For a standard toilet, pick the Sloan Royal 111-1.28. For a copper supply where you want the sweat solder adapter kit included, pick the Regal 111-1.28-XL. For a piston-type valve, pick the GEM-2 111-1.28-XL. For a 1-gallon urinal, pick the Royal 186-1.0. All need a fixture made for a flushometer and an 11-1/2-inch rough-in.

A Sloan flush valve, also called a flushometer, flushes a toilet or urinal straight from the water line with no tank. It is the exposed chrome valve common in commercial restrooms. A flushometer only works with a bowl or urinal made for one, and it needs a supply pipe large enough to deliver the flush, so it does not replace the tank on a home toilet.
Sloan Royal 111-1.28: the standard toilet flushometer
Choose the Royal 111-1.28 for a standard 1.28-gallon toilet flushometer. Sloan’s spec sheet (sloan.com) for code 3910168 lists a 1.28 gpf flush, a diaphragm valve with a PERMEX synthetic rubber diaphragm and dual filtered fixed bypass, a semi-red brass body, a top-spud fixture connection, an 11-1/2-inch rough-in, a 1-1/2-inch spud coupling, a 1-inch supply, an adjustable tailpiece, a vandal-resistant stop cap, an ADA-compliant non-hold-open handle and CID flush accuracy technology.
Its rough-in drawing shows the 1-inch supply 11-1/2 inches above the top of the fixture spud, 4-3/4 inches to the side of the fixture centerline, and at least 2-1/4 inches from the finished wall to the valve. Sloan lists a flowing pressure range of 15 to 80 psi and notes that some fixtures need more minimum pressure.
On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Sloan Marketplace showed In Stock with model 3910168.

Sloan Regal 111-1.28-XL: with a sweat solder adapter kit
Choose the Regal 111-1.28-XL when the supply is copper and you want Sloan’s sweat solder adapter kit in the box. Sloan’s spec sheet (sloan.com) for code 3080050 lists the same 1.28 gpf flush, diaphragm valve, semi-red brass body, top spud, 11-1/2-inch rough-in, 1-1/2-inch spud and 1-inch supply as the Royal, plus the XL sweat solder adapter kit and a control stop plug instead of the Royal’s vandal-resistant stop cap.
The Royal sheet lists CID flush accuracy technology and the PERMEX dual filtered bypass diaphragm; the Regal sheet does not list those two features. Both list an ADA-compliant non-hold-open handle, an adjustable tailpiece and the same 15 to 80 psi flowing pressure range.
On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Sloan Marketplace showed In Stock with model 3080050. The Amazon title does not mention the XL kit; Sloan’s code 3080050 is the XL version.

Sloan GEM-2 111-1.28-XL: piston valve
Choose the GEM-2 111-1.28-XL if you want a piston-type valve instead of a diaphragm. Sloan’s spec sheet (sloan.com) for code 3070026 lists a 1.28 gpf flush, a fixed-volume piston with a filtered O-ring bypass, a metal oscillating ADA-compliant non-hold-open handle, PERMEX rubber components for chloramine resistance, a semi-red brass body, the XL sweat solder adapter kit, a top spud, an 11-1/2-inch rough-in, a 1-1/2-inch spud and a 1-inch supply.
Piston and diaphragm valves use different internal repair parts, so record which type you install. Sloan links installation instructions specific to GEM and GEM-2 piston valves from the sheet.
On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Sloan Marketplace showed limited stock with model 3070026.

Sloan Royal 186-1.0: urinal flushometer
Choose the Royal 186-1.0 for a 1-gallon urinal. Sloan’s spec sheet (sloan.com) for code 3012636 lists a 1.0 gpf flush, a diaphragm valve with a PERMEX diaphragm and dual filtered fixed bypass, a semi-red brass body, a top-spud urinal connection, an 11-1/2-inch rough-in, a 3/4-inch spud coupling and a 3/4-inch supply, CID flush accuracy technology, a vandal-resistant stop cap and an ADA-compliant non-hold-open handle.
The drawing shows the same 11-1/2-inch height from the fixture spud to the supply, a 4-3/4-inch offset and a 2-1/4-inch minimum wall clearance as the toilet valve. Match the flush volume to the urinal; Sloan’s sheet links compatible urinals.

Match the valve to the fixture
Three numbers decide whether a Sloan valve fits. First, the fixture type and flush volume: a toilet valve and a urinal valve are different, and the gallons per flush should match what the bowl or urinal is rated for. Second, the spud: these valves are top spud, meaning the valve connects to the top of the fixture. Third, the rough-in: Sloan lists 11-1/2 inches from the fixture spud up to the supply for all four valves here.
Sloan’s sheets note WaterSense listing for the 1.28 gpf toilet valves when used with a 1.28 gpf WaterSense fixture. Our commercial toilet guide covers bowls made for flushometers.
Pressure and supply size
All four sheets list a flowing pressure range of 15 to 80 psi, and Sloan says some fixtures need a higher minimum. That is flowing pressure, measured while water runs, not the static pressure you read with no fixtures open. If a flushometer flushes weakly, check the pressure and the supply size before replacing parts; a water pressure gauge gives you a static reading to start from.
The toilet valves here take a 1-inch supply and the urinal valve a 3/4-inch supply. A smaller pipe may not deliver enough water while the valve is open.
Repairs and rebuild kits
Sloan links control stop, flush connection and flange repair guides from each sheet. Diaphragm valves and piston valves use different rebuild parts, and parts also differ by valve family and flush volume, so read the model and flush volume on the valve before ordering. For Zurn valves, see our Zurn flush valve repair kit guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Sloan flush valve?
A Sloan flushometer flushes a toilet or urinal straight from the supply line without a tank. It works only with fixtures made for flushometers.
What is the difference between Sloan Royal and Regal?
Both are diaphragm valves with the same 1.28 gpf, rough-in and supply size here. The Royal sheet lists CID flush accuracy technology and a vandal-resistant stop cap; the Regal XL adds a sweat solder adapter kit.
What is the rough-in for a Sloan flushometer?
Sloan lists 11-1/2 inches from the fixture spud to the supply for all four valves here.
What water pressure does a Sloan flush valve need?
Sloan lists 15 to 80 psi flowing pressure, and some fixtures need a higher minimum.
Can I put a Sloan flush valve on a home toilet?
Not on a tank toilet. A flushometer needs a bowl made for one and a large enough supply line.
How we chose
This document-based guide makes no hands-on testing claim. We read Sloan’s spec sheets for codes 3910168, 3080050, 3070026 and 3012636 and inspected their rough-in drawings. On October 15, 2026, each linked standard new Amazon offer was sold by Sloan Marketplace; we checked the model code, stock and add-to-cart button. Sensor (battery or hard-wired) flushometers were left out. Read our selection method and about Plumbing Picks.
