Best American Standard Toilets (2026): Champion, Cadet

Plumbing Picks is reader-supported. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

Quick answer from a licensed plumber: Buy the American Standard Champion PRO 211AA104 for most bathrooms: a 4-inch flush valve, a 2-3/8-inch trapway, a 1,000 g MaP score and 10 years on mechanical parts in a home. Its bare listing was sold by a third party when we checked, so we link the 610AA002 bundle, the Champion PRO with seat and wax ring. For a standard-height seat, the Cadet PRO 215CA104, which we name but do not link. For the seat and wax ring in the box, the Edgemere 608AA007. For a basic chair-height toilet, the Colony 3. For a small room, the one-piece Compact Cadet 3.

Our pick for most bathrooms: the American Standard Champion PRO, with American Standard’s 4-inch flush valve. We link it as the 610AA002 bundle, the Champion PRO with seat and wax ring; the bare 211AA104 listing was sold by a third-party seller on October 5, 2026, so it is not linked. Check the Champion PRO 610AA002 bundle on Amazon

American Standard sells toilets under several collection names, and the names hide the differences that matter: the size of the flush valve and trapway, the seat height, and the warranty, which American Standard sets by collection. This page is for buyers who have settled on an American Standard toilet. Our best toilet guide ranks toilets across brands. Every pick here is 1.28 gallons per flush and 12-inch rough-in, and every spec comes from American Standard’s own sheets, product pages and warranty, plus the MaP list.

The bare Champion PRO 211AA104 and the Cadet PRO 215CA104 are not linked: when we checked on October 5, 2026, their Amazon listings were sold by a third-party seller. All five carry a lifetime limited warranty on the china in a home.

How to Choose an American Standard Toilet

Flush valve and trapway

American Standard’s sheets give two numbers worth comparing. The Champion PRO has a 4-inch flush valve and a 2-3/8-inch trapway. The Cadet PRO and Compact Cadet 3 have a 3-inch valve and a 2-1/8-inch trapway, and the Edgemere and Colony 3 a 3-inch valve and a 2-inch trapway. MaP scores the Champion PRO 211AA104 and Cadet PRO 215CA.104 the same, at 1,000 g, the highest score on that list, so MaP does not separate them. American Standard markets the Champion PRO as engineered to prevent clogs, and its sheet lists the bigger valve and trapway, which is why it is our pick for a house with a history of clogs.

Plumber’s note: the flush valve also decides your repair parts later. The Champion’s 4-inch valve takes American Standard parts, not a universal 2- or 3-inch flapper. Our guides to American Standard flapper replacement and American Standard fill valve replacement cover which part fits which collection.

Seat height

American Standard calls its chair-height bowls Right Height. The Champion PRO, Colony 3 and Compact Cadet 3 are 16-1/2 inches to the rim on American Standard’s drawings, and American Standard says the Champion PRO and Edgemere measure 17 inches with a seat. The Cadet PRO 215CA104 is standard height, 15 inches to the rim. For more on the trade-off, see comfort height vs standard toilets.

Warranty: the collection sets it

American Standard’s 2025 Lifetime Limited Warranty for toilets covers the china for life in a home. Mechanical parts get 10 years for Champion, Champion PRO, VorMax and a few other collections; 5 years for Cadet PRO, Cadet 3, Edgemere and Colony 3; and 2 years for Colony, Mainstream and Reliant. Seats included with a toilet get 1 year. Four details in the fine print matter:

  • Rentals count as commercial. The warranty defines commercial use to include apartments and other rental units, and commercial use gets 1 year on the china and 1 year on the parts.
  • Original purchaser only. The warranty is not transferable. The one exception it gives: a toilet bought by a plumber, contractor or other service provider is covered for the first property owner it was bought for.
  • In-tank cleaners are not covered. The warranty does not cover damage caused by in-tank cleaners.
  • Keep the receipt. The warranty is void if the toilet was bought from an unauthorized seller, and a claim needs proof of purchase. The document does not list authorized sellers, so ask American Standard if the warranty matters to you.

