A washing machine outlet box is a recessed box in the wall that holds the hot and cold valves for the washer hoses and the standpipe for the drain hose. It replaces exposed hose bibs and a loose drain pipe with one neat opening. The main choice is how the box connects to your supply pipe: push-to-connect, copper, PEX or CPVC. For the hoses that connect to it, see our washing machine hose guide.

SharkBite 25031: push-to-connect with arresters

Choose the SharkBite 25031 if you want to connect without crimping, gluing or soldering. SharkBite’s product page (sharkbite.com) lists a one-piece recessed box with quarter-turn shut-offs and 3/4-inch washing machine hose outlets, 1/2-inch push-to-connect inlets compatible with PEX, copper, CPVC and PE-RT, and mounting brackets for the left, right or center of a stud bay without extra framing.

The 25031 includes water hammer arresters; SharkBite’s 24763 is the same box without them. The page lists left, right or center drain compatibility, a snap-on faceplate for drywall up to 3/4 inch, and removal with a disconnect clip or tongs sold separately. On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com was in stock with model 25031. For more on SharkBite fittings, see our push-to-connect fittings guide.

Oatey Quadtro 38529: copper, any drain position

Choose the Oatey Quadtro 38529 for a copper supply and flexible drain placement. Oatey’s Quadtro product page (oatey.com) lists part 38529 as the 1/4-turn copper washing machine outlet box, display box. Oatey says the Quadtro is made for residential or commercial work where the valves and drain are recessed into the wall, that its lock-and-load valves allow left, right or center drain positioning, and that the box includes the support brackets to mount the supply from the top or bottom.

The Quadtro line comes in 27 variations, including PEX, CPVC, compression and hammer-arrester versions, so confirm the part number before you order. On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com showed limited stock with model 38529.

Sioux Chief OxBox 696-2313XF: PEX crimp with arresters

Choose the OxBox 696-2313XF for an F1807 PEX crimp system with arresters and a frame. Sioux Chief’s 696 series spec sheet (cdn.siouxchief.com) decodes the model: 2313 means with arresters, X means F1807 PEX, and F means the standard pack with supply and drain boxes, frame, bracket and debris cover. The sheet lists plated quarter-turn valves with 3/4-inch male hose thread outlets; on arrester models the two handles can be turned together or separately.

It lists a separate supply box and drain box joined with a U-clip, mounting on or between studs with supply lines from top or bottom, a 2-inch Schedule 40 drain hub, an 18-inch bracket, an 11-1/2 by 7-1/4-inch frame and a 3-1/2-inch box depth. The leading dash in the model means standard brass valves rather than the G no-lead option. On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by EverScale Partners showed limited stock with model 696-2313XF.

Sioux Chief OxBox 696-G2303CR: CPVC rough-in pack

Choose the 696-G2303CR for a CPVC supply and a rough-in pack without arresters. On the same Sioux Chief sheet (cdn.siouxchief.com), G means no-lead brass valves, 2303 means no arresters, C means a male CPVC connection, and R means the rough-in pack: supply and drain box, bracket and debris cover, without the frame. The frame is sold separately as the 696-2F double-box frame.

It shares the series dimensions and the 2-inch drain hub. On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by ZenSupplyInc showed limited stock with model 696-G2303CR. If you need arresters, see our water hammer arrester guide.

Match the box to your supply pipe

Pick the box that fits the pipe already in the wall. SharkBite’s push-to-connect inlets accept PEX, copper, CPVC and PE-RT. Oatey 38529 is the copper version of the Quadtro. The Sioux Chief sheet lists connection codes for CPVC, Everloc+, MIP, sweat or press, and three PEX standards: F3347, F1960 and F1807. F1807 is the crimp-ring system; see our PEX crimp tool guide. If your house uses expansion PEX (F1960), choose a box made for it.

Do you need water hammer arresters?

Washing machines close their valves quickly, which can cause a bang in the pipes called water hammer. SharkBite says its arrester version reduces noisy pipes. The SharkBite 25031 and Sioux Chief 696-2313XF include arresters; the Oatey 38529 and Sioux Chief 696-G2303CR do not. Choosing a box with arresters built in avoids adding separate arresters later.

Drain and installation

The drain hose goes into a standpipe below the box. Sioux Chief lists a 2-inch Schedule 40 hub on its drain box. SharkBite and Oatey list left, right or center drain positions, so you can place the box to suit the stud bay. Plan the height so the washer hoses reach the valves and the drain hose reaches the standpipe; see our washing machine drain hose guide. Installing a new box means opening the wall and connecting supply and drain lines, and local codes may require a permit.
