Get the Sioux Chief 550-MP2: a nailing plate, a stated 2½ in. radius and a full spec sheet. On Viega PureFlow PEX, use the Viega 2850.1US, since Viega’s tighter bend limit is for its own approved supports. On Uponor PEX, use the Uponor F5200500 drop ear.

How the five compare on our spec score
Five checks from each maker’s own spec sheets, submittals and catalog pages, equal weight. The rules and every input are in the method section near the end.
PlumbingPicks spec score out of 10, from Sioux Chief’s, Viega’s, Uponor’s and SharkBite’s product pages, spec sheets and install guides, read Oct 22, 2026. It is not a customer rating or a lab test of our own.
A bend support is a curved channel that holds PEX in a 90-degree turn so it can’t kink or flatten. Three of these have a plate or ear you fasten to framing. Two are bare channels that ride on the tube.
The Sioux Chief scored a perfect 10 because it has a plate, a stated radius, a full spec sheet and three tube sizes. The others lost points for a missing radius, a short catalog entry, or being sold for one maker’s PEX.
Each pick, in detail
What each maker publishes, where each support fits, and where each one lost points on our checks.
Best for stub-outs and slab pours
Sioux Chief 550-MP2
Metal PEX bend support with mounting plate, 1/2 in.
Radius is tighter than Viega’s and Uponor’s 1/2 in. limits
Spec sheet doesn’t say where the radius is measured

