasives, abrasive sponges, steel wool, alcohol and other solvents, lime scale removers
Multi-step powder coat
Black Stainless, Spot Resist finishes
Damp cloth, mild dish soap
Also never ammonia, bleach or sodium hypochlorite
LifeShine PVD
Brushed Nickel, Black Opal, Brushed Gold, others
Most household cleaners; 0000 steel wool for water spots
Harsh cleansers, green fibrous pads
Electroplated
Chrome, Brushed Chrome
Dish soap; most household cleaners
Harsh cleansers, scratchy pads
The point to take away: a tip that works on chrome or PVD, like 0000 steel wool for water spots, is off limits on matte black powder coat.
Moen also says failing to follow its cleaning instructions may void its warranty. My call: keep a microfiber cloth by the sink and wipe the faucet dry after use; water spots on matte black come from drying, and dry is easier than cleaning.
Not every black finish is the same
Moen’s care guide sorts its own black finishes into different finish types.
Moen finish
Finish type, per Moen
Steel wool for spots?
Matte Black
Powder coat
No
Soft Grip Black
Powder coat
No
Black Stainless
Multi-step powder coat
No; also no ammonia or bleach
Black Opal
LifeShine PVD
0000 grade only
The same color word can mean a different coating. Moen’s Black Opal is a PVD finish that tolerates most household cleaners and 0000 steel wool for water spots, while its Matte Black is a powder coat that doesn’t. Delta and American Standard don’t publish a finish-type breakdown for their matte black, so I follow the strictest rule for all three.
My call: when you shop for a black faucet, check the maker’s finish name, not just the photo.
Matching the rest of the bathroom
Each maker marks its matte black with a code you can match.
Moen’s spec sheet says finishes are identified by suffix
American Standard
.243 (7429101.243)
.002 chrome, .295 brushed nickel
Matching within one maker is easier than across makers, because two brands’ matte blacks can differ in sheen. My call: buy the faucet, towel bar and shower trim from the same maker’s matte black line if you want them to look alike; our black shower head guide covers the shower side.
What the makers promise about the black finish
Each maker’s own words, from its page or sheet.
Delta
Third-party certified and tested to resist cracking, peeling, chipping, blistering or changing color.
Moen
Lifetime limited warranty against leaks, drips and finish defects for the original homeowner.
American Standard
Tarnish, scratch and corrosion resistant finish, with a limited lifetime warranty.
Read the fine print
Moen says not following its cleaning instructions may void the warranty.
Delta’s page says its finishes are tested for corrosion resistance to at least 2 times industry standards; a Delta listing photo says 3 times. When a photo and the maker’s page disagree, I use the page. Our will channel locks scratch chrome guide covers keeping tool marks off a finish during install.

Accessible lever operation
Yes: Delta (ADA, both), Moen (ADA for lever), AS (ANSI A117.1)
Moen’s sheet also notes that products marked 1.2 gpm meet California’s water efficiency rules. My call: on any black faucet you’re considering, look for the NSF 61 and 372 marks first; a lead-free claim on a listing without a certification behind it isn’t the same thing.
Installing a single-handle faucet
From the makers’ sheets: what’s in the box and what connects where.
1
Check the holes and deck
1 or 3 holes, and your deck thickness against Moen’s 1-1/2 in. max if you choose the Halle.
2
Shut off and disconnect
Close the angle stops and remove the old faucet and drain.
3
Set the faucet
Use the deck plate or gasket on 3-hole sinks; Delta’s gasket seal keeps water from getting under the sink.
4
Connect the supplies
Albion, Halle and Becklow: 3/8 in. compression; the Arvo’s lines are built in.
5
Install the drain
Push drains on all four; Delta’s unscrews from above.
6
Flush and check
Run water to flush debris, then check every connection for drips.
My call: wrap your wrench jaws with tape or a rag on any black finish so a slipping tool doesn’t mark it. Our how to install a faucet guide has the full steps, and bathroom sink stopper not working covers push drains that stop sealing.
Getting parts when it starts to drip
From each maker’s sheet or page.
Faucet
Cartridge
What the maker says about parts
Delta Albion and Arvo
Ceramic disc valve cartridge
Lifetime limited warranty and repair parts, per Delta’s pages
Moen Halle
Moen 1255 Duralast
Lifetime limited warranty against leaks and drips for the original homeowner
AS Becklow
1-1/8 in. ceramic disc, 1/4 turn
Limited lifetime warranty; parts list published by American Standard
Knowing the cartridge before it fails saves a trip. Moen’s 1255 is the same cartridge family our Moen 1225 vs 1255 vs 1224 guide sorts out. My call: write the model number and finish code on the inside of the vanity door when you install the faucet; it’s what every maker asks for on a warranty call.

Is matte black a powder coat?
Moen’s care guide lists its Matte Black as a powder coat finish.
Do matte black faucets chip?
Delta says its finishes are tested to resist cracking, peeling and chipping. My call: wrap wrench jaws in a cloth during install so a slip can’t mark the finish.

All four are 1.2 gpm, per their makers.
Do they come with a drain?
Yes: Delta a metal push pop-up, Moen a non-metal push-down, American Standard a non-metal push drain.

Are all black faucet finishes the same?
No; Moen sells Matte Black (powder coat), Black Stainless (multi-step powder coat) and Black Opal (PVD), each with its own care rules.
Which cartridge does the Delta Albion use?
A ceramic disc valve cartridge Delta tests to at least 500,000 uses.
How we picked these
Why trust me
I’m Isaac Daniels, a licensed journeyman plumber in Georgia (license #JP507711), and I’ve used all four picks. Specs come from Delta’s product pages, Moen’s spec sheet and American Standard’s spec sheet; cleaning rules from Moen’s care guide, all read Oct 24, 2026.
How I pick
One kind of product: single-handle matte black bathroom faucets from makers that publish spec sheets, new and in stock on Amazon the same day.
Each listing was matched to the maker’s model number.
Each card’s spec score comes from the five checks below. All four score 7.0 or higher; a detail the maker doesn’t publish scores 0. I also ran a non-brand search on Amazon and scored any faucet sold by Amazon.com that could beat a pick.
Where a listing and the maker disagree, the maker’s page is used.
The spec score, check by check
Each check scores 0 to 10 and counts one fifth. It’s our score from maker documents, not a test of our own or a customer rating.