Other American Standard toilets we cover

Top Pick: Best American Standard for Most Bathrooms

American Standard Champion PRO 211AA104 Two-Piece Right Height Elongated Toilet

1.28 gpf, EPA WaterSense · 4 in. Accelerator flush valve · 2-3/8 in. fully glazed trapway · MaP 1,000 g · Right Height, 16-1/2 in. to the rim (17 in. with a seat, per American Standard) · elongated · 12 in. rough-in · EverClean surface · EZ-Install kit · lifetime limited warranty on china, 10 years on mechanical parts (home use) · seat and supply sold separately

The Champion PRO is the American Standard to buy when clogs are the worry. American Standard’s sheet lists the biggest flush hardware of the five picks here: a 4-inch piston-action Accelerator flush valve and a fully glazed 2-3/8-inch trapway, against 3 inches and 2-1/8 inches on the Cadet PRO here. MaP lists the 211AA104 at 1,000 g on 1.28 gallons. American Standard also says it has been tested to flush a bucket of golf balls in a single flush; that is the maker’s claim, not a test of ours.

It is a Right Height bowl, 16-1/2 inches to the rim on American Standard’s drawing and 17 inches with a seat on its product page. The sheet says it meets ADA guidelines and ANSI A117.1, with a note to check local codes. Under American Standard’s 2025 toilet warranty, Champion PRO toilets get a lifetime warranty on the china and 10 years on mechanical parts in a home, twice the 5 years for Cadet PRO, Edgemere and Colony 3. The bare 211AA104 is not linked: when we checked on October 5, 2026, its Amazon listing was sold by a third-party seller. The button below is the 610AA002 bundle, American Standard’s Champion PRO two-piece chair height elongated toilet with a slow-close seat, a matte black trip lever and a wax ring in the box. American Standard’s page for that bundle lists 5 years on mechanical parts, which does not match the 2025 warranty’s 10 years for Champion PRO; keep the receipt and ask American Standard if it matters.

  • 4 in. flush valve and 2-3/8 in. trapway, per American Standard
  • MaP 1,000 g on 1.28 gallons
  • 10-year mechanical warranty in a home, per the 2025 warranty
  • Bundle with seat and wax ring available
  • The 4 in. valve takes American Standard parts, not a universal flapper
  • Seat sold separately on the 211AA104
  • The bundle page and the warranty disagree on mechanical coverage

Verdict: The American Standard to buy for most bathrooms: the largest flush valve on this page and the longest mechanical warranty of the five.

Best Standard-Height American Standard

American Standard Cadet PRO 215CA104 Two-Piece Standard Height Elongated Toilet

1.28 gpf, EPA WaterSense · Cadet flushing system, 3 in. flush valve · 2-1/8 in. fully glazed trapway · MaP 1,000 g · standard height, 15 in. to the rim on American Standard’s drawing · elongated · 12 in. rough-in · EverClean surface · EZ-Install kit · lifetime limited warranty on china, 5 years on mechanical parts (home use) · seat and supply sold separately

American Standard calls the Cadet plumber tested and plumber approved, and this Cadet PRO keeps the bowl at standard height. American Standard’s drawing puts the rim 15 inches off the floor, 1-1/2 inches lower than the Right Height picks (our arithmetic). That suits kids, shorter adults and anyone who wants their feet flat. It has a 3-inch flush valve, a fully glazed 2-1/8-inch trapway, a PowerWash rim and EverClean surface, and MaP lists the 215CA.104 at 1,000 g, the same score as the Champion PRO.

The trade-off is the warranty: American Standard’s 2025 warranty gives Cadet PRO toilets 5 years on mechanical parts in a home, half the Champion PRO’s 10. The spec sheet lists the overall size at 30-1/8 by 17-3/8 inches and 28-7/8 inches tall. Its sheet does not carry the ADA statement that the Champion PRO sheet does, so for an accessible bathroom look at our ADA chair height toilet picks instead.