Buy it if
You stub PEX out of a wall or floor, or up through a slab, and want a support that nails to framing or ties to rebar.
Skip it if
You run Viega or Uponor PEX and want to stay inside that maker’s bend limits. Use their own supports.
The 550-MP2 is the bend support I’d grab first, and I’ve used it. Sioux Chief’s spec sheet says it secures PEX at wall or floor penetrations and forms a tight radius without kinking.
The plate is what sets it apart. It’s 18-gauge zinc-plated steel, 3¼ by 3 in., with ⅛ in. pilot holes around the edge. You fasten it to a stud, joist, floor or brace. That’s a 10 on our mount check.
Sioux Chief left one corner of the plate open. That lets you slide the tube in after the plate is up and after the tube end is plugged. On a rough-in, that means you can plate everything first and pull PEX later.
For slab work, there’s a 0.4 in. hole for a 3/8 in. (#3) rebar ground stake. Sioux Chief says it keeps the 90-degree bend in place before the pour; add tie wire or a cable tie if you need to.
The spec sheet lists a 2½ in. bend radius for the MP2 and a 17-gauge support. The MP2 fits 3/8 or 1/2 in. PEX; the MP3 fits 3/4 in. with a 4⅛ in. radius. Stating the radius earned a 10.
Here’s the catch. Viega allows 3.1 in. on 1/2 in. PureFlow with its own approved supports, and Uponor’s guide lists 3¾ in. as its 1/2 in. minimum. The Sioux Chief radius is tighter than both. The sheet doesn’t say where on the support it’s measured.
My call: use it on PEX whose maker doesn’t set a larger minimum, and ask your PEX maker before mixing brands.
Sioux Chief’s install steps are short: fasten the plate, push the PEX through its center, bend toward the end of the support, then bend the metal tab over to trap the tube.
It’s made in the USA under US Patent 6,352,224, and Sioux Chief packs it 25 to a case.
Best for Viega PureFlow PEX
Viega 2850.1US
Plastic-coated steel drop ear bend support, part 50520
3/8 and 1/2 in.3.1 in. radius (1/2 in.)Drop earCoated steel0.198 lbPart 50520
Buy it if
You run Viega PureFlow PEX and want the bend support Viega’s manual has in mind when it allows a tighter bend.
Skip it if
You run another maker’s PEX. Viega lists this support for PureFlow only.
The 2850.1US is Viega’s drop ear bend support, and I’ve used it. Viega’s catalog lists it as plastic-coated steel, for use with Viega PureFlow PEX, in 3/8 and 1/2 in. sizes.
The drop ear is a flat plate with fastener holes, so it mounts to framing like the Sioux Chief. That scored a 10 on our mount check.
Its real value is in Viega’s PureFlow manual. Viega says PureFlow can be bent to 8 times its outside diameter by hand. With a Viega-approved bend support, it allows 5 times the OD.
For 1/2 in. PureFlow, that’s 5 in. free and 3.1 in. supported, per Viega’s table. Viega calculates those on copper tube size OD. A stated radius earned a 10.
Viega also says bends made close to fittings must be anchored with bend supports or tubing fasteners. For 1/2 in. tube, that’s any bend closer than 8 in. to a fitting.
Anything tighter than 5 times the OD should be an elbow fitting, per Viega. And Viega doesn’t allow hot bending.
Where it lost points: Viega ties it to its own PEX, an 8 on the PEX check. Viega’s product page has no downloads, only the catalog entry with material, weight and part number, a 7 on maker documents. It covers two tube sizes, an 8.
Viega lists the weight as 0.198 lb and the box quantity as 25. Amazon’s listing title calls it a ProRadiant part; Viega’s catalog lists it for PureFlow. Both point to the same 2850.1US number.
The same 5 x OD rule runs through Viega’s table: 2.5 in. on 3/8 in. tube, 4.4 in. on 3/4 in. and 5.6 in. on 1 in. This support covers the two smallest.
My call: on a PureFlow job, this is the support that keeps you inside Viega’s manual.
Best for Uponor PEX stub-outs
Uponor F5200500
Plastic drop ear bend support for 1/2 in. Uponor PEX
You run Uponor PEX and want a plastic stub-out support that mounts to a stud wall or floor with no fitting at the turn.
Skip it if
You need a support for 5/8 or 3/4 in. tube. Uponor’s metal A5110 line covers more sizes.
The F5200500 is Uponor’s plastic drop ear bend support, and I’ve used it. Uponor says it gives a rigid 90-degree bend and a connection-free stub-out from a stud wall or floor, for 1/2 in. Uponor PEX.
Connection-free is the point. The tube turns up out of the wall or floor in one piece, with no elbow in the bay. That’s two fewer joints behind the drywall than an elbow, our count.
Uponor lists the material as glass-reinforced nylon, 30% glass, and the weight as 0.06 lb. The drop ear mounts it to framing, a 10 on our mount check.
Uponor posts a submittal for it with a lettered dimension drawing. That earned a 10 on maker documents, the same as Sioux Chief’s spec sheet.
Where it lost points: the product page doesn’t state the radius the support holds, a 6. Uponor sells it for Uponor PEX, an 8. The line has two sizes, this one and the 3/8 in. F5200375, an 8.
Uponor’s installation guide fills in the bend rules. It says the minimum bend radius of Uponor PEX is six times its outside diameter. For 1/2 in. tube, with a 0.625 in. OD, that’s 3¾ in.
The same guide says bend supports are made for 3/8, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 in. pipe and can be used for 45-degree or 90-degree bends.
Uponor’s guide also covers a kinked tube. With the pipe not under pressure, straighten it and heat it with an electric heat gun, about 450 W, to roughly 265°F, until it returns to shape. No open flame, and the surface must not go past 338°F.
My call: buy the drop ears for stub-outs and the metal A5110 channels for turns in open runs.
You run Uponor PEX through joists or along a wall and want a metal channel to hold the turns, with straps doing the fastening.
Skip it if
You need the support itself to fasten to a stud or floor. Get the F5200500 drop ear.
The A5110500 is Uponor’s metal bend support for 1/2 in. tube, and I’ve used it. Uponor describes the line as zinc-plated metal supports that give a rigid 90-degree bend for 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 and 3/4 in. Uponor PEX.
That’s four sizes in one line: A5110375, A5110500, A5110625 and A5110750. It’s the widest line here, a 10 on our sizes check.
Uponor posts a submittal and a lettered dimension drawing for each. That earned a 10 on maker documents. The page lists the weight as 0.1 lb.
The drawing gives six dimensions, A through F, from 53/64 in. to 3-37/64 in. The page doesn’t say what each letter measures, so read the submittal before you plan a tight bay.
It’s a bare channel. There’s no plate or ear, so the support rides on the tube and you fasten the PEX on each side with your own straps or clips, my call. That’s a 7 on our mount check.
Like the drop ear, the product page doesn’t state the radius it holds, a 6. Uponor sells it for Uponor PEX, an 8.
Uponor’s installation guide sets the rule to work to: don’t bend Uponor PEX tighter than six times the outside diameter. For 1/2 in., that’s 3¾ in. For 3/4 in., 5¼ in.
The guide adds that bend supports can make 45-degree bends as well as 90s. My call: a metal channel like this one is handy where the tube turns down through a top plate or out of a joist bay.
Amazon’s listing title names fire safety, plumbing, and radiant heating and cooling. If you also pipe radiant floors, one support covers both jobs.
My call: buy these in a box and keep them on the truck for the turns that don’t need a stub-out.
1/2 in.Bare channelStainless steelASTM F877CSA B137.53/4 in. is 23054
Buy it if
You run SharkBite PEX, or you want a stainless channel with no PEX brand limit stated.
Skip it if
You need the support to fasten to framing. Get a plate or drop ear support.
The 23053 is SharkBite’s 1/2 in. stainless steel bend support, and I’ve used it. SharkBite says its bend supports allow 90-degree bends in PEX that can do away with extra fittings, cutting the number of possible leak points.
SharkBite also says bend supports help reduce noise and vibration.
SharkBite’s page doesn’t limit it to one brand of PEX, a 10 on our check. It lists ASTM F877-2011a and CSA B137.5-2009 under approvals and listings. Those are product page facts with material and listings, an 8 on maker documents.
Where it lost points: it’s a bare channel with no plate or ear, a 7 on mount. The page doesn’t state its radius, a 6. Stainless comes in two sizes, 23053 for 1/2 in. and 23054 for 3/4 in., an 8. SharkBite also makes polymer ones, 23050 and 23051.
SharkBite’s PEX install guide has the rules to bend by. Its minimum bend radius for 1/2 in. PEX pipe is 5 in., with a 0.625 in. OD. For 3/4 in., 7 in.
The same guide says to bend the pipe 2 in. away from a fitting, so the fitting isn’t used as an anchor point. Don’t exceed the pipe’s minimum bend radius.
SharkBite is firm on kinks: don’t heat kinked pipe to reform it. Cut the damaged section out and replace it.
The guide lists SharkBite PEX as certified to ASTM F876 and F877 and CSA B137.5, rated 160 psi at 73.4°F. That’s the tube’s rating, not the support’s, but it tells you which pipe SharkBite had in mind.
One warning about the Amazon listing. Its bullets talk about brass, push-to-connect seals and 200 psi. Those describe SharkBite’s push fittings, not this support. Go by SharkBite’s own bend support page.
The five side by side
Mount, material, radius and the PEX each maker sells it for, from their own pages and guides.
From Sioux Chief’s 550-MP spec sheet, Viega’s catalog and PureFlow manual, Uponor’s product pages and installation guide, and SharkBite’s bend support page, read Oct 22, 2026.
How tight each PEX maker lets you bend
Every PEX maker sets a minimum bend radius. A support only helps if it keeps the tube at or above that number.
Bend radius for 1/2 in. tube from each maker’s install guide or spec sheet, read Oct 22, 2026. Viega’s against-the-coil figure is our math: 24 x 0.625 in. OD.

