Quick answer
Match your faucet in the finder below. Many 2-handle faucets take 994053-0070A; Colony, Monterrey, Amarilis and Hampton have their own.

Which American Standard cartridge do you need?
Pick your faucet family. The finder names the part number American Standard or its genuine listing ties to it.
American Standard part numbers end in a finish or package code, like -0070A. Some parts also show an AP version on the maker’s store, listed as a separate variant with its own UPC. Match the full number, suffix included.
Find your faucet model before you shop
A cartridge number is only as good as the faucet ID behind it.
- 1Look under the sink
Many faucets carry a sticker or tag on a supply line or the underside of the deck.
- 2Check your paperwork
The install guide or receipt names the collection and the full model number.
- 3Read the handle and spout
Collection names like Colony or Monterrey often match a style you can compare online.
- 4Pull the old cartridge
Its stamped number, length and spline count settle most questions.
- 5Ask the maker
Send American Standard support photos of the faucet and the old part.
Write the full model with every letter and dot. Two faucets with the same first four digits can take different cartridges, so a shortened number on an old receipt isn’t proof.
If you can only identify the faucet as 2-handle, take the old cartridge to compare against 994053-0070A’s listing photos before you order.
Six genuine cartridges, by number
Each one is sold by Amazon.com as American Standard’s own part, with the UPC matching the maker’s record. I’ve used these parts.

994053-0070A: the common 2-handle cartridge
American Standard describes 994053-0070A as a ceramic disc valve cartridge for many of its kitchen and bath 2-handle faucets, in durable brass, reversible for the hot or cold side. That reversibility is why one part number covers both handles.
Reversible doesn’t mean the handle turns the same way on both sides after a swap. If a new handle turns backward from the other, check your faucet’s instructions for the stop or adapter position before you force it. Buy two if you’re doing both sides; check the listing’s quantity first.

A954120-0070A: Colony dual control
The Colony cartridge is a ceramic disc part American Standard lists for many of its 2-handle kitchen faucets; the Amazon listing adds lavatory faucets and says cartridge only. The maker’s store shows two versions: A954120-0070AP with UPC 012611577857 and A954120-0070A with UPC 012611202858. The linked listing carries 012611202858, the plain -0070A part.
Cartridge only means no handle adapter, nut or washer. Look at what came out of your faucet before you order, and replace worn pieces at the same time if they’re damaged.
951764-0070A: Monterrey
American Standard lists 951764-0070A for Monterrey 2-handle faucets, including wall-mount service sink faucets. It’s brass and plastic with a ceramic disc, and the stem turns clockwise to close and counterclockwise to open on both hot and cold sides.
The Amazon listing says it’s used with Monterrey widespread and centerset lavatory faucets and tells you to check the faucet’s installation guide for the right part. That’s good advice for every number on this page.

028610-0070A: Amarilis and Hampton
This one fits Amarilis and Hampton kitchen and bath 2-handle faucets. American Standard calls it a hot or cold ceramic check cartridge in brass, with an adapter and screw included and a grid-style design.
Because the adapter comes in the package, it’s a more complete repair than a bare cartridge. Keep the old adapter until the new handle seats firmly, in case the fit differs.

072992-0170A: Aquaseal left handle
Aquaseal is an American Standard valve design. This part is the left-handle (usually hot) cartridge, sold less locknut, per the listing and the maker’s title. The right-handle version is 072991-0170A, a separate number on American Standard’s store.
Reuse your locknut if it’s in good shape. The listing’s own advice is to check your repair part information for compatibility, since Aquaseal valves appear in more than one faucet line.

M951472-0070A: 35 mm interchange
This is a 35 mm single-control cartridge, the kind that handles volume and temperature with one lever. The genuine listing names Serin models 2064131, 2064101 and 2064152.
Single-control cartridges come in several sizes, so measure or match the number before you buy. A 35 mm cartridge won’t fit a body made for a 25 mm one.

Tools for an American Standard cartridge swap
| Tool | Used for |
|---|---|
| Small flat and Phillips screwdrivers | Handle caps and handle screws |
| Allen keys | Set screws on many lever handles |
| Adjustable wrench or deep socket | The cartridge hex or retaining nut |
| Handle puller | A handle stuck on the splines |
| Silicone faucet grease | O-rings on the new cartridge, if the instructions call for it |
| Rag and a drain plug | Catching screws and water |
Hold the faucet body or spout while you turn the cartridge nut. Twisting the whole faucet on the deck can loosen it or crack a supply connection under the sink.
Bring the old cartridge with you if you shop in person. Side by side, the spline count and length tell you more than any photo.
Two-handle stems vs single-control cartridges
| Question | 2-handle stem cartridge | Single-control cartridge |
|---|---|---|
| What it controls | Flow on one side, hot or cold | Volume and temperature together |
| How many per faucet | Two, one per handle | One |
| Parts here | 994053, A954120, 951764, 028610, 072992 | M951472 (35 mm) |
| Key fit check | Spline count, length, which side | Diameter in mm and the faucet model |
| Common symptom | Drip from the spout on one side | Drip, stiff lever, or mixed water temperature |
Which side drips tells you which stem failed. Shut off one supply stop at a time: if the drip stops with the hot stop closed, the hot cartridge is the one leaking.
Signs your cartridge is the problem
The most common sign. A worn ceramic disc or seal lets water past.
Mineral build-up inside the cartridge makes it hard to turn.
Often an O-ring or seal on the cartridge body; replacing the cartridge fixes it.
Usually a supply line or connection, not the cartridge. See kitchen sink leaking underneath.
Swapping the cartridge, step by step
The general order. Your faucet’s own guide has the exact parts and torque.
- 1Shut off both supply stops
Open the faucet to drain pressure and confirm the water is off.
- 2Plug the drain
Small screws and clips go down a drain fast.
- 3Remove the handle
Pry off the cap, back out the screw and lift the handle. A handle puller frees a stuck one.
- 4Unthread the cartridge or nut
Use a deep socket or wrench on the hex; hold the faucet body so it doesn’t twist.
- 5Match the old part
Compare the number, length and splines with the new cartridge.
- 6Install and orient
Seat it fully, snug the nut, and set the stop so the handle closes in the right direction.
- 7Turn water on slowly
Check for drips at the spout and the handle base, then test hot and cold.
For a full walk-through with tools, see how to replace a faucet cartridge. If the faucet body is corroded or the stops won’t close, call a plumber before you open it.
Mistakes that lead to the wrong part
| Mistake | Why it goes wrong | Do this instead |
|---|---|---|
| Shopping by the first four digits | Different faucets can share them | Use the full model with letters and dots |
| Buying a look-alike “replacement for” | Fit and seals can differ from the genuine part | Match the American Standard number and UPC |
| Assuming hot and cold differ | 994053 and 028610 work on either side | Check whether your part is reversible |
| Ordering one when you need two | 2-handle faucets have two cartridges | Check the listing quantity |
| Forgetting the locknut or adapter | Some parts ship without them | Read what’s in the package |
Look-alikes are common in this category. Amazon search results for American Standard numbers mix genuine parts with generic listings titled “replacement for.” Every part on this page is the genuine American Standard listing, checked by brand, part number and UPC.
When a new faucet makes more sense
| Situation | Lean toward |
|---|---|
| One side drips, faucet otherwise sound | New cartridge |
| Both cartridges worn and the finish is fine | Two new cartridges |
| Corroded body or cracked spout | New faucet |
| Part no longer sold and no genuine match | New faucet |
| You want a different style or a pull-down | New faucet |
