Best Speakman Shower Head

Choose the Speakman Hotel S-2005-HB-E175 for its larger face and plastic body, or the Icon S-2252-E175 for solid brass construction and a compact face. Both checked polished-chrome models are rated at 1.75 GPM. Confirm the complete code, arm fit and valve compatibility before buying.

Hotel S-2005-HB-E175Plastic body; brass ball nut4-1/8 inches5 plungers, 50 sprays, 8 massage jets; 3 patterns
Icon S-2252-E175Solid brass construction2-3/4 inches6 plungers, 48 sprays; 3 patterns

Both exact models are rated at a maximum 1.75 gallons per minute. The Hotel specification sheet (images.salsify.com) and Icon specification sheet (images.salsify.com) separate that E175 version from the 2.0 GPM E2 and 2.5 GPM base versions. Compare the full model code, rather than treating every Hotel or Icon listing as the same item.

The face diameters describe the hardware, not a measured spray footprint. The Hotel drawing also shows a 4-3/8-inch overall width across the side profile, while the Icon drawing shows 3-3/4 inches including the lever. Those widths should not replace the circular-face measurements in the table.

Hotel S-2005-HB-E175: larger face, plastic body

Choose the Hotel S-2005-HB-E175 if you want the larger of these two faces and a side handle for changing the spray pattern, and you are comfortable with a plastic body. The brass ball nut is the connection component; it does not make the entire head brass.

The maker sheet (images.salsify.com) lists five plungers producing 50 sprays, plus eight massage jets and three patterns. The selected 1.75 GPM version on the current Hotel product page (speakman.com) describes Intense, Massage and Combination positions. These are spray choices, not 58 separate settings.

The drawing shows a 4-1/8-inch circular face. Compare the full drawing and the side handle with the space around your existing shower arm. Use the current delivered model drawing when checking its projection from the arm. Do not read the larger face as proof that this head will rinse faster or cover a particular shoulder width.

Skip it if solid brass construction is your main requirement, or if you need a handheld hose rather than a fixed head. This recommendation is for the unfiltered HB model. It does not make chlorine-removal, skin or hair claims, and it is not the similarly named Hotel Pure filtered product.

The standard new polished-chrome offer checked on October 15, 2026 was sold by Direct Supply Store on Amazon, showed stock and had an add-to-cart button. Both the model and manufacturer part-number fields matched S-2005-HB-E175.

Icon S-2252-E175: compact face, solid brass construction

Choose the Icon S-2252-E175 if the maker’s solid-brass construction is the reason you are shopping Speakman and you prefer the smaller circular face. Its specification sheet (images.salsify.com) lists six plungers, 48 sprays and three patterns, adjusted with the side lever.

The face is 2-3/4 inches across in the drawing. The drawing also shows an overall width of 3-3/4 inches including the lever. Its face is smaller than the Hotel’s, but the lever still needs room to move.

The full code matters here too. S-2252-E175 is the 1.75 GPM model; the base S-2252 and S-2252-E2 are separate flow versions. A photo of the same silhouette is not enough to establish which one is in the box. Our checked offer is polished chrome.

Skip it if you want the Hotel’s larger face or its separate center massage-jet arrangement. Also skip both picks if you need a large overhead rain panel, a handheld spray or a complete shower-valve package. We have not tested the Icon against the Hotel for spray force, noise or service life.

The standard new offer checked on October 15, 2026 was sold by Direct Supply Store on Amazon, showed stock and had an add-to-cart button. The model and manufacturer part number both matched S-2252-E175, with Polished Chrome selected.

Read the suffix before choosing a flow version

The two recommendations hold the maximum rated flow at 1.75 GPM so the material and size differences are easier to compare. E175 is part of the product identity, not a finish name. E2 identifies the 2.0 GPM version in both linked family sheets; the unsuffixed base versions are listed at 2.5 GPM.

A flow rating does not promise that your shower will deliver that amount under every condition. Both instruction sheets list 1.3 GPM minimum flow at 45 psi for their E175 models. That is a stated specification at a stated pressure, not our measurement of a home installation. It also does not establish the minimum flow requirement of your existing shower valve.