Viega PureFlow installation manual, Uponor PEX Piping Systems Installation Guide (Table 3) and SharkBite PEX pipe install guide, read Oct 22, 2026. Viega calculates on copper tube size OD.
Two things stand out. Viega is the only maker here that sets a separate, tighter limit when you use its own bend supports. And the Sioux Chief 550-MP2’s 2½ in. radius is tighter than any 1/2 in. PEX limit in the table.
Viega also warns against bending against the coil’s natural curve. That needs 24 times the OD, or 15 in. on 1/2 in. tube by our math. My call: pull the tube off the coil so the bend follows the curve it already has.

If you’re not sure which PEX is in the wall, read the print line on the tube. Our PEX-A vs PEX-B guide explains the types.
My call: keep supports and tube from the same maker on new work. It’s the easiest way to answer the inspector who asks whose rules you followed.
Bend support or a 90-degree elbow?
Both turn PEX 90 degrees. The makers point to bend supports for smooth turns and elbows for tight ones.

Bends tighter than 5 x OD, per Viega
Sioux Chief puts it plainly: bend supports are used instead of elbow fittings where a smooth radius bend is preferred, which improves flow and cuts the number of mechanical connections.
My call: use a support wherever there’s room for your PEX maker’s radius, and an elbow where there isn’t.
How to bend PEX 90 degrees with a support

Sioux Chief
Bare channels like the Uponor A5110500 and SharkBite 23053 skip step 2. The channel sits on the bend, and you strap the tube on each side, my call. Then pressure test the run before you close the wall; our hydrostatic test pump guide covers the pump and the code test.
How close to a fitting can you bend PEX?
A bend right next to a fitting pulls on the joint. Viega and SharkBite both set a distance.