Not linked: when we checked on October 5, 2026, the Amazon listing for the Cadet PRO 215CA104 was sold by a third-party seller.

  • Lower 15 in. rim for kids and shorter adults
  • MaP 1,000 g on 1.28 gallons
  • Metal trip lever and metal shank fill valve, per American Standard
  • EZ-Install kit included
  • 5-year mechanical warranty, half the Champion PRO’s
  • No ADA statement on its sheet
  • Seat sold separately

Verdict: The American Standard for anyone who wants a standard-height seat with the same MaP score as the Champion PRO.

Best Kit With Seat and Wax Ring

American Standard Edgemere 608AA007 Two-Piece Chair Height Elongated Toilet With Seat and Wax Ring

1.28 gpf, EPA WaterSense · 3 in. flapper flush valve · 2 in. fully glazed trapway · chair height, 17 in. with the seat, per American Standard · elongated · 12 in. rough-in · slow-close seat, wax ring and matte black trip lever included · EverClean surface · lifetime limited warranty on china, 5 years on mechanical parts, 1 year on the seat

The Edgemere bundle is the one-box option: American Standard lists the tank with a matte black trip lever, the bowl with color-matched caps, a slow-close seat and a wax ring. That covers most of what a toilet swap needs except the supply line. American Standard says it measures 17 inches tall with the seat and meets ADA requirements, and it flushes 1.28 gallons through a 3-inch flapper valve and a fully glazed 2-inch trapway.

Two cautions. First, the trapway is 2 inches, narrower than the Champion PRO’s 2-3/8 inches. Second, we did not find this exact bundle model on the September 24 MaP list; MaP scores several other Edgemere bowl and tank combinations at 1,000 g, but we cannot confirm this one is the same pairing. American Standard’s page lists a lifetime warranty on the china, 5 years on mechanical parts and 1 year on the seat, which matches its 2025 warranty for Edgemere.

  • Seat, wax ring and trip lever in the box, per American Standard
  • Chair height, 17 in. with seat
  • ADA compliant, per American Standard’s page
  • Lifetime warranty on the china
  • 2 in. trapway, narrower than the Champion PRO
  • This bundle model is not on the September 24 MaP list
  • Supply line sold separately

Verdict: The pick if you want the toilet, seat and wax ring in one order and do not need the Champion PRO’s bigger flush hardware.

Best Basic American Standard

American Standard Colony 3 250AA104 Two-Piece Chair Height Elongated Toilet

1.28 gpf, EPA WaterSense · 3 in. flush valve · 2 in. fully glazed trapway · PowerWash rim · chair height, 16-1/2 in. to the rim · elongated · 12 in. rough-in · 9 x 8 in. water surface · lifetime limited warranty on china; mechanical warranty listed as 5 years (page, 2025 warranty) or 2 years (2023 sheet) · seat, wax ring and supply sold separately

Colony 3 is American Standard’s plain, chair-height two-piece. Its sheet lists a 3-inch flush valve with a 2-inch trapway, a PowerWash rim, a 16-1/2-inch rim height and a 9 x 8-inch water surface, and it carries the same ADA and ANSI A117.1 statement as the Champion PRO sheet, with the note to check local codes. American Standard sells it as a combination bowl and tank, with the seat, wax ring and supply line bought separately.

The paperwork disagrees on the warranty. American Standard’s 2023 spec sheet (marked 4/23) lists a limited 2-year warranty on mechanical parts, while its product page and its 2025 toilet warranty list Colony 3 at 5 years. MaP lists the 250AA104 at 800 g on 1.28 gallons, below the 1,000 g of the Champion PRO and Cadet PRO here. It is the American Standard to consider when you want a basic chair-height toilet; for flush power, the Champion PRO has the bigger valve and trapway.

