Your tool is an RP 351, RP 350 or other Standard tool. Compact jaws won't mount on it.
Compact jaws are the ones most house plumbers buy, because the RP 251 kit is the common tool. RIDGID lists every Compact ProPress jaw at 2½ pounds, from the ½ inch 16958 to the 1¼ inch 31228. That's why a Compact tool feels so much easier overhead than a Standard one.
Watch the tool list. RIDGID's jaw page still names only the 100-B, RP 200-B and RP 210-B, but its June 2025 compatibility guide adds the RP 251, RP 241 and RP 240. Go by the newer guide.
Past 1¼ inch, a Compact tool is done with jaws. The C1 actuator and rings cover the same ½ to 1¼ inch range for spots where a jaw won't open.
RIDGID's listing adds that a Compact jaw is 33% smaller than a Standard one, which is what gets it between joists and close to a wall, and that a ½ inch press takes about 5 seconds. Like every ProPress jaw, it presses on a wet line with no flame, so there's no hot work permit.
The same Compact ProPress jaws also press Viega's ProPress 316 stainless fittings to 1¼ inch, per the June 2025 guide. Steel is different. MegaPress fittings for steel pipe need Compact Series MegaPress jaws, which stop at 1 inch, with rings only to ¾ inch. A ProPress jaw set won't cover a steel job.
PEX is a third profile. RIDGID's PureFlow PEX press fittings take Compact Series PureFlow jaws up to 1½ inch, and the guide lists them apart from the ProPress jaws. One Compact tool can run all three systems, but each needs its own jaws.
RIDGID's inspection sheet adds a rule for every jaw: use it only where the fitting maker specifies it for their system. The wrong jaw can cause leaks, damage the tool or void warranties.

You run a Standard tool and press 1½ and 2 inch mains, or you want one tool from ½ to 2 inch.
Skip it if
You own an RP 251. Standard jaws won't fit it, and the Compact set covers house sizes at a fraction of the weight.
Standard jaws are what gets a Standard tool to 2 inch. RIDGID lists six: 76652 for ½ inch through 76677 for 2 inch. The weight climbs fast, from 4 pounds at ½ inch to 6½ at 1½ and 10 at 2.
On the tool side, the June 2025 guide lists the RP 351, RP 350, RP 340, RP 330, RP 320-E and CT-400, plus the Extended RP 342-XL. The older jaw page leaves off the RP 351, so trust the guide.
Above 2 inch, jaws stop and rings take over. That's the XL-C kit below, driven by the V2 actuator.
The full ladder shows where the weight comes from: 4¼ pounds at ¾ inch, 4½ at 1 inch and 4¾ at 1¼. The jump only starts at 1½. So the house sizes cost you little extra on a Standard tool. RIDGID also publishes a press tool attachment inspection and maintenance sheet for these jaws.
The 76652 listing states the limit plainly: not compatible with Compact Series press tools. It names the Standard tools it fits (CT-400, 320-E, RP 330-B, RP 330-C and RP 340) and carries RIDGID's lifetime warranty.
Standard tools reach further on other systems too. The guide lists Standard Series MegaPress jaws and rings to 2 inch for steel, and Standard PureFlow jaws to 2 inch for PEX. The Extended RP 342-XL has the same ProPress reach as the Standard tools: jaws to 2 inch, then rings for 2½ to 4.
Two copper brands stop at 2 inch in RIDGID's guide: PROFLO Copper Press and Conex Bänninger's >B< Press. On those jobs, Standard jaws cover every size, and the big ring kit has no fitting to press.
RIDGID's sheet says to keep fingers and hands clear of the jaw during the press cycle. That matters more as the jaws grow: the 2 inch jaw weighs 10 pounds.
You press near walls, joists or other pipes where a jaw can't fit, or you need 2½ to 4 inch on a Standard tool.
Skip it if
Every joint you press is out in the open. Jaws are faster, and the kit money buys a lot of fittings.
