Best Black Kitchen Faucets (2026): Matte Black Picks

Plumbing Picks is reader-supported. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

Quick answer from a licensed plumber: For most kitchens, buy the Moen Haelyn 87627BL. It installs through 1 to 4 holes, includes a matching black soap dispenser, and Moen warrants the finish for life to the original homeowner. For more spray choices, the Kohler Simplice K-596-BL. For a tall spring-spout look, the KRAUS Bolden KPF-1610MB. Whichever you buy, clean it the way its maker says, because the warranties exclude damage from the wrong cleaners.

Our pick for most kitchens: the Moen Haelyn 87627BL, which fits 1 to 4 holes and has a lifetime finish warranty. Check the Moen Haelyn 87627BL on Amazon

This page is for buyers who have already picked the finish: matte black. A black faucet is chosen with the same checks as any kitchen faucet, plus one more, which is how the maker says to care for the finish and what its warranty excludes. Our best kitchen faucet guide ranks faucets of every finish. Here every pick is the matte black model number, checked against the maker’s own sheet. The matte black Kohler Simplice also appears in that guide, and the Southport in our pull-down faucet guide; this page adds what those guides skip: each maker’s finish care rule and what its warranty excludes.

How to Choose a Black Kitchen Faucet

Finish care decides how long it looks good

The makers do not agree on cleaning, so read the rule for the faucet you buy. American Standard’s manual is the strictest: rinse with clear water, dry with a soft cotton flannel cloth, and use no soaps, acid, polish, abrasives or coarse cloths. KRAUS says to spot-test any new cleaner and rinse it off right away. It lists all-purpose and glass cleaners it considers fine, and says never to use abrasive powders, bleach, ammonia, alcohol, vinegar or chlorine, or abrasive pads, steel wool or wire brushes. KRAUS’s warranty says abrasive cleaners such as powders, bleach, ammonia, alcohol or chlorine, and abrasive pads, steel wool or wire brushes, void it. Moen’s warranty excludes damage from cleaners containing abrasives, alcohol or other organic solvents. Kohler’s sheet says its finishes resist corrosion and tarnishing. Kohler’s faucet warranty sheet says cleaners with abrasive cleansers, ammonia, bleach, acids, waxes, alcohol or solvents not recommended for Kohler finishes void the warranty. Plumber’s note: the common thread is to wipe the faucet dry after use and keep vinegar, bleach and scouring pads off it. KRAUS says to pat dry with a microfiber cloth to prevent water spots. Mineral buildup in the spout tip is covered in how to clean a faucet aerator.

Deck holes and deck thickness

Count your sink or counter holes before anything else. The Moen Haelyn installs through 1, 2, 3 or 4 holes. Kohler’s Simplice is single-hole or three-hole with the escutcheon included. The American Standard listing includes a deck plate for 1, 2 or 3 holes, and the KRAUS needs its deck plate bought separately. Hole size matters too. American Standard and KRAUS call for 1-3/8 to 1-1/2 in., and Moen calls for at least 1-1/2 in. Then check the deck thickness, which is the counter or sink plus anything under it. Moen and Kohler allow 2-1/2 in., and Kohler sells a deep rough-in kit for thicker counters. American Standard lists 43 mm, or 51 mm with the escutcheon. KRAUS gives two numbers, 3-3/8 in. on its spec sheet and 1.5 in. in its FAQ. More in kitchen faucet hole size.

Supply connections

All four connect to 3/8 in. compression outlets on the shutoff valves. Moen says its connections accept a standard ball-nose connection for 3/8 in. tubing, and the listing says supply lines are included. American Standard ships 35 in. color-coded hoses. Its manual says to loop extra length so it does not kink and to tighten with a wrench without over-tightening. KRAUS builds in 26.5 in. nylon lines, and Kohler includes flexible supply lines. Plumber’s note: a new faucet is the time to replace old multi-turn stops that will not close fully. Measure the distance from the stop to the underside of the deck so the lines reach without stretching. Stops by pipe type are in supply stop valves by pipe type, and lines in best braided faucet supply lines.

Height, reach and flow

A pull-down faucet needs room above it and below it. The KRAUS Bolden is 18-3/4 in. tall, so check it against any cabinet or window sill. Under the sink, Moen’s instructions say to keep a clear zone for the hose weight to travel. For flow, the KRAUS and American Standard are rated 1.8 gpm and the Moen and Kohler 1.5 gpm at 60 psi, each with a boost button. Pull-down styles in other finishes are compared in best pull-down kitchen faucets.