  • Chair height, 16-1/2 in. to the rim
  • PowerWash rim, per American Standard
  • Lifetime warranty on the china
  • Right-hand lever version (250AA105) on the same sheet
  • MaP 800 g, below the Champion PRO and Cadet PRO
  • American Standard documents disagree on mechanical warranty (2 vs 5 years)
  • 2 in. trapway
  • Seat, wax ring and supply sold separately

Verdict: A basic chair-height American Standard; buy the Champion PRO instead if clogs have been a problem.

Best One-Piece for a Small Bathroom

American Standard Compact Cadet 3 FloWise 2403.813 One-Piece Right Height Elongated Toilet With Seat

1.28 gpf, EPA WaterSense · Cadet 3 flushing system, 3 in. flush valve · 2-1/8 in. trapway, internal trapway fully glazed · one-piece · compact elongated, 28-1/2 in. long · Right Height, 16-1/2 in. to the rim · 12 in. rough-in · slow-close seat included · right-hand trip lever · EverClean surface · lifetime limited warranty on china, 5 years on mechanical parts (home use)

For a small bathroom, American Standard’s sheet says this compact elongated Right Height bowl fits in the same space as a round-front toilet. The sheet gives the overall size as 28-1/2 inches long, 15 inches wide and 28-1/2 inches tall. That is 1-3/4 inches shorter than the Champion PRO’s 30-1/4 inches (our arithmetic). It is one piece, so there is no gap between tank and bowl to clean, and a slow-close seat with EverClean surface comes with it.

This listing is the 2403.813, with the trip lever on the right side; American Standard’s sheet lists it as the same toilet as the 2403.128 except for the lever side. It flushes 1.28 gallons through a 3-inch flush valve and a 2-1/8-inch trapway, and the product page says the Right Height bowl is ADA compliant. The September 24 MaP list carries the 2403.813 without a score; it scores the left-lever 2403.128 at 1,000 g. For the one-piece Champion 4, which has the 4-inch valve, see our best toilet guide.

  • Compact elongated bowl that fits a round-front space, per American Standard
  • One-piece with a slow-close seat included
  • Right Height, 16-1/2 in. to the rim
  • Lifetime warranty on the china
  • Right-hand trip lever on this listing
  • No MaP score for the 2403.813 itself
  • 5-year mechanical warranty

Verdict: The American Standard for a tight bathroom that still wants an elongated, chair-height seat.

Before You Buy

  1. Measure the rough-in. American Standard’s sheets say these toilets are designed to rough in at a minimum of 12 inches from the finished wall to the center of the outlet. Measure from the finished wall, not the baseboard. Our rough-in guide shows how.
  2. Measure the room depth. The four American Standard sheets here give lengths from 28-1/2 inches (Compact Cadet 3) to 30-1/4 inches (Champion PRO).
  3. Pick the height. 15 inches to the rim for the Cadet PRO 215CA104, 16-1/2 for the Right Height and chair height picks, before the seat.
  4. Count the parts. Only the Edgemere 608AA007, the Champion PRO 610AA002 bundle and the Compact Cadet 3 include a seat. Every pick needs a supply line, and all but the two bundles need a wax ring.
  5. Rental property? Read the commercial-use terms above before you count on the home warranty.

Installing an American Standard Toilet

The job is a standard toilet swap: shut off the water, drain the tank and bowl, pull the old toilet, scrape the flange, set a new wax ring, then set and bolt the bowl. American Standard’s Champion PRO and Cadet PRO sheets say an EZ-Install kit with color-matched bowl caps comes with the toilet. Every sheet here says the supply is not included and must be ordered separately. Our toilet replacement guide walks through the whole job, and our wax ring guide covers the seal.

Plumber’s note: if the flange sits below the finished floor, fix that before you set any toilet; see toilet flange too low. If the shutoff valve will not close all the way, replace it while the old toilet is off. Moving the drain or the supply is a job for a licensed plumber; ask your local building department whether it needs a permit.
