For a slow-closing wood seat, the Kohler Stonewood Quiet-Close K-20466 is the easy pick; the Kohler Broadwood K-25881 adds a single-hinge cover that is simpler to clean, and the Kohler Stonewood K-4647 comes in more colors. All three are elongated with 5-1/2-inch mounting holes.

Wood toilet seats compared
| Seat | Hinge and close | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Kohler Stonewood Quiet-Close K-20466 | Quiet-Close lid and seat, plastic hinges | You want a slow-close wood seat |
| Kohler Broadwood Quiet-Close K-25881 | Quiet-Close, single-hinge cover | You want fewer gaps to clean around the hinge |
| Kohler Stonewood K-4647 | Standard plastic hinges | A plain wood seat, with more color choices |
Most “wood” toilet seats are compression-molded wood: wood fiber pressed with resin and finished with enamel. They feel heavier and more solid than thin plastic seats, which is why some people prefer them. Kohler says its molded wood gives a look and feel other seat materials cannot match.

Will it fit your toilet?
Seat fit comes down to bowl shape and bolt spacing. All three seats here are elongated with 5-1/2-inch mounting holes, the standard spacing on most North American toilets. Measure from the center of the bolt holes to the front edge of the bowl and compare it with the seat drawing; Kohler’s drawings for these elongated seats show an overall length of about 18-5/8 inches, and round bowls are noticeably shorter. Our toilet seat size guide walks through it.
Kohler also makes round versions of the Stonewood line, so check the part number if your bowl is round. Our round vs elongated guide explains the shapes.
Some one-piece and skirted toilets may use special seats or hinge positions; check the toilet maker’s recommended seat if yours is a designer model.
Wood or plastic?
Molded wood seats are heavier and feel more solid. Plastic seats are lighter and resist chipping, and some have quick-release hinges for cleaning. Our toilet seat guide covers plastic picks, including a quick-release Mayfair seat and a top-mount Kohler seat.
If you want warmth or washing functions, a powered seat is a different category; see our heated toilet seat guide and bidet seat guide.
Colors and older fixtures
White seats suit most modern toilets, but older bathrooms often have biscuit or almond fixtures. Kohler lists the Stonewood K-4647 in white, honed white, biscuit and almond, and the Stonewood Quiet-Close in white and biscuit. Match the seat color to the toilet, not the walls; even a slightly different white can look off next to the china.
If you are not sure of your toilet’s color, check the maker and color code inside the tank or under the lid, and compare it with the seat maker’s color list before ordering.
Quiet-Close and hinge wear
Slow-close hinges stop the lid and seat from slamming, which is quieter and protects the bowl. Kohler builds Quiet-Close into the Stonewood K-20466 and Broadwood K-25881. The hinge mechanism is the part most likely to wear, so treat it gently: let the lid close on its own instead of pushing it down.
If a slow-close hinge stops working, check whether the maker sells replacement hinges for that seat before replacing the whole seat.
Installing a wood seat
Remove the old seat by opening the bolt caps behind the lid and unscrewing the nuts from below or the bolts from above. Clean the area under the hinges, then set the new seat, center it on the bowl and tighten the bolts by hand plus a little more. Over-tightening plastic hinge hardware can crack it, and a loose seat shifts; check the bolts again after a week.
Follow the seat maker’s installation guide for the exact hardware. A wobbly toilet is a different problem from a loose seat; our wobbly toilet guide covers the bowl itself.
When the old seat will not come off
Old seat bolts often fight back. Plastic bolts can snap, and metal bolts and nuts corrode under the bowl rim. A little penetrating oil and patience usually beats force; our penetrating oil guide covers options. Hold the nut from below with a wrench or pliers while you turn the bolt from above.
If a metal bolt is seized, cutting it is the last resort: a small hacksaw blade slipped between the hinge and the bowl, with tape on the china to protect it. Our hacksaw guide covers compact saws that fit. Take your time; a slip can chip the bowl.
Caring for a wood seat
Clean molded wood seats with mild soap and water and a soft cloth. Keep harsh bowl cleaners off the seat finish, follow the seat maker’s cleaning guidance, and wipe the seat dry, especially around the hinges.
A chipped enamel finish can let moisture into the molded wood underneath, so replace a badly chipped seat rather than living with it. A new seat is a quick way to freshen a bathroom without replacing the toilet.

How we chose
This document-based guide makes no hands-on testing claim. We read Kohler’s spec sheets for the Stonewood K-20466, Broadwood K-25881 and Stonewood K-4647. Mayfair and Bemis wood seats were checked, but we could not reach maker pages to confirm them and found naming or model-field conflicts in the listings, so they are not linked. On October 15, 2026, all three linked standard new offers were sold by Amazon.com and showed stock. Read our selection method and about Plumbing Picks.
