The connection is the first thing to match. A threaded (IPS) spout screws onto a threaded pipe nipple coming out of the wall. A slip-on spout slides over a plain 1/2-inch copper pipe and locks with a set screw or clamp. If you are not sure which one you have, see our slip-on vs threaded tub spout guide. For Kohler models, see our Kohler tub spout guide.
American Standard 8888.055 Deluxe: threaded diverter spout
Choose the American Standard 8888.055 if a threaded pipe nipple sticks out of your wall. American Standard’s tub spout spec sheet (lixil.cdn.celum.cloud) lists the Deluxe Diverter Tub Spout with a 1/2-inch IPS connection, metal construction and a 130 mm (5-1/8 inch) reference length, in Polished Chrome (.002) or Brushed Nickel (.295).
American Standard’s product page (americanstandard-us.com) calls it a cast-brass spout with a built-in diverter for a bath and shower system, and lists UPC 012611164200 for 8888055.002. The page title says 4-inch, while the sheet’s drawing shows 5-1/8 inches; measure from your wall to the end of the pipe before ordering. On October 17, 2026, the standard new offer (model 8888055, same UPC) was in stock and sold by Amazon.com.

American Standard 8888.087 Serin: short slip-on spout
Choose the Serin 8888.087 for a short, modern slip-on spout over copper. American Standard’s wall mount tub spout spec sheet (lixil.cdn.celum.cloud) lists the Serin Slip-On Diverter Tub Spout for 1/2-inch copper pipe, metal construction and a 4-7/8 inch length to the center of the stream straightener, in Polished Chrome (.002) or Satin Nickel (.295).
The product page (americanstandard-us.com) calls it a durable cast-brass spout with a built-in diverter and lists UPC 012611471544 for 8888087.002. On October 17, 2026, the standard new offer (model 8888.087.002, same UPC) was in stock and sold by Amazon.com.

American Standard 8888.318 Studio S: longer slip-on spout
Choose the Studio S 8888.318 for a longer reach, or to match Studio S trim. The spec sheet (lixil.cdn.celum.cloud) lists the Slip-On Diverter Tub Spout for 1/2-inch copper pipe, metal construction and a 6-1/8 inch length to the center of the stream straightener, with a 1-inch minimum noted in the roughing-in drawing.
American Standard’s product page (americanstandard-us.com) describes a pull-up knob that switches water between the showerhead or hand shower and the spout, and lists Matte Black, Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel and Brushed Cool Sunrise; UPC 012611597671 is the chrome 8888318.002. On October 17, 2026, the standard new offer (same UPC) was sold by Amazon.com with 10 left.

Moen 3857 Brantford: slip fit with lift diverter
Choose the Moen 3857 to match Moen Brantford trim, or for a slip-fit spout from Moen. Moen’s 3857 spec sheet (assets.moen.com) lists a metal Brantford diverter tub spout designed for a 1/2-inch pipe with a slip fit CC connection, in Chrome (3857), Brushed Nickel (3857BN) or Oil Rubbed Bronze (3857ORB).
The drawing gives a 5-3/8 inch spout length and lists a 3-5/16 inch minimum and a 7-1/4 inch maximum dimension from the finished wall line; compare them to your pipe before ordering. Moen lists a lifetime limited warranty against leaks, drips and finish defects to the original consumer. On October 17, 2026, the standard new offer (model 3857, UPC 026508070406) was in stock and sold by Amazon.com.

Measure before you buy
Slip-on spouts depend on how far the copper pipe sticks out of the finished wall. Moen prints a minimum and maximum on its 3857 drawing; American Standard prints a reference length and a 1-inch minimum on its Studio S drawing. Threaded spouts depend on the nipple length and thread type. Measure the pipe, note whether it is threaded or plain copper, and compare it to the sheet for the spout you want. To tell which type you have, see our slip-on vs threaded guide.
Diverter or non-diverter?
All four picks are diverter spouts: a diverter on the spout sends water up to the shower head. If your tub has no shower, or the diverter is in the valve trim instead, you want a non-diverter spout. American Standard’s sheets list non-diverter versions in the Studio line (8888.316 slip-on and 8888.317 IPS). If your current diverter leaks water out of the spout while the shower runs, see our shower diverter guide first.
Matching your faucet trim
A tub spout looks best when its style and finish match the valve trim and shower head. American Standard’s Serin and Studio S spouts are named for its collections, and Moen’s Brantford spout matches Moen’s Brantford line. Finish codes are the last part of the model number: .002 is Polished Chrome on American Standard, and BN or ORB are Brushed Nickel and Oil Rubbed Bronze on Moen. For a full matching set, see our Moen shower faucet guide.
Installing a tub spout
Follow the installation sheet that comes with your spout. A threaded spout screws onto the pipe nipple; for thread sealing products, see our thread seal tape guide. A slip-on spout slides over the copper and is secured as its instructions describe. If the instructions call for sealing the spout to the wall, see our silicone sealant guide.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a standard tub spout connection?
The four picks here are made for 1/2-inch pipe: one 1/2-inch IPS threaded and three slip-on over 1/2-inch copper.
Do all tub spouts have a diverter?
No. These four do, but American Standard also sells non-diverter spouts such as the Studio 8888.316 and 8888.317.
How long is a tub spout?
From these sheets, 4-7/8 inches (Serin) to 6-1/8 inches (Studio S), with the Moen 3857 at 5-3/8 inches.
Can I put a slip-on spout on a threaded pipe?
Not as is. Slip-on spouts listed here are for plain 1/2-inch copper; a threaded nipple calls for a threaded spout like the 8888.055.
How do I know if my tub spout is slip-on or threaded?
A slip-on spout slides over plain copper pipe; a threaded spout screws onto a threaded nipple. Remove the old spout or check its instructions, then measure the pipe end.
