Church is a seat brand made by Bemis Manufacturing in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, and Bemis publishes the Church spec sheets. The line splits in two: enameled wood seats with covers for homes, and open-front plastic seats without covers for commercial restrooms. The 585EC and 295SSCT sheets carry a “Seat & Cover Made in the USA” mark.
Church 585EC: elongated enameled wood, lifts off to clean
Choose the 585EC for an elongated bowl at home. The Church spec sheet (links.imagerelay.com) lists an elongated enameled wood seat, a closed front with cover, two ring bumpers, plastic hinges, non-corroding bolts and wing nuts, and Easy·Clean hinges that let the seat come off for cleaning.
The drawing shows a 17-7/16-inch seat length, an 18-7/8-inch length measured from the hinge bolts, a 14-1/8-inch width, an 8-1/8 by 11-13/16-inch opening and 5-1/2-inch hinge spacing. Bemis’s warranty limits enameled wood seats to residential use. On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com was in stock with model 585EC 000, white (Amazon lists it as 7FA585EC 000).

Church 540EC: the round version
Choose the 540EC for a round bowl at home. The Church spec sheet (links.imagerelay.com) lists the same enameled wood, closed front with cover, two ring bumpers, plastic hinges, non-corroding bolts and wing nuts, and Easy·Clean removable hinges as the 585EC, in a round shape.
The drawing shows a 15-7/16-inch seat length, a 16-7/8-inch length from the hinge bolts, a 14-3/8-inch width, an 8-3/8 by 10-1/4-inch opening and 5-1/2-inch hinge spacing. The Bemis product page lists white, biscuit and bone. On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com was in stock with model 540EC 000, white (Amazon lists it as 7FA540EC 000).

Church 295SSCT: commercial seat that stays up
Choose the 295SSCT for a busy commercial restroom. The Church spec sheet (links.imagerelay.com) lists an elongated open-front plastic seat without a cover, four ring bumpers, self-sustaining check hinges that keep the seat upright for standing use or cleaning, non-corroding 300 series stainless steel posts and pintles, and the Stay·Tite Commercial Fastening System, which Bemis says never loosens. It lists compliance with IAPMO/ANSI Z124.5 heavy-duty commercial performance standards.
The drawing shows an 18-9/16-inch length from the hinge bolts, a 14-1/2-inch width, a 7-15/16-inch opening width, a 3-1/2-inch front gap and 5-1/2-inch hinge spacing. One caution: Amazon’s title calls this seat “slow close,” but the Church sheet describes self-sustaining hinges that hold the seat up, not a slow-close hinge. Church 255SSC: lighter commercial option
Choose the 255SSC for a commercial open-front seat with standard hardware. The Church spec sheet (links.imagerelay.com) lists an elongated open-front plastic seat without a cover, two ring bumpers, self-sustaining check hinges with 300 series stainless steel posts and pintles, and 300 series stainless steel washers and nuts instead of the Stay·Tite system.
The drawing shows an 18-1/16-inch length from the hinge bolts, a 14-7/16-inch width, a 3-9/16-inch front gap and 5-1/2-inch hinge spacing. As with the 295SSCT, Amazon’s title says “slow close,” while the Church sheet describes self-sustaining hinges. On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Build.com was in stock with model 255SSC 000, white.

Installing a Church Easy·Clean seat
The Easy·Clean installation sheet (links.imagerelay.com) that Bemis links from the 585EC page shows six steps and lists one tool, a screwdriver. The kit includes two bolts and two wing nuts.
- Insert a bolt through each hinge hole in the bowl.
- Turn the wing nut onto the bolt from below, all the way up.
- Tighten the bolt from above with the screwdriver.
- Unlock the hinge.
- Snap the hinges onto the bolts.
- Lock the hinge.
The spec sheets say Easy·Clean seats remove for cleaning. This installation sheet does not show the removal steps, so keep the instructions that come in the box. The sheet itself carries Bemis, Mayfair and Church logos.
Home seat or commercial seat?
Open front. The commercial seats have a gap at the front and no cover. That shape is common in public restrooms; at home most people want a closed front with a lid.
Self-sustaining hinge. On the 295SSCT and 255SSC, the hinge holds the seat up on its own when raised, which helps with standing use and cleaning. The 295CT and 255 versions use non-self-sustaining check hinges instead, and the 295CT also comes in black (047) on the Bemis product page.
Fastening. The 295SSCT’s Stay·Tite system is the main step up over the 255SSC; Bemis says it reduces installation time and never loosens.
Warranty. Bemis’s limited warranty (links.imagerelay.com) guarantees its seats against defects for a minimum of one year from purchase, and states that plastic seats suit commercial and residential use, while enameled wood seats are for residential use only.
Check these before you order
- Bowl shape. Elongated or round; measure from the bolt holes to the front rim.
- Hinge spacing. All four drawings show 5-1/2 inches.
- Home or commercial. Wood with cover for home; open-front plastic for commercial.
- Slow close. None of these Church sheets lists a slow-close hinge, despite some Amazon titles.
- Removal. The wood seats list Easy·Clean lift-off hinges.
- Color. 000 is white on all four listings.
