An American Standard shower valve is a Flash rough valve plus a trim kit. For the valve, pick the Flash RU101, or the RU101SS if you want built-in shutoff stops. For the trim, pick the Colony Pro TU075508 for four finish choices, or the Reliant 3 TU385508 for a round trim in two finishes.

American Standard’s current shower valves split into the Flash rough valve body that goes in the wall and a trim kit that includes the cartridge, handle, wall plate, spout and showerhead. The sheets say trim and rough must be ordered separately. Any of the TU trims here fits the Flash bodies, so the choice is the connection type in the wall and the trim style you want.
American Standard Flash RU101: the universal rough valve
Choose the Flash RU101 for a copper or threaded supply. American Standard’s Flash rough valve spec sheet (lixil.cdn.celum.cloud) lists a cast DZR brass body with 1/2-inch universal inlets and outlets (copper sweat or male NPT), a pre-installed flush plug for testing and flushing the lines without the cartridge, a stainless retaining ring with flats, back-to-back capability so hot and cold can be reversed, a flat back for mounting to a brace and a plaster guard that guides the rough-in and supports thin-wall installs.
It lists a rough-in range of 1-3/4 to 2-3/4 inches from the finished wall to the back of the valve.
The sheet says the valve can be tested with the flush plug in place using air at 200 psi or water at 300 psi. Other Flash bodies swap the connections: RU102 for press-fit stub-outs, RU107 for PEX crimp, RU108 for PEX cold expansion and RU109 for CPVC.
On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com showed In Stock with model RU101.

American Standard Flash RU101SS: with screwdriver stops
Choose the RU101SS if you want shutoffs built into the valve. The same Flash spec sheet (lixil.cdn.celum.cloud) lists the RU101SS as the RU101 body with screwdriver stops and the same 1/2-inch universal connections. Stops let you shut off water to the shower at the valve when you service the cartridge, instead of at the main. The drawing shows it slightly deeper than the RU101 (4-7/8 vs 4-7/16 inches).

American Standard Colony Pro TU075508: tub and shower trim
Choose the Colony Pro TU075508 for a complete tub-and-shower trim in four finishes. American Standard’s spec sheet (lixil.cdn.celum.cloud) lists a double ceramic pressure balance cartridge with integrated check valves, an adjustable hot limit safety stop that limits how much hot water can mix with cold, back-to-back capability, a water-saving showerhead with a 1.75 gpm maximum, a metal slip-on diverter spout and a metal lever handle. It lists compliance with ASSE 1016/ASME A112.18.1016/CSA B125.16, rated at 1.3 gpm, and ADA guidelines.
The drawing marks 74 inches for head clearance, notes the shower arm height from the finished floor is usually between 65 and 78 inches, and shows the spout 4 inches above the tub rim. The sheet lists polished chrome, Legacy Bronze, brushed nickel and matte black, and says it saves 30% water. The valve body is not included.
On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com showed In Stock with model TU075508.002, polished chrome.

American Standard Reliant 3 TU385508: simpler trim
Choose the Reliant 3 TU385508 for a round 7-1/2-inch trim with the same cartridge. American Standard’s spec sheet (lixil.cdn.celum.cloud) lists the same double ceramic pressure balance cartridge, integrated check valves, adjustable hot limit safety stop and ASSE 1016 rating as the Colony Pro, with a 3-3/4-inch water-saving showerhead at 1.75 gpm, a metal slip-on diverter spout and a metal lever. It lists polished chrome and PVD brushed nickel, and an optional M970649 deep rough-in kit.

Pressure balance and the hot limit stop
Both trims use a pressure balance cartridge, which American Standard says maintains a constant output temperature in response to changes in relative hot and cold supply pressure. Both also have an adjustable hot limit stop. The sheets say the stop limits the amount of hot water allowed to mix with cold and reduces the risk of accidental scalding. Set it after installation following the trim instructions. Our pressure balancing vs thermostatic guide explains the two valve types, and our limit stop guide covers a shower that will not get hot enough.
Replacing an older American Standard valve
The TU trims here are listed for use with Flash rough valve bodies. Before buying trim only, identify the valve already in the wall. If it is an older body, you may need a cartridge from our American Standard shower cartridge guide rather than a new Flash body. A new Flash body means opening the wall and soldering, crimping or threading the supply connections.
The Flash sheet lists a plaster guard that acts as a rough-in guide, and a flush plug so the lines can be flushed and tested before the cartridge goes in. Both trim sheets also list a 2-3/4-inch maximum and 1-3/4-inch minimum rough-in depth, matching the Flash body.
Frequently asked questions
Does an American Standard shower trim kit include the valve?
No. The sheets say trim and rough valve must be ordered separately; the trim includes the cartridge.
What rough valve fits Colony Pro and Reliant 3 trims?
The Flash RU10_ bodies, such as the RU101 or RU101SS.
What connections does the Flash RU101 have?
1/2-inch universal inlets and outlets that take copper sweat or male NPT.
Do these valves prevent scalding?
They are pressure balance valves rated to ASSE 1016 with an adjustable hot limit stop that American Standard says reduces the risk of accidental scalding.
What is the rough-in depth?
American Standard lists 1-3/4 to 2-3/4 inches from the finished wall to the back of the Flash valve.
How we chose
This document-based guide makes no hands-on testing claim. We read American Standard spec sheets for the Flash RU10_ rough valve bodies, the Colony Pro TU0755xx trims and the Reliant 3 TU3855xx trims and inspected their drawings. On October 15, 2026, each linked standard new Amazon offer was sold by Amazon.com; we checked model, stock and add-to-cart. The TU075500 was left out because American Standard’s product page and spec sheet describe it differently. Read our selection method and about Plumbing Picks.