Top Pick: Matte Black Pull-Down

Moen Haelyn 87627BL Matte Black Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet

Single handle, pull-down · Power Boost button · Reflex docking · 68 in. braided hose · 1.5 gpm at 60 psi · 1255 Duralast cartridge · installs through 1, 2, 3 or 4 holes, 1-1/2 in. minimum, up to 2-1/2 in. deck · 3/8 in. compression connections · soap dispenser included (listing) · lifetime limited warranty against leaks, drips and finish defects to the original homeowner

The Haelyn is the black faucet to buy for most kitchens because it fits the most sinks. Moen’s spec sheet says it is designed to install through 1, 2, 3 or 4 holes of at least 1-1/2 in., with one hole for the soap dispenser. The listing says the dispenser is in the box in the same matte black. It handles a deck up to 2-1/2 in. thick. The pull-down wand rides on a 68 in. braided hose with Moen’s Reflex docking, and a Power Boost button gives what Moen calls “boosted water performance.” Flow is limited to 1.5 gpm at 60 psi. The cartridge is Moen’s 1255, which matters later because it is a common Moen part.

For the finish, Moen’s warranty is the clearest written promise here: lifetime limited against leaks, drips and finish defects for the original homeowner, 10 years in a multifamily building and 5 years commercial. Read the exclusions, though. Moen’s instruction sheet says damage from “cleaners containing abrasives, alcohol or other organic solvents” is excluded from the warranty. The 3/8 in. compression connections take standard supply tubing, and the listing says supply lines are included. Moen’s instructions also have you clamp a hose weight at a marked spot on the hose and keep a clear zone under the sink so the weight slides freely. Moen also states the faucet meets CalGreen and Georgia SB370 requirements.

  • Fits 1, 2, 3 or 4 holes, per Moen
  • Matching black soap dispenser included, per the listing
  • Lifetime limited finish warranty to the original homeowner
  • 1255 cartridge is a common Moen part
  • 1.5 gpm, so pots fill slower than a 1.8 gpm faucet
  • Warranty excludes damage from abrasive, alcohol or solvent cleaners
  • Hose weight needs a clear zone under the sink
  • Soap dispenser uses one deck hole

Verdict: The matte black faucet to buy for most kitchens: it fits nearly any hole layout and carries a lifetime finish warranty.

Best Spray Options

Kohler Simplice K-596-BL Matte Black Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet

Single handle, pull-down · three functions: stream, Sweep spray, Boost (30% more flow) · DockNetik magnetic docking · ProMotion braided hose · MasterClean sprayface · temperature memory · 1.5 gpm at 60 psi · 9 in. spout reach · single-hole or three-hole (escutcheon included) · ceramic disc valve · Faucet Lifetime Limited Warranty (finish term for Matte Black: see below)

Kohler’s Simplice gives the most spray choices here. The touch control switches between a stream, Kohler’s Sweep spray, which Kohler calls “a wide, forceful blade of water,” and Boost, which Kohler says raises the flow by 30% at the press of a button. The base flow is 1.5 gpm at 60 psi. The DockNetik magnet holds the sprayhead on the spout, and the ProMotion hose has a swiveling ball joint. Kohler lists BL as Matte Black among its finish codes and says Kohler finishes resist corrosion and tarnishing.

For the install, Kohler says it fits single-hole or three-hole sinks, with the escutcheon plate included, and ships with flexible supply lines and an installation ring. The drawing shows a 2-1/2 in. maximum deck. For a thicker counter, Kohler lists an optional 1012715 Kitchen Faucet Deep Rough-In Kit. Temperature memory means the faucet turns back on at the temperature you last used. The spout reaches 9 in. Kohler’s faucet warranty sheet says cleaners with abrasive cleansers, ammonia, bleach, acids, waxes, alcohol or solvents not recommended for Kohler finishes void the warranty. Its footnotes also put some painted or powder-coated finishes on a one-year warranty, and the sheet does not say which group Matte Black falls in. If the finish term matters to you, ask Kohler (1-800-456-4537) before you buy.