A ring goes around the fitting first, then the actuator jaw on the tool closes it. RIDGID says the swivel actuator lets the tool sit up to 90 degrees either side of the tube, which is the whole point in a tight joist bay.
Pick the kit by tool. V1 is ½ to 1¼ inch for Standard tools, C1 is the same sizes for Compact tools, and V2 is 1½ to 2 inch for Standard tools. The ½ to 1¼ inch rings are listed for both V1 and C1, so the 28048 combo kit runs on either size of tool.
For 2½ to 4 inch, the XL-C kit is the only way on a RIDGID tool. It's for Standard tools and uses the V2 actuator. RIDGID lists the kit weights at 10¾ lb for V1, 13⅝ for V2, 8⅛ for C1 and 12⅞ for the combo.
The XL kit, 20483, holds three XL-C/XL-S rings, one V2 actuator and a case. XL-C is for copper fittings and XL-S for stainless, and the listing says the kit works only with Standard Series tools. The listing says new jaw identification clips make it quicker to pick the right ring.
The V1 kit listing names the Standard tools it fits: CT-400, 320-E, RP 330-B, RP 330-C, RP 340 and RP 350. It covers ½ to 1¼ inch copper and stainless tube, and comes with the rings, the V1 actuator and a case.
Rings aren't one kit for every system. On a Compact tool, RIDGID's guide lists MegaPress rings for steel only up to ¾ inch, well short of the 1¼ inch copper rings.
Check the ring tips before each job. RIDGID's sheet names them as a spot where fitting material builds up, and that buildup makes burrs on the next fitting more likely.

You need only a replacement jaw, or any copper size above ¾ inch. This link is for the complete 72553 kit.
The RP 115 is RIDGID's smallest tool, and it takes its own Mini jaws. The June 2025 guide lists it for ProPress up to ¾ inch with Mini Series ProPress jaws, and nothing larger.
Mini ProPress jaw catalog numbers are 72578 and 72583. Mini PureFlow jaws look similar but press PEX, not copper. The linked 72553 kit contains ProPress jaws.
RIDGID lists both Mini ProPress jaws, the ½ inch 72578 and the ¾ inch 72583, at 2.2 pounds each on the RP 115 page, and says Mini jaws fit only the RP 115. They carry RIDGID's Full Lifetime Warranty.
Kit 72558 includes both ProPress and PureFlow Mini jaws; the linked 72553 kit includes ProPress jaws. The RP 115 itself weighs 2.9 pounds without battery or jaw and swivels its head 210°.
RIDGID's guide lists the Mini ProPress jaws for the same copper brands as the bigger jaws, up to ¾ inch: Viega ProPress and ProPress 316 stainless, Mueller Streamline PRS, ApolloPress, F.W. Webb PurePro, PROFLO, Ferguson FNW, Legend Press and >B< Press.
Steel isn't on the list. The guide gives the RP 115 no MegaPress jaws at all, so a Mini tool is a copper and PEX tool only. For PEX it takes Mini PureFlow jaws, also up to ¾ inch.
The look-alike problem is why RIDGID's inspection sheet says not to use an attachment that isn't clearly marked for its use. On a Mini tool, read the stamp on the jaw, not the shape.
A damaged Mini jaw gets thrown out whole, never repaired. RIDGID's sheet says a jaw that's been welded, ground, drilled or modified can shatter during pressing and cause serious injury. The sheet also says to wear eye protection.

Catalog numbers and weights from RIDGID's Compact and Standard jaw pages. RIDGID says Compact jaws are 40% lighter and 33% smaller than Standard jaws. RIDGID's Compact jaw, Standard jaw and ring pages all list a Full Lifetime Warranty.
Why jaw weight matters overhead
The tool's weight is only half of it. Hang a jaw on the end and the number you're holding over your head changes fast.
Jaw only. RIDGID's Compact and Standard ProPress jaw pages.
