For a fix with no torch, get the SharkBite Max UR008A: it pushes onto copper and any standard PEX. For crimped PEX, sweat on SharkBite’s UC600LF. For Uponor PEX-A, use Uponor’s LF4515050.

How the three compare on our spec score
Five checks from each maker’s own pages, sheets and warranty, equal weight. The rules and every input are in the method section near the end.
PlumbingPicks spec score out of 10, from SharkBite’s and Uponor’s product pages, spec sheets and warranties, read Oct 22, 2026. It is not a customer rating or a lab test of our own.
All three join 1/2 in. copper to 1/2 in. PEX. What changes is how each end is made: pushed, crimped, expanded or soldered.
The SharkBite Max scored highest because it takes any standard PEX, needs no torch, and holds the highest rating when hot. The two sweat adapters tie: SharkBite’s fits more PEX, and Uponor’s publishes flow data.
Each pick, in detail

You’re cutting into old copper to tie in PEX, the line may still drip, or you’d rather not use a torch.
Skip it if
You want the joint buried in a slab. SharkBite says no joints within a slab.
The SharkBite Max UR008A is the adapter I’d grab first, and I’ve used it. SharkBite says it connects PEX, copper, CPVC, PE-RT or HDPE SDR-9 pipe in any combination, so the same coupling turns a copper stub into a PEX run.
There’s no torch, crimp tool or glue. SharkBite says it can go on wet lines and be pressure tested right away, which matters when you can’t get a line fully dry. That earned a 10 on the copper-side joint.
It takes any PEX made to ASTM F876, and SharkBite says no tube liner is needed for PEX. That’s a 10 on PEX it accepts.
SharkBite rates it to 400 psi at 200°F on copper, the highest rating here, a 10. On PEX or CPVC, SharkBite says to use the pipe’s own rating.
The warranty is 25 years with copper, PEX or CPVC under RWC’s warranty, without needing SharkBite’s own pipe. That’s a 10.
Where it lost points: SharkBite doesn’t publish a flow coefficient or equivalent length for the coupling, so flow data scored a 5.
Two rules from SharkBite’s instructions are easy to miss. Mark the 1 in. insertion depth and push to the tube stop. And if you solder nearby, make the solder joints first; SharkBite says flame shouldn’t be used close to a Max fitting.
It’s listed to ASSE 1061, NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372, and SharkBite approves it behind walls without access panels. It was sold by Amazon.com, single, on Oct 22, 2026.
It also comes off. SharkBite says it’s removable with its disconnect clip, tongs or pro disconnect tool, and it can be rotated after it’s installed. The same coupling comes in 3/4 in. (UR016A) and 1 in. (UR020A).
My call: buy a depth and deburr gauge with it if you don’t have one; a short push is the usual leak.

You can’t use a torch where the copper is. Use the SharkBite Max.
SharkBite’s UC600LF is the sweat adapter for crimp and clamp PEX, and I’ve used it. SharkBite puts it plainly: transition from PEX to copper, sweat a female adapter onto copper pipe.
The PEX end is a barb that takes copper crimp rings or stainless steel clamp rings. SharkBite’s spec sheet says its crimp fittings are designed for use with all PEX tubing, so PEX it accepts scored a 10.
The copper end is a female cup that slides over 1/2 in. copper pipe and gets soldered. That needs a torch, so the copper-side joint scored a 7.
Ratings come from SharkBite’s crimp spec sheet: 160 psi at 73.4°F, 100 psi at 180°F, 80 psi at 200°F. That’s an 8 on rating when hot, lower than the push coupling, as with every crimp adapter rated this way.
Warranty is the other split. RWC gives 25 years with SharkBite PEX and SharkBite rings, but 5 years with other makers’ PEX. That’s an 8 on our check.
SharkBite doesn’t publish flow data for the adapter, a 5. The body is C69300 lead-free DZR silicon brass, listed to ASTM F1807 and F877 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372.
The Amazon listing is a 10-pack sold by Amazon.com, with 7 left on Oct 22, 2026. The fitting in the photo is stamped Cash Acme, which RWC sells alongside SharkBite. Ignore the listing’s line about threaded connections; this one is sweat.
SharkBite certifies it for drinking water and hydronic heating, and the line comes in 3/4 in. (UC606LF) and 1 in. (UC605LF). The spec sheet says to use it with SharkBite crimp or clamp rings, sold separately.
My call: solder the cup onto the copper first, let it cool, then crimp the PEX. Keep the torch off the PEX.