The manuals also give different automatic-compensating-valve requirements. The Hotel E175 instructions (images.salsify.com) specify a valve rated at 1.5 GPM or less. The Icon E175 instructions (images.salsify.com) specify 1.3 GPM or less. Follow the document for the exact head rather than transferring one model’s threshold to the other.

If the installed valve’s rating is unknown, identify the valve and confirm compatibility before ordering. The matching thread size alone does not settle that question. This guide compares replacement heads; it does not provide instructions for changing the concealed valve.

Check the shower arm and handle clearance

Both Hotel (images.salsify.com) and Icon installation drawings (images.salsify.com) identify a 1/2-inch NPT female inlet. The specification sheets use the more detailed wording 1/2-inch–14 NPTF female. Check the actual existing arm connection rather than assuming a hose fitting or an unfamiliar imported connection is interchangeable.

These are fixed heads attached to a shower arm. Speakman’s product records list the shower arm as not included. Keep the head’s size, the lever’s movement and the available aiming space in mind when comparing it with the old fitting. The drawings do not provide a guaranteed swivel-angle range.

Read the delivered instructions before removing the old head. The maker shows thread-seal tape on the arm outlet, clockwise threading and final tightening with an adjustable wrench. It also warns against overtightening. Follow those model instructions rather than adding an invented number of wrench turns.

If the arm moves at the wall or its threads are damaged, resolve that condition before fitting a replacement head. Keep the exact Speakman sheet available during the job. If you need a hose and movable spray instead, compare the options in our handheld shower head guide.

Separate material, spray count and pressure expectations

The useful construction distinction is specific: Hotel has a plastic body with a brass ball nut; Icon is described as solid brass. A polished-chrome finish alone does not identify what lies underneath it. Neither description gives us grounds to promise a particular lifespan or resistance to being dropped.

Spray count is another specification that is easy to misread. The Hotel’s 50 sprays plus eight massage jets and the Icon’s 48 sprays describe their outlet arrangements. Each sheet lists three patterns. More individual streams do not establish that one head has stronger spray or performs better in a particular house.

Speakman uses Anystream for its plunger and side-handle adjustment design. Both manuals show changing the pattern by rotating the handle. The current product records list no pause control, so do not buy either one expecting the selector to serve as a water shutoff.

We have not measured spray force or verified an increase in household pressure. Choose between these models on their documented body material, face size, pattern arrangement and fit. If low flow is a symptom that needs investigation, our shower low-pressure guide covers the checks to make before choosing a replacement.

Use the care method for the selected finish

Both linked manuals call for mild soap and warm water, followed by drying with a soft, clean cloth. They warn against harsh or abrasive cleaners. Keep that guidance with the model number so a later cleaning routine does not rely on a generic tip for a different finish.

For chrome-plated heads, the manuals describe a mixture of two parts white vinegar to one part water for excessive deposits on the sprays, with a soak of about half an hour followed by thorough rinsing. The same instructions explicitly exclude other finishes from that treatment. Our two checked offers are polished chrome.

The maker also recommends moving the handle to the Flood position after use to let water drain out and reduce mineral buildup. Its scale-resistant-plunger description does not mean the head never needs cleaning. Follow the maintenance sheet supplied with the actual product if its directions have changed.

Before buying a different color, verify its full model code, flow suffix and separate offer. The fact that a family page lists several finishes does not establish current stock for every variant. This guide’s purchase checks apply only to the two exact polished-chrome E175 offers identified above.

How we chose

We selected the exact Hotel and Icon E175 variants on Speakman’s current pages, read their linked family spec sheets and model instructions, and inspected all four PDF drawings. The comparison uses the PDF dimensions and documented construction. We checked standard new Amazon offers on October 15, 2026 for matching model, manufacturer part number, finish, seller, stock and cart availability. Both are nonpowered items sold by Direct Supply Store. This is a document-based comparison, not a measured performance ranking. Read our selection method and about Plumbing Picks.
