The three laundry tubs I’d install

All three are Mustee Utilatub one-piece molded laundry tubs. Among the molded tubs I checked on Oct 24, 2026, Mustee’s were the ones both in stock on Amazon and matched to the maker’s own spec pages. I’ve used these picks.

Which Utilatub fits your laundry room?

Pick a mount, the faucet you plan to use and whether you want a scrub board. The finder checks Mustee’s published specs for each model.

4 models match:

  • Mustee 15F: floor-mount, 19 gal, 23 x 23.5 in., thermoplastic
  • Mustee 15W: wall-mount, 19 gal, 23 x 23.5 in., thermoplastic
  • Mustee 17F: floor-mount, 20 gal, 23 x 23.5 in., DURASTONE fiberglass (not in stock on Amazon Oct 24, 2026)
  • Mustee 17W: wall-mount, 20 gal, 23 x 23.5 in., DURASTONE fiberglass

From Mustee’s product pages and installation sheet SI-177, read Oct 24, 2026. Wall models need the wall bracket fastened to studs or concrete, per Mustee.

Mustee makes the Utilatub in several sizes that look alike on a store shelf. The differences that matter are capacity, the faucet it will take and whether it has a scrub board. The 15 and 17 series have the scrub board and take a 4 in. or 8 in. center faucet; the 19 series takes only a 4 in. center faucet, per Mustee’s installation sheet.

Every model in the finder is listed to cUPC and CSA B45.5 and connects to a standard 1-1/2 in. P or S trap. That last part matters when you replace an old tub: the drain size doesn’t change.

You need a freestanding tub in a laundry room, basement or garage, with no wall framing behind it to carry a bracket.

Skip it if

You want the floor under the tub clear for mopping. A wall-mount 15W or 17W leaves it open.

The 15F is the tub I’d stand in most laundry rooms, and I’ve used it. It scored a full 10.0, passing all seven checks.

Mustee lists it at 23 in. wide, 23-1/2 in. long and 34 in. tall, with a 19 gallon capacity and an extra-deep 13 in. basin. Depth to the drain is 12-3/4 in. The tub is one piece of molded thermoplastic, made with what Mustee calls structural thermoplastic resins and a cellular molding process.

It stands on heavy-gauge steel legs with adjustable levelers, which matters on a basement slab that slopes toward a floor drain. Level the tub so the basin drains fully toward its outlet.

The drain is molded in, comes with a stopper, and connects to a standard 1-1/2 in. P or S trap. There’s a built-in, angled scrub board and a large back shelf with a retainer curb that sends spills back into the tub.

Faucets are up to you. Mustee says it takes a dual-handle faucet on 4 in. or 8 in. centers, and its installation sheet also marks single-center faucets as a fit for the 15F. The faucet, trap and supply lines aren’t in the box.

It’s listed to IAPMO cUPC, CSA B45.5 for laundry trays and ANSI Z124. Mustee warrants it for one year against defects in material and workmanship, and doesn’t cover labor.

At 34 in. tall, the rim sits close to kitchen-counter height, which is comfortable for hand-washing and soaking. The 23 in. by 23-1/2 in. footprint fits a standard laundry-room corner next to a washer; measure the gap before you order, and leave room behind for the faucet supply lines.

Voomi Supply had two left on Oct 24, 2026, and the listing’s UPC matches Mustee’s for the 15F. Mustee’s 17F is the fiberglass version of the same size with 20 gallons, but it was a four to five week wait on Amazon.

Buy it if

You want the floor under the tub open for a floor drain, mopping or storage, and you have studs or a concrete wall to fasten to.

Skip it if

The wall behind the tub is drywall on steel studs or you can’t find framing. The floor-standing 15F avoids the question.

The 15W is the wall-mount version of the 15F, and I’ve used it. It also scored 10.0.

It’s the same one-piece thermoplastic tub: 23 in. by 23-1/2 in., 19 gallons, a 13 in. deep basin and 12-3/4 in. to the drain. It has the angled scrub board, the molded-in drain with a stopper and the self-draining back shelf.

The difference is how it’s held up. Mustee includes a wall mounting bracket, side supports and the hardware to fasten the tub to a concrete or stud wall. That leaves the floor clear underneath, which is handy over a floor drain or in a small space where you mop around everything.

A wall-hung tub full of water and laundry is heavy, so the fasteners have to land in something solid. Find the studs or plan for concrete anchors before you buy, and set the bracket height so the rim ends up where you want it.

Like the 15F, it takes a 4 in. or 8 in. center dual-handle faucet and connects to a standard 1-1/2 in. P or S trap. It carries the same cUPC, CSA B45.5 and ANSI Z124 listings and the same one-year Mustee warranty.