Your PEX is crimped or you don’t own an expansion tool. Use one of the SharkBites.
Uponor’s LF4515050 is the sweat adapter for Uponor’s PEX-A system, and I’ve used it. Uponor says its sweat adapters transition Uponor PEX tubing to copper pipe for potable water, residential fire safety and radiant systems.
The PEX end is a ProPEX expansion barb. You expand the pipe and a ProPEX ring, slide it on, and it shrinks back. Uponor says that’s why the joint can’t be dry fit.
The listing says to use it with Uponor AquaPEX or Wirsbo hePEX only, so PEX it accepts scored a 5. That’s the trade for a system built around one maker’s pipe.
The copper end gets soldered, a 7 on the copper-side joint. Uponor’s rule: do not solder within 18 in. of ProPEX fittings.
Uponor rates it 160 psi at 73°F, 100 psi at 180°F and 80 psi at 200°F, an 8 on rating when hot. For domestic hot water and recirculation, Uponor says not to exceed 140°F at 80 psi, per ASTM F2023.
It’s the only pick with flow data: Cv 5.7 and 2 ft of equivalent length, a 10. Uponor also says the adapters are safe for direct burial in soil.
The warranty is 25 years, transferable, on Uponor PEX pipe with ProPEX fittings, so it scored an 8 on our check.
The listing is a bag of 25 sold by eFaucets, with 3 left on Oct 22, 2026. It’s the most adapters per listing here.
Uponor lists it under the UPC, IPC, IRC and IMC codes, with IAPMO-ES and ICC-ES listings. The same adapter family runs from 3/8 x 1/2 in. up to 3 x 3 in., and ProPEX rings are sold separately.
My call: sweat the copper end first, with the PEX not yet attached, and keep 18 in. between your flame and any ProPEX joint already made.

Look at an existing PEX joint to tell the system apart. Copper crimp rings are a plain copper band; cinch clamps are stainless with a tab; ProPEX rings are a thicker PEX ring pushed onto the fitting. The pipe is usually printed with its maker and standard, too.
My call: if the house has Uponor pipe and you own the expansion tool, stay in that system. If not, the push coupling is the one that works with whatever you find.

For the solder joint itself, follow the Copper Development Association’s steps: cut square, ream, clean with sand cloth, flux right away, heat and feed solder. Our emery cloth guide and solder and flux guide cover the supplies.
My call: wrap a wet rag around the copper between the joint and the PEX side when space is tight. It’s cheap insurance against heat creeping along the pipe.

The rings are sold separately for both sweat adapters. Uponor says to use the appropriate ProPEX rings, and SharkBite says to use its crimp or clamp rings for its warranty.
How to connect copper to PEX with an adapter
The push coupling has the fewest steps. These come from SharkBite’s install instructions and the CDA handbook.
Step
Push coupling (SharkBite Max)
Sweat adapter (SharkBite crimp or Uponor)
1. Shut off and drain
Wet lines are OK, per SharkBite
Drain fully; water stops solder from flowing (my call)
2. Cut
Cut square, remove rough edges and debris
Cut square, ream to full inside diameter
3. Prepare
Mark the 1 in. insertion depth on each pipe
Clean the copper and the cup with sand cloth, then flux
4. Join copper
Push the copper to the tube stop
Sweat the adapter onto the copper; let it cool
5. Join PEX
Push the PEX to the tube stop
Crimp, clamp or expand the PEX onto the barb
6. Check
Depth mark within 0.005 in. of the release collar
Check rings with a go/no-go gauge if crimped (my call)
7. Test
Pressure test right away, per SharkBite
Turn on and look for drips
SharkBite also says to leave at least 1 in. between Max fittings for removal. Our SharkBite removal guide covers taking one off.

