Choose Wagner FURNO 500 for twelve settings and cool-down, DEWALT D26950 for a variable dial, or BLACK+DECKER HG1300 for two-position household use. Confirm the material’s allowed method first; this page does not recommend thawing pipes.

This heat gun comparison focuses on documented controls, included nozzles and purchase limits for plumbing-related preparation. We compared three makers’ product pages and manuals. We have not measured heat-up time, temperature accuracy or durability.
Heat guns compared by controls
| Part | Choose for | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| DEWALT D26950 | Variable dial; two airflow settings | 120–1100°F on high airflow |
| Wagner FURNO 500 | 12 settings; LED controls; cool-down | 150–1200°F |
| BLACK+ | Two temperature positions | 750°F or 1000°F |
Our starting pick for adjustable project work is the FURNO 500 because its controls include twelve temperature settings and a cool-down mode. Choose the D26950 if you prefer a variable dial and the maker’s supplied cone and fishtail nozzles. Choose the HG1300 only if two high-heat positions cover the material manufacturer’s permitted application. These are buying judgments from documents, not speed or durability test results.
Wagner FURNO 500: stepped temperature control
Choose the FURNO 500 when you want named temperature steps and a dedicated cool-down function. Wagner’s product page lists twelve settings from 150°F to 1200°F, an LED control screen, two fan settings and an integrated stand. It includes a glass-protector nozzle and a flare nozzle. The maker lists softening adhesives and caulk among its applications.
The product page identifies SKU 503063 and UPC 024964234981. Those match the linked Amazon model and UPC. The opened FURNO 500 owner’s manual, form 0503749G, also identifies the product as Model No. 2363334. We report both identifiers so the manual’s different numbering does not look like an unexamined mismatch. The October 17, 2026 Amazon New buy-box offer was in stock and sold by Amazon.com.
Skip it if you expect a commercial-use three-year warranty. Wagner’s current warranty page gives the FURNO 500 a three-year home-use warranty, but commercial or rental use reduces coverage to thirty days. Accessories are excluded. Read the full terms for proof of purchase, misuse and authorized-service conditions.
The LED control screen identifies settings; it does not measure the temperature of your pipe, adhesive or work surface. We have not measured temperature accuracy or heat-up time. Decide whether those preset controls suit the job rather than treating the highest printed temperature as a performance ranking.

DEWALT D26950: variable dial and airflow choice
Choose D26950 if you prefer a variable temperature dial rather than twelve discrete temperature choices. DEWALT’s product page lists overload protection, a kickstand, a hanging ring and a 2.1-pound weight. The included accessories are a fishtail surface nozzle and a cone nozzle. Those are the contents of this model, not a promise that every DEWALT bundle includes the same accessories.
The D26950/D26960 manual distinguishes the models in its airflow table. For D26950 it lists 8.5 CFM at the lower airflow position with a 120–750°F range, and 16 CFM at the higher position with a 120–1100°F range. The nearby D26960 values are different. We have not silently assigned the LCD model’s specifications to the dial-controlled tool.
Amazon’s model and part-number fields match D26950, and its UPC 885911178112 matches the supplied manufacturer identity. The New buy-box offer was in stock and sold by Amazon.com on October 17, 2026. We excluded D26960K from this comparison because the available maker evidence did not verify that exact kit suffix.
Skip it if you specifically require the FURNO’s listed cool-down control or want a cordless tool. DEWALT lists a three-year limited warranty, one year of free service and a ninety-day satisfaction guarantee. Those are different policies with terms and exclusions, not a claim that the tool cannot wear out.