  • Stream, Sweep spray and Boost on one sprayhead
  • Magnetic docking, per Kohler
  • Escutcheon for three-hole sinks included
  • Optional deep rough-in kit for thick counters
  • 1.5 gpm base flow
  • Warranty voids with abrasives, ammonia, bleach, acids, waxes, alcohol or solvents, per Kohler
  • Single or three holes only; no four-hole option listed
  • Kohler’s warranty does not say whether Matte Black gets the lifetime finish term

Verdict: The pick if you want more than stream and spray, in matte black, on a single- or three-hole sink.

Best Commercial-Style Black Faucet

KRAUS Bolden KPF-1610MB Matte Black Commercial-Style Faucet

Open-coil spring spout · 18-3/4 in. tall, 6-1/4 in. spout height, 8-5/8 in. reach · 180° swivel · 1.8 gpm at 60 psi · two-function sprayhead with 16 in. hose · 35 mm ceramic cartridge · 26.5 in. integrated nylon waterlines, 3/8 in. compression · 1-3/8 to 1-1/2 in. hole · deck plate optional, sold separately · lifetime limited structure and finish warranty

The Bolden is the spring-spout look in matte black. KRAUS lists it at 18-3/4 in. tall with a 6-1/4 in. spout height and an 8-5/8 in. reach, swiveling 180°. It flows 1.8 gpm at 60 psi, the most of the four picks, and the sprayhead switches between stream and spray on a 16 in. hose. Its FAQ says the toggle stays in spray mode until the water is shut off, then reverts to stream. The waterlines are 26.5 in. nylon lines built in, with 3/8 in. compression ends. KRAUS’s FAQ says the hole should be 1-3/8 to 1-1/2 in. and that the deck plate is optional and not included. For more spring-spout faucets, including the Kohler Purist and Moen Nolia in matte black, see our commercial-style kitchen faucet guide.

Two cautions from KRAUS’s own documents. First, deck thickness: the spec sheet says 3-3/8 in. maximum, but the FAQ on the product page says 1.5 in. If your counter is thicker than 1-1/2 in., ask KRAUS before you buy. Second, the spec sheet says pull-down faucets should never be connected to portable dishwashers, because pressure swings can rupture the hose. The KRAUS warranty covers the structure and finish for as long as the original buyer lives in the house where it was installed. It covers the sprayhead and hoses for 1 year and the cartridge for 5 years, when bought from an authorized KRAUS dealer. Plumber’s note: at 18-3/4 in. tall, check the height under any cabinet or window sill before you order.

  • 1.8 gpm, the highest flow of the four
  • Spring-spout commercial look in matte black
  • Clear finish-care rules in KRAUS’s guide
  • Lifetime structure and finish warranty, per KRAUS
  • 18-3/4 in. tall; check cabinet and window clearance
  • KRAUS lists two different maximum deck thicknesses
  • Deck plate sold separately
  • Sprayhead and hoses covered 1 year only

Verdict: The pick for a tall, commercial-style black faucet over a deep sink, if the height clears your cabinets.

Best Simple Install

American Standard Southport 7441300.243 Matte Black Pull-Down Faucet

Single handle, pull-down · stream, spray and pause · 28 mm ceramic disc cartridge · memory position valving · two integral check valves · 1.8 gpm · 35 in. braided supply hoses, 3/8 in. compression · 1-3/8 to 1-1/2 in. mounting hole · deck plate for 1-, 2- or 3-hole sinks included (listing) · limited lifetime warranty on function and finish (product page)

The Southport is the straightforward pick. American Standard’s sheet lists a metal body and handle, a pull-down spray with stream, spray and pause, a washerless 28 mm ceramic disc cartridge, and two integral check valves to stop backflow. It flows 1.8 gpm. Memory position valving lets you shut it off and turn it back on at the same temperature. The 243 suffix is Matte Black on the finish chart. American Standard’s product page lists a limited lifetime warranty on function and finish.

The install is simple. The owner’s manual covers mounting with or without the escutcheon: putty under the escutcheon plate if you use it, no putty without it. A locknut with tightening screws is worked around evenly from below. The 35 in. supply hoses are color coded, red to hot and blue to cold, with 3/8 in. compression ends. American Standard says to tighten them with a wrench but not over-tighten, and to loop extra length so it does not kink. The sheet calls for a 1-3/8 to 1-1/2 in. mounting hole, and the product page lists a maximum deck of 43 mm (about 1-11/16 in., our arithmetic), or 51 mm (2 in.) with the escutcheon.

