Mansfield model numbers name two parts: the first number is the bowl and the second is the tank. A 135-3173 is a 135 elongated bowl with a 3173 tank. All four sheets list a 3-bolt SmartFasten tank-to-bowl connection, a Fluidmaster anti-siphon pilot fill valve, a 2-inch glazed trapway, a 2-1/2-inch trap seal, a 9 by 10-inch water surface, a MaP rating of 800 grams, a 20 to 80 psi water pressure range, and a limited lifetime warranty on the vitreous china with a one-year limited warranty on the tank trim.

Mansfield Alto 135-3173: 1.28 gpf

Choose the Alto 135-3173 for the lowest water use of the four on a standard 12-inch rough-in. Mansfield’s spec sheet (assets.edgenet.com) lists 1.28 gallons per flush, a 3-2-inch hybrid flapper flush valve, a color-match plastic trip lever on the left, a 12-inch rough-in and the high-efficiency toilet and WaterSense marks. Mansfield says it uses 20% less water than conventional toilets on its product page (mansfieldplumbing.com).

The drawing shows the bowl rim 15 inches from the floor, an overall height of 29-3/4 inches, a depth of 29-1/2 inches and a tank 19-3/4 inches wide. The 3173 tank also comes in variations on the sheet, including 3173RH with a right-hand lever and 3125 for a 14-inch rough-in.

On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com showed limited stock with model 135.3173.WHT, white. The Amazon bullets list a 14-3/4-inch bowl height; Mansfield’s drawing shows 15 inches. We go by Mansfield.

Mansfield Alto 135-160: 1.6 gpf, flush tower

Choose the Alto 135-160 for a 1.6 gpf flush with a flush tower instead of a flapper. Mansfield’s spec sheet (assets.edgenet.com) lists 1.6 gallons per flush, a 2-inch flush tower (Mansfield part 211-1112) with a 630-0030 replacement seal, a chrome-plated plastic trip lever on the left, and a 12-inch rough-in. The product page (mansfieldplumbing.com) calls it SmartFlush flushing technology.

A flush tower lifts straight up instead of hinging like a flapper. Mansfield lists the 630-0030 seal at its base as a replacement part. Check whether 1.6 gpf toilets are allowed for new installs in your state before you buy.

On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by ZenSupplyInc showed limited stock with model 135.160.WHT, white.

Mansfield Alto 135-160RH: right-hand lever

Choose the Alto 135-160RH if the tank lever needs to be on the right side. Mansfield’s spec sheet (assets.edgenet.com) lists the same 1.6 gpf, 2-inch flush tower and 12-inch rough-in as the 135-160, with a 40RH right-hand, front-mount chrome-plated trip lever. That helps when a wall, vanity or grab bar sits on the left side of the toilet. The sheet lists it in white.

Mansfield Alto 138-160: 10-inch rough-in

Choose the Alto 138-160 if the drain sits 10 inches from the wall. Mansfield’s spec sheet (assets.edgenet.com) lists a 138 elongated bowl for a 10-inch rough-in with the same 160 tank: 1.6 gpf, 2-inch flush tower and left-hand chrome trip lever. The drawing shows a 14-5/8-inch rim height, an overall height of 29-3/8 inches and a depth of 29-5/8 inches. Its 9 by 10-inch water surface, 2-inch trapway, 2-1/2-inch trap seal and 800-gram MaP rating match the 12-inch Alto models on their sheets.

On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com showed limited stock with model 138.160.WHT, white. Our 10-inch rough-in toilet guide compares it with other brands.

Check these before you order

  • Rough-in. Measure from the finished wall (not the baseboard) to the center of the closet bolts. 12 inches fits the 135 bowls; 10 inches fits the 138. Our rough-in size guide shows how.
  • Seat. Every sheet says the toilet seat is not included. Buy an elongated seat. See our toilet seat guide.
  • Supply line. The sheets list the fill valve less supply, with a 3/8-inch supply connection about 8 inches above the floor and 6 inches off center. Plan a new supply line.
  • Flush rate rules. Some states limit new toilets to 1.28 gpf. The 135-3173 is the 1.28 option here.
  • Lever side. Pick the RH model if something blocks the left side of the tank.

Replacement parts and weights on the sheets

Each Mansfield sheet lists the tank parts by number, which helps years later when something wears out. For the 135-3173: the 31 color-match trip lever, the 228 3-2-inch hybrid flapper flush valve, the 400A Fluidmaster fill valve (with the 2206 listed as a compatible replacement), the 630-0207 3-inch replacement flapper kit and the 160-LID tank lid. For the 135-160 and 138-160: the 40 chrome-plated trip lever, the 211-1112 flush tower, the 400A fill valve, the 630-0030 flush valve seal and the 160-LID lid. The 135-160RH uses a 40RH right-hand lever instead.

The sheets also list shipping weights: about 50 pounds for the 135 bowl, 49 pounds for the 138 bowl and 34 pounds for each tank. Mansfield lists separate shipping weights for the bowl and the tank, which bolt together with the SmartFasten 3-bolt connection. Plan for a second person to carry the bowl, and set the tank aside until the bowl is bolted down and level.

Which Mansfield toilet should you buy?

Start with your rough-in and your state’s flush rule. On a 12-inch rough-in where 1.28 gpf is required or preferred, the Alto 135-3173 is the pick. Where 1.6 gpf is allowed and you want a flush tower, the 135-160 or the right-hand 135-160RH fit. On a 10-inch rough-in, the 138-160 is the one. All four take the same Fluidmaster 400A fill valve, listed on each sheet, which keeps replacement parts simple. For other brands, see our toilet guide.