BLACK+DECKER HG1300: simple two-position heat
Choose HG1300 for occasional household work when 750°F and 1000°F are the two settings you actually need. The current BLACK+DECKER product page lists those positions, a built-in cooling stand and corded power. It lists the HG1300 tool and a glass-protect nozzle in the package. The model’s GTIN ends in UPC 885911221719, which matches the linked Amazon listing.
This is the least adjustable temperature control in this comparison. That does not make it a suitable low-temperature substitute for the other two models. If a material’s instructions call for controlled lower heat, two high settings are a reason to skip this model, not a reason to improvise a procedure.
The New offer was in stock and sold by Amazon.com on October 17, 2026, with HG1300 in the model and manufacturer part fields. The current maker page says two-year limited warranty. The maker’s HG1300 manual, form 90559860, uses older home-use warranty wording and says the product is not intended for commercial use. Confirm the terms supplied with the unit rather than assuming commercial coverage.
Skip it for trade work that depends on commercial support or for a project requiring fine temperature selection. We did not compare motor life, repairability or actual surface temperatures. A simple switch can be convenient, but convenience is not evidence that a material can tolerate the output.

Choose the material and access before the tool
For plumbing-related preparation, start with the material manufacturer’s allowed method. Wagner lists softening adhesives and caulk; DEWALT lists removing stickers and loosening rusted fasteners among its applications. Those tool-manual examples are not permission to heat every sealant, finish, fitting or pipe you encounter.
A removable item on an appropriate work surface is a different situation from a joint beside framing, a coated fixture or an enclosed cavity. The manuals warn about heat, ignition and concealed combustible materials. If you cannot identify the surrounding materials or the permitted process, a heat-gun purchase does not resolve that uncertainty.
For old bathroom sealant, compare the mechanical tools in our caulk removal tool guide before deciding that heat is needed. This page does not prescribe heating a fixture or give a sealant-removal temperature. Nozzle output and the material’s allowable temperature answer different questions.
This is not a frozen-pipe or pipe-repair guide
Some tool manuals list thawing pipes, bending plastic or soldering among example applications. We do not turn those examples into a recommendation to use these tools on an unidentified plumbing system. The pipe maker, installed material, surrounding construction and approved repair method govern that decision.
For a frozen line, use our frozen-pipe guide for the site’s separate guidance and professional-help limits. Do not buy one of these heat guns on the assumption that this comparison approves thawing. A heat gun is also different from installed heat tape; our heat tape guide covers that separate product category.
We provide no gas work, electrical repair, pressure-testing, pipe-bending or PEX heat-repair procedure here. If the job depends on altering a plumbing system, have a licensed plumber confirm the material-specific method. The useful purchase decision on this page is the control format, exact model and package, not permission to attempt a particular repair.
Lead paint, stands and safe storage

All three manuals include warnings about paint containing lead. The Wagner and BLACK+DECKER manuals warn that pre-1977 paint may contain lead and say lead-based paint should not be removed with a heat gun. DEWALT also prohibits using the tool to remove lead-containing paint. Resolve suspected lead paint professionally before starting; this guide does not reproduce removal or exposure-control procedures.
A stand is useful for the cooling and placement process described by the maker, but it does not make unattended operation safe. The nozzle remains a hot surface. Follow the exact manual’s cooling, unplugging, accessory and storage instructions, and keep the work area appropriate for a high-heat tool.
Before ordering, check the model number, supplied nozzles and use category on the selected offer. On arrival, keep the manual and receipt with the tool. If a seller substitutes another kit or a different model appears on the carton, resolve the mismatch before use. The three New Amazon.com offers checked here can change after the stated check date.
Frequently asked questions
Which heat gun here has twelve temperature settings?
Wagner lists twelve temperature settings from 150°F to 1200°F for FURNO 500, plus two fan settings and a cool-down mode.
Is DEWALT D26950 the LCD model?
No. D26950 uses a variable dial. Its shared manual also covers D26960, so read the model-specific airflow values carefully.
Does HG1300 have a low-temperature setting?
Its two listed positions are 750°F and 1000°F. Do not treat it as a substitute for a project that requires a lower temperature range.
Can I use these recommendations to thaw frozen pipes?
This comparison does not recommend heat-gun thawing or establish that a particular pipe system can be heated. Follow the pipe maker’s instructions and use the separate frozen-pipe guidance.
Can a heat gun remove lead paint?
The opened manuals warn against heat-gun removal of lead-containing paint. Suspected lead paint needs professional assessment, not a higher temperature setting.
How we chose