  • Deck plate for 1-, 2- or 3-hole sinks, per the listing
  • Color-coded 35 in. supply hoses
  • Two built-in check valves, per American Standard
  • Limited lifetime function and finish warranty, per American Standard
  • Thinnest deck limit here: 43 mm, or 51 mm with the escutcheon
  • Strictest care rule: no soaps at all, per the manual
  • Stream and spray only, plus pause
  • 35 in. hoses; longer runs need extra parts, per American Standard

Verdict: The pick for a simple black pull-down on a standard counter, with the hoses and deck plate in the box.

Before You Buy

  1. Count and measure the holes. Note the hole count, the hole diameter and the deck thickness.
  2. Check the stops. Look for 3/8 in. compression outlets that shut off fully.
  3. Measure the height. Measure from the deck to the cabinet or window above, especially for the 18-3/4 in. KRAUS.
  4. Read the care rule. Match your cleaning products to the maker’s list before the faucet goes in.
  5. Keep the paperwork. Moen asks for proof of purchase from the original buyer on warranty claims, and KRAUS ties its warranty to an authorized dealer. Save the receipt and register the faucet.

Installing a Black Kitchen Faucet

Moen’s instructions say to always turn the water supply off before removing the old faucet. Clean the deck, then set the new faucet with its gasket or deck plate. On the American Standard, use putty under the escutcheon plate only if you use the plate, and none without it. Tighten the mounting nut evenly from below, connect hot to hot and cold to cold, and on a pull-down, clamp the hose weight where the maker marks it. Moen says to put it just above the start of the hose loop on the side with the locator mark. Turn the water on, check every connection for leaks, and follow the maker’s steps for flushing debris from the lines. The full job is in how to install a kitchen faucet.

Plumber’s note: black finishes show tool marks. Wrap wrench jaws or use a basin wrench under the deck, and keep pliers off the visible finish. If the stops are seized or the supply pipe is corroded, that is the point to call a plumber.

FAQ

How do you clean a matte black kitchen faucet?

Follow the maker, because they differ. American Standard’s manual says to rinse with clear water and dry with a soft cotton flannel cloth, and not to use soaps, acid, polish or abrasives. KRAUS allows the mild cleaners in its guide but says to spot-test first and never use abrasive powders, bleach, ammonia, alcohol, vinegar or chlorine. Moen’s warranty excludes damage from cleaners with abrasives, alcohol or organic solvents. Wiping the faucet dry after use is the common thread.

Does a matte black faucet finish wear off?

Each maker here warrants its finish. Moen covers finish defects for life for the original homeowner, KRAUS covers structure and finish while the original buyer lives in the home, American Standard lists a limited lifetime warranty on function and finish, and Kohler’s sheet names its Faucet Lifetime Limited Warranty, though that warranty’s footnotes put some painted or powder-coated finishes on a one-year term. Those warranties also exclude damage from the wrong cleaners, so the cleaning rules matter as much as the finish.

Will a black kitchen faucet fit my 3-hole sink?

Usually, with a deck plate. The Moen Haelyn installs through 1 to 4 holes, the Kohler Simplice includes an escutcheon for three holes, and the American Standard listing includes a deck plate for 1, 2 or 3 holes. The KRAUS Bolden needs a separate deck plate. Measure your holes first; our kitchen faucet hole size guide shows how.

What supply connections do black kitchen faucets use?

All four picks here use 3/8 in. compression connections to the shutoff valves. Moen says its lines accept standard 3/8 in. tubing, American Standard ships 35 in. color-coded hoses, and KRAUS uses 26.5 in. built-in nylon lines. If your stops are older or do not have 3/8 in. compression outlets, replace them before the new faucet goes in.

Which black kitchen faucet has the strongest flow?

By the maker ratings, the KRAUS Bolden and American Standard Southport flow 1.8 gpm, while the Moen Haelyn and Kohler Simplice flow 1.5 gpm. Kohler says its Boost button raises the flow by 30%, and Moen has its own Power Boost button. Low flow at every faucet is usually a supply problem, not the faucet; see how to fix low water pressure.

Bottom Line

A black faucet is a regular kitchen faucet with one more rule to follow: the maker’s cleaning instructions. The Moen Haelyn 87627BL fits the most sinks and carries a lifetime finish warranty. The Kohler Simplice adds spray options, the KRAUS Bolden gives the commercial look, and the American Standard Southport is the simple install. Match the holes, deck thickness and stops before you buy, wipe it dry, and keep abrasives and harsh chemicals off the finish.
