Which to buy: for a K-400 on 1-1/2 to 3 in. lines, the RIDGID C-32IW (87582) 3/8 in. x 75 ft integral wound cable, the middle length of the three 3/8 in. IW cables RIDGID lists for the K-400. For a K-45 on 1-1/4 to 2 in. lines, the RIDGID C-1IC (56782) 5/16 in. x 25 ft inner core cable, which RIDGID lists with a bulb auger on the end. The C-32IW is listed as cable only; RIDGID sells its cutting tools (T-202, T-205 and others) as separate catalog items. Neither link is a machine or a bundle.

Quick answer: Order the cable RIDGID lists for your machine and your line size. The K-400 drum machine takes RIDGID’s integral wound (IW) cables: 3/8 in. (C-31IW, C-32IW, C-33IW) for 1-1/2 to 3 in. lines, or 1/2 in. (C-44IW, C-45IW) for 3 to 4 in. lines. Its manual says the torque limiter is designed for RIDGID 3/8 and 1/2 in. IW cable and may not protect other cables. The K-45 sink machine takes 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 in. cables from its own list, starting with 1/4 and 5/16 in. for 3/4 to 1-1/2 in. lines.

Catalog numbers and line sizes come from RIDGID’s K-400 and K-45 operator’s manuals (accessory tables checked visually) and RIDGID’s K-400 specification sheet, read October 10, 2026. We have not tested these cables. The two buy links are the exact RIDGID 87582 (C-32IW) and 56782 (C-1IC) cables whose Amazon offers were checked on October 10, 2026 as new, sold by Amazon.com and in stock; offers change, so check that the listing names the catalog number. Other cables on this page are not linked.

From the K-400 manual’s IW cable table and the line sizes on RIDGID’s K-400 sheet, which gives a reach of 100 ft with 3/8 in. cable and 75 ft with 1/2 in. cable. Repair ends: 91037 (3/8 in.) and 91042 (1/2 in.).

The manual’s tools table lists the T-202, T-217, T-205, T-206 and T-211 tools as fitting the C-31IW, C-32IW, C-33IW, C-44IW and C-45IW cables.

C-562250; 35 ft with bulb auger3/8 in.
From the K-45 manual’s cable table. RIDGID warns that only accessories designed and recommended for the K-45, such as these, should be used on it. The table prints catalog 96037 as model C-61C, while the manual’s text and its cable kit list call the 3/8 in. cable C-6IC; we show the table’s spelling and have not confirmed which is correct, so order by catalog number 96037.

The K-45 manual pairs each size with a line size: 1/4 in. and 5/16 in. cable for 3/4 to 1-1/2 in. lines, 5/16 in. inner core cable for 1-1/4 to 2 in. lines, and 3/8 in. cable for 1-1/4 to 2-1/2 in. lines. It gives reach of up to 45 ft with the 5/16 in. cables and up to 30 ft with 3/8 in. cable.

Loading a new cable

Both manuals put these steps under maintenance and set conditions first. The K-400 manual says the FOR/OFF/REV switch should be OFF and the machine unplugged before any maintenance, and to wear safety glasses and other appropriate protective equipment. The K-45 manual says to unplug the machine and to wear safety glasses and RIDGID drain cleaning gloves. Both warn that a new cable is under tension in its package and could strike you. Follow the full steps in your machine’s manual (linked under Sources); in short:

  • K-400: uncoil the new cable completely first, feed about 24 in. through the guide tube so it coils into the drum counter-clockwise, and clamp the end at least 3 in. past the cable clamp.
  • K-45: uncoil the new cable completely, put a 15 to 30 degree bend about 1 in. from the drum end, and coil it into the inner drum clockwise.

When to skip

  • Skip the K-400 for tree roots. RIDGID’s manual says the K-400 is not designed to remove root blockages; a longer cable or a different head does not change that.
  • Skip non-IW cable on a K-400 if you rely on its torque limiter; RIDGID says it may not protect other cables.
  • Skip 1/2 in. cable for lines under 3 in. on the K-400, and 3/8 in. cable for lines over 2-1/2 in. on the K-45; neither manual lists those uses.
  • Skip cables from other machines on the K-45; its manual warns that accessories made for other tools can be hazardous on it.