Equivalent length means the adapter costs about as much pressure as 2 ft of straight pipe, per Uponor. On a 40 ft run to a fixture, that’s 5% more length (our math).
My call: one adapter won’t change what you feel at the tap. A long run of undersized pipe will, so keep the PEX the same nominal size as the copper you’re leaving. See PEX vs copper vs CPVC for the pipe choice itself.
Keep the copper bonded when you add PEX
Copper water pipe often carries the house’s electrical bonding. A PEX section breaks that path.

Questions people ask
What is the best copper to PEX adapter?
The SharkBite Max UR008A, on our spec score of 9.0. It pushes onto copper and any PEX made to ASTM F876, needs no torch, and SharkBite rates it to 400 psi at 200°F on copper.
Can you connect copper to PEX?
Yes, with a transition fitting. SharkBite’s Max coupling joins copper and PEX in any combination, and SharkBite and Uponor both sell sweat adapters that solder to copper on one end and take PEX on the other.
How do you connect copper to PEX using an adapter?
With a push coupling, cut both pipes square, mark the insertion depth and push each into the fitting. With a sweat adapter, solder the adapter to the copper first, let it cool, then crimp, clamp or expand the PEX onto the barb.
What are the different types of copper to PEX adapters?
Push-to-connect on both ends, crimp or clamp barb with a female or male sweat end, and expansion barb with a sweat end. Threaded adapters also exist for NPT fittings.
What are copper to PEX adapters made of?
All three picks are lead-free brass. SharkBite uses DZR brass, C69300 silicon brass for its crimp line, and Uponor uses LF brass, all listed to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372.
What are the advantages of a push copper to PEX adapter?
No torch, no crimp tool and no glue. SharkBite says the Max can go on wet lines and be pressure tested right away, and it’s approved behind walls with no access panel.
Do you lose water pressure going from copper to PEX?
Very little from the adapter. Uponor publishes a 2 ft equivalent length for its 1/2 in. sweat adapter. My call: keep the PEX the same nominal size as the copper.
Can you solder near PEX?
Keep the flame away. Uponor says not to solder within 18 in. of ProPEX fittings, and SharkBite says to make all solder joints before the push connections.
Do I need a jumper wire when going from copper to PEX?
SharkBite says to install a copper jumper cable when connecting a SharkBite Max to copper piping, to ensure proper grounding. My call: have an electrician check if you’re unsure.
Can a SharkBite go behind a wall?
The Max can. SharkBite approves Max push couplings behind the wall with no access panels, and underground when wrapped in its silicone tape. It says no joints within a slab.
Do Uponor adapters work with other PEX?
The listing says to use the LF4515050 with Uponor AquaPEX or Wirsbo hePEX pipe only, and Uponor’s 25-year warranty covers its pipe with ProPEX fittings.
Is PEX-A better than PEX-B for this?
Either works with the right adapter. SharkBite says PEX letter designations are not related to any rating system; the joining method is what decides the adapter. See our PEX-A vs PEX-B guide.
How we picked these
Why trust me
I’m Isaac Daniels, a licensed journeyman plumber in Georgia (license #JP507711), and I’ve used all three picks. Every spec here comes from SharkBite’s and Uponor’s own pages, spec sheets, instructions and warranties, read Oct 22, 2026. Where I add advice of my own, it’s labeled as my call.
How I pick
Only 1/2 in. copper to PEX adapters from well-documented brands, new and in stock on Amazon, checked through Amazon’s product data the same day.
Facts from each maker’s page, sheet or warranty first. Where only the brand-written listing says something, the page says so.
Each card’s spec score comes from the five checks below. All three score 7.0 or higher.