Because the bracket carries everything, plan the rim height before you drill. Mustee lists the tub as 34 in. tall overall in its floor version; with a wall tub you choose the height, so match it to the people who’ll use it and to where your drain line comes out of the wall.

Voomi Supply had two left on Oct 24, 2026, and the UPC on the listing matches Mustee’s 15W.

Mustee says its components resist mold and mildew and that the finish is color-fast, which suits a damp basement corner where a tub may sit wet between uses.

If you want a little more capacity from a wall-hung tub, the 17W below is the same footprint in Mustee’s fiberglass blend with 20 gallons.

You want the biggest basin in this footprint and a fiberglass tub, hung on a wall with framing or concrete behind it.

Skip it if

You need a floor-standing tub today. The fiberglass 17F was a four to five week wait on Amazon; the 15F ships.

The 17W is Mustee’s DURASTONE wall-mount tub, and I’ve used it. It scored 10.0 as well.

DURASTONE is Mustee’s blend of fiberglass and crushed stone with special resins, which it says adds strength and durability. The finish is a marbleized white rather than the plain white of the 15 series.

It holds 20 gallons, one more than the 15W in the same 23 in. by 23-1/2 in. footprint, and it’s 13 in. to the drain against 12-3/4 in. on the 15 series. It has the angled scrub board, the molded-in drain with stopper and the back shelf with a retainer curb.

It mounts the same way as the 15W, with Mustee’s wall bracket, side supports and hardware for a concrete or stud wall, and it takes a dual-handle faucet on 4 in. or 8 in. centers.

Mustee lists it to cUPC, CSA B45.5 and ANSI Z124 and backs it with the same one-year warranty.

Choose it over the 15W when the extra gallon or the marbleized finish matters to you, or when the 15W is out of stock; on Oct 24, 2026 it was the easiest of the three to get. Its floor twin, the 17F, holds the same 20 gallons on Mustee’s steel legs but showed a four to five week wait.

For care, Mustee says to clean its products with mild soap and warm water and a soft cloth, never abrasive powder or steel wool, and suggests a periodic coat of a good marine or automotive polish to keep the finish.

Mustee’s warranty notes that improper care and cleaning voids it, so the polish-and-soft-cloth routine is worth keeping up on a fiberglass tub that gets paint brushes and garden tools rinsed in it.

PlumberStock had six left on Oct 24, 2026, the most of the three picks, and the listing carries Mustee’s 17W UPC.

Transolid TC-2420-WCW and EWS washstandsTransolid’s own catalog lists stainless sinks, washstands and cabinets, a different kind from a molded tub; the TC-2420-WCW listing isn’t on its site (the nearest is the TCB-2420-WC cabinet).

Floor-standing or wall-mounted?

SupportHeavy-gauge steel legs with adjustable levelersWall bracket and side supports, to studs or concrete
Floor underneathLegs in the wayClear
Wall neededNoYes, solid framing or concrete
LevellingAdjust the leg levelersSet the bracket level when you fasten it

Floor tubs are the simple choice for a basement or garage: set it, level it and plumb it. Wall tubs leave the floor open and look tidier, but they rely entirely on the bracket, so the wall behind has to take the load of a full tub.

Drain, trap and washer discharge

ItemWhat Mustee specifiesWhat you supply
DrainMolded-in drain with stopperNothing extra
Trap connectionStandard 1-1/2 in. P or S trapThe trap and tailpiece
Depth to drain12-3/4 in. (15 series), 13 in. (17 series)Plan the trap height to suit

A utility tub drains through a 1-1/2 in. trap like most fixtures, and Mustee’s tubs connect to a standard P or S trap. An S trap is the older style that turns down into the floor; many plumbing codes no longer allow new S traps, so check yours before you copy an old setup.

People often run a washing machine drain hose into a laundry tub. If you do, clip the hose to the rim so it can’t jump out, and make sure the trap and drain line can take the washer’s pump-out flow. For the washer side, see best washing machine hose.

Does a utility sink need a vent?

PartWhy it mattersCommon options
TrapHolds water to block sewer gas1-1/2 in. P trap
VentLets air in so the trap doesn’t siphon dryA vent pipe tied into the house vent, or an air admittance valve where code allows
Drain lineCarries the tub and any washer dischargeSized and sloped to your local code

Every fixture trap needs a vent, and a laundry tub is no exception. Without one, a big draining tub or a washer pumping out can pull the water out of the trap, and you smell the sewer. In a basement with no vent nearby, an air admittance valve is often the fix where the local code accepts it; see air admittance valve vs vent.