The two rules ask different things. Viega lets you bend closer than its distance, but says the bend must be held with a bend support or tubing fastener. SharkBite says to keep the bend 2 in. off the fitting, so the fitting doesn’t become the anchor point.
My call: on a stub-out, put the support’s plate where it carries the bend, and the stop valve or adapter past the end of the support. For the copper side, see our copper to PEX adapter guide.
What each maker says to do with a kinked tube
This is where the makers disagree most. Follow the guide for the tube in your hand.
Maker
What its guide says
Heat allowed?
Uponor
Straighten, then heat with an electric heat gun (about 450 W) to about 265°F until it returns to shape; cut out sliced or punctured pipe
Yes, electric heat gun only
Viega
Viega doesn’t allow hot bending; use an elbow for bends tighter than 5 x OD
No
SharkBite
Don’t heat kinked pipe to reform it; cut out and replace the damaged section
No
Uponor also says the surface must never go above 338°F and never to use an open flame. My call: a support on every tight turn beats any of these fixes.
The types of PEX bend supports
They differ in what holds them in place and what they’re made of.
My call: metal takes a knock during rough-in better, and plastic can’t rust. Neither choice changes your PEX maker’s minimum radius.

Do you want a stainless channel with no PEX brand limit?
The Sioux Chief 550-MP2, on our spec score of 10.0. It has a mounting plate, a stated 2½ in. radius and a full spec sheet. On Viega or Uponor PEX, use that maker’s own support.
What does a PEX bend support do?
It holds PEX in a smooth 90-degree turn so it can’t kink or flatten. Sioux Chief says it keeps the tube’s inside diameter and lets you skip an elbow fitting.
Do I need a bend support for PEX?
For tight turns, yes. Viega allows 8 times the OD by hand and 5 times with its own approved support. Viega also says bends close to fittings must be anchored with a bend support or fastener.
How do you bend PEX 90 degrees?
Mount the support, push the tube through, and bend toward the end of the support, following the coil’s curve. Then lock the tab or strap the tube on each side.
What is the minimum bend radius for 1/2 in. PEX?
It depends on the maker: 5 in. free or 3.1 in. with a Viega support for Viega PureFlow, 3¾ in. for Uponor and 5 in. for SharkBite, per their guides.
Can I use any brand of bend support on my PEX?
Viega and Uponor sell theirs for their own PEX. Sioux Chief and SharkBite don’t state a brand limit. Check your PEX maker’s minimum radius before mixing brands.
Are PEX-A bend supports different?
A support holds the outside of the tube, so what matters is the tube size and your PEX maker’s minimum radius. Uponor sells its supports for Uponor PEX.
Metal or plastic bend support?
Both hold the turn. My call: metal takes a knock better. Uponor’s plastic drop ear is 30% glass-reinforced nylon, and Viega coats its steel support in plastic.
What is a drop ear bend support?
A bend support with a flat ear or plate you fasten to framing, so the tube turns out of the wall or floor in one piece. The Viega 2850.1US and Uponor F5200500 are drop ear supports.
Is a bend support better than a PEX 90 elbow?
Where there’s room for the radius, a support skips two joints and keeps the full inside diameter. Viega says to use an elbow for bends tighter than 5 times the OD.
How far from a fitting can I bend PEX?
SharkBite says at least 2 in. away. Viega says bends closer than 8 in. on 1/2 in. tube must be anchored with a support or fastener.
Can I fix a kinked PEX pipe?
Only Uponor allows it, with an electric heat gun to about 265°F. Viega doesn’t allow hot bending, and SharkBite says to cut the kink out and replace it.
How we picked these
Why trust me
I’m Isaac Daniels, a licensed journeyman plumber in Georgia (license #JP507711), and I’ve used all five picks. Every spec here comes from Sioux Chief’s, Viega’s, Uponor’s and SharkBite’s own pages, spec sheets and install guides, read Oct 22, 2026. Where I add advice of my own, it’s labeled as my call.
How I pick
Only 1/2 in. PEX 90-degree bend supports from well-documented brands, new and in stock on Amazon, checked through Amazon’s product data the same day.