Put a 2½ lb Compact jaw on a 3.6 lb RP 251 and you're holding about 6 pounds plus the battery. A 2 inch Standard jaw on a 7.1 lb RP 351 is 17 pounds before the battery. For the tools themselves, see our best press tool guide.

How RIDGID says to check and clean jaws
From RIDGID's press tool attachment inspection sheet. A worn jaw can make a bad press that looks fine.
1
Take it off the tool
Inspect the jaw or ring off the tool, and make sure it's clearly marked for its fitting system. RIDGID says not to use unmarked attachments.
2
Clean off oil and dirt
It makes cracks and wear easier to see and the jaw easier to handle.
3
Look for damage
Cracked, broken, worn, missing, misaligned or binding parts mean the jaw gets discarded, not repaired.
4
Clean the press profile gently
Fitting buildup near the tips can put burrs on the next fitting. Use a fine Scotch-Brite pad, steel wool or a steel wire brush. Never emery cloth, sandpaper or a grinder.
5
Oil the pivots monthly
A light general-purpose oil on the pivot pins and moving points, then wipe off the extra.
6
Check the springs every use
The jaw should open and close freely with moderate effort. If it binds, don't use it until it's fixed.
Never weld, grind or drill a jaw
RIDGID warns a modified attachment can shatter during pressing. Replace the whole jaw.
RIDGID jaws on another brand's tool
RIDGID says to use its attachments only on RIDGID press tools, and only where the fitting maker specifies them.
PureFlow PEX jaws are separate. They look alike and won't press copper fittings.
Still choosing a tool
Pick the tool first; the jaws follow. Start with RP 351 vs RP 251.
Questions people ask
Which jaws fit the RIDGID RP 251?
Compact Series ProPress jaws: 16958 (½ in.), 16963 (¾), 16978 (1) and 31228 (1¼). For tight spots, the C1 actuator and rings cover the same ½ to 1¼ inch range. RIDGID's June 2025 compatibility guide lists the RP 251 with both.
Are RIDGID Compact and Standard jaws interchangeable?
No. Compact jaws fit only Compact tools and Standard jaws fit only Standard tools, per RIDGID's jaw pages. The ½ to 1¼ inch rings are the exception: they work with both the V1 and C1 actuators.
Do RIDGID jaws fit Milwaukee press tools?
No. RIDGID says to use RIDGID attachments only on RIDGID press tools. Milwaukee's M12 and M18 take Milwaukee jaws.
Can RIDGID ProPress jaws press NIBCO fittings?
NIBCO isn't in RIDGID's June 2025 guide. NIBCO's own approved matrix lists RIDGID ProPress Compact jaws from ½ to 1 inch on the RP 251 and the C1 kit to 1¼. Go by NIBCO's chart for NIBCO fittings.
What's the difference between press jaws and press rings?
A jaw clamps the fitting directly from the tool. A ring wraps the fitting first and an actuator on the tool closes it, which works in spaces too tight for a jaw to open. On a RIDGID Standard tool, rings are also the only way to press 2½ to 4 inch.
How much does a RIDGID ProPress jaw weigh?
RIDGID lists every Compact ProPress jaw at 2½ pounds. Standard jaws run from 4 pounds at ½ inch to 10 pounds at 2 inch.
How do you clean ProPress jaws?
Wipe off oil and dirt, then clean the press profile with a fine Scotch-Brite pad, steel wool or a steel wire brush, per RIDGID's inspection sheet. Never use emery cloth, sandpaper or a grinder, which can change the profile.
Do RIDGID press jaws have a warranty?
Yes. RIDGID's Compact, Standard and ring pages all list a Full Lifetime Warranty.
Can the RIDGID RP 115 press MegaPress steel fittings?
No. RIDGID's June 2025 guide lists no MegaPress jaws for the RP 115. It presses ProPress copper and PureFlow PEX, each up to ¾ inch.