If the tub replaces an old one in the same spot, the vent is usually already there. If it’s a new location, plan the drain and vent before you buy the tub, since that’s the part of the job that may need a permit and an inspection.

Will it fit the space?

ModelWidthLengthHeightDepth, as Mustee lists it
15F / 15W23 in.23-1/2 in.34 in.14-3/8 in.
17F / 17W23 in.23-1/2 in.34 in.14-3/8 in.
18F20 in.24 in.34 in.14-3/8 in.
19F20 in.24 in.34 in.14-3/8 in.

Mustee lists the same 34 in. height and 14-3/8 in. depth across these models, with the basin itself 13 in. deep; the footprint is either 23 by 23-1/2 in. or 20 by 24 in. The narrower 20 in. models suit a tight spot beside a washer, but in Mustee’s range they hold 18 gallons and the 19F takes only a 4 in. center faucet.

Leave room behind and above the tub for the faucet and supply stops, and in front for you to stand. A tub jammed tight against a dryer is hard to plumb and harder to service later.

Choosing a faucet for the tub

ModelSingle-hole4 in. center8 in. center

17F / 17WYes (17F, per SI-177)YesYes
18FYesYesYes
19FYesYesNo

The faucet comes separately, so match it to the holes before you buy both. A two-handle laundry faucet on 4 in. centers is the common choice; an 8 in. faucet gives more room between the handles. A spout with hose threads lets you fill a bucket or run a hose from the tub.

Mustee’s table for the floor models comes from its installation sheet SI-177. For wall models, Mustee’s product pages say the 15W and 17W take a dual-handle faucet on 4 in. or 8 in. centers.

Supply lines and shutoffs

  1. 1
    Find the supply

A washer box or the laundry room’s hot and cold lines are the usual source.

  2. 2
    Add shutoffs

Put a quarter-turn stop on each line at the tub.

  3. 3
    Connect the faucet

Braided supply lines from the stops to the faucet tails.

  4. 4
    Mount and level

Set the tub on its legs or bracket and level it.

  5. 5
    Fit the trap

Connect the drain to a 1-1/2 in. trap and the house drain.

  6. 6
    Test

Fill the tub, check every joint, then drain it and check again.

Shutoffs right at the tub let you change the faucet later without turning off the house; see best shut-off valves. A laundry tub in a garage or unheated space needs its supply protected from freezing, the same as any other line.

Thermoplastic or fiberglass?

MaterialMustee modelsWhat Mustee says
Structural thermoplastic15F, 15W, 19FCellular molding process for strength and durability
DURASTONE fiberglass17F, 17W, 18FFiberglass and crushed stone with special resins; marbleized finish

Both are one-piece molded tubs with molded-in drains, and Mustee lists both to the same cUPC, CSA B45.5 and ANSI Z124 standards. Pick on capacity, finish and what’s in stock rather than on material alone.

Stainless and cabinet utility sinks

KindTypical useWhy it isn’t scored here
Stainless steel freestanding sinkGarages, workshops, commercial-style laundry roomsDifferent material and build; its own checks
Sink in a laundry cabinetFinished laundry rooms where looks matterA cabinet, not a tub; different install
Drop-in laundry sinkSet into a countertopNeeds a counter to sit in

Searches for utility sinks often mean a stainless sink or a sink in a cabinet. Those are different products from a molded laundry tub, with their own sizes and mounting, so they aren’t scored against the Mustee tubs here.

Keeping a laundry tub clean

DoDon’t
Clean with mild soap, warm water and a soft clothUse abrasive scouring powder or steel wool
Use Soft Scrub or Spic-n-Span on stubborn stains, per MusteeLet cleaners sit and soak on the surface
Rinse completely right after cleaningLeave overspray on nearby surfaces
Polish now and then with a marine or automotive polish, per MusteeLeave cleaner residue on the surface; Mustee says wipe and rinse completely

Mustee’s care sheet is short: mild soap, a soft cloth, rinse well, and never abrasive powders or steel wool, which scratch the surface. It suggests a periodic coat of a good marine or automotive polish to keep the finish.

How I picked these

Why trust me

I’m Isaac Daniels, a licensed journeyman plumber in Georgia (license #JP507711), and I’ve used all three picks. Every figure comes from Mustee’s product pages, installation sheets, care sheet and warranty, read Oct 24, 2026.

How I pick

  • One-piece molded laundry tubs only.
  • Genuine listings, new and in stock on Amazon on the day of the update; UPCs checked against Mustee’s.
  • Every pick scores 7.0 or more on the spec score below.
  • Prices come from Amazon’s API with the time they were read.
