A trough sink is a long, narrow basin. In a shared bathroom it can replace two separate sinks with one basin and two faucets; in a smaller room it gives a modern, oversized look with one faucet.

Kohler Veil K-20705: a two-faucet trough

Choose the Kohler Veil K-20705 for a true double-faucet trough. Kohler lists (resources.kohler.com) a 38-1/2-inch asymmetrical oval fireclay vessel whose trough-style basin allows a two-faucet application, with no faucet holes, so it needs wall-mount or counter-mount faucets. It has an overflow, includes a color-matched overflow cap and brass drain cover, and Kohler lists a K-7114-A or K-7126 pop-up drain as required for above-counter installation. The bowl area is about 37-7/8 × 15-7/16 inches.

On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer from eFaucets showed one in stock with part 20705 (white), so check availability.

Kohler Vox K-2749-1: long vessel, one faucet

Choose the Kohler Vox K-2749-1 for a long basin with one faucet. Kohler lists (resources.kohler.com) a 35-7/16 × 20-1/2-inch rectangular vitreous china vessel with a single faucet hole on its own deck, an overflow, a 1-3/4-inch drain hole and a bowl area of about 34-11/16 × 14-3/16 inches, 5-11/16 inches deep. A cut-out template is used for the counter.

Because the faucet hole is on the sink, a standard single-hole faucet can work; Kohler advises choosing one that clears the rim and aims the stream at the bowl center. On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com showed two in stock with part 2749-1-0.

Kohler Iron Plains K-20212: cast iron in the counter

Choose the Kohler Iron Plains K-20212 for a trough set into the counter. Kohler lists (resources.kohler.com) a 30-inch rectangular enameled cast iron sink for drop-in or undermount installation with a large basin, no faucet holes, an overflow, included basin clamps and a bowl area of about 28-13/16 × 14-7/16 inches. Kohler lists a lifetime limited warranty for its enameled cast iron sinks.

With no faucet holes, it pairs with a wall-mount faucet or faucets drilled into the counter. On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer from eFaucets showed limited stock with part 20212 (white).

One faucet or two?

A trough long enough for two people needs two faucets, one at each end, so each user has a stream over their part of the basin. The Veil is designed for that. Shorter troughs work with one faucet, but check that the stream lands near the middle and that the drain is placed where the water falls.

Spacing matters too. Leave enough room between the two faucets that two people can stand at the sink without bumping elbows, and keep each faucet far enough from the basin end that its stream does not hit the wall of the bowl. Mock up the layout on the counter with tape before the plumbing is roughed in; it is much easier to move a faucet location on paper than in a finished wall.

Two faucets means two sets of supplies. Plan the hot and cold lines to both faucet locations before the wall is closed, with a shutoff for each faucet so one can be serviced without shutting off the other. Our supply stop guide covers the valves.

Faucets for sinks without holes

The Veil and Iron Plains have no faucet holes, so the faucets mount on the wall above or on the counter behind. Wall-mount faucets need their valves roughed into the wall at the right height and spout reach for the basin; our wall-mount bathroom faucet guide covers that. Counter-mount faucets need holes drilled in the counter behind the sink.

For the Vox, with its single hole, see our single-hole faucet guide, and for tall faucets over vessels, our vessel sink guide.

Drains for long basins

Most trough sinks have one drain, often placed off center. Kohler lists a 1-3/4-inch drain hole for the Vox and specific pop-up drains for the Veil. Match the drain to whether the sink has an overflow; all three here do. Our pop-up drain guide covers drains, and a bathroom sink takes a 1-1/4-inch trap.

With a single drain under a long basin, place the trap where it fits in the vanity and leaves room for drawers, and check that the vanity is wide enough for the basin plus the faucets and any counter space you want beside them.

Vanity and counter fit

Fireclay, vitreous china or cast iron?

The three picks use three different materials. Kohler makes the Veil from fireclay, the Vox from vitreous china and the Iron Plains from enameled cast iron. All three have hard, glossy surfaces that clean easily. Cast iron is the heaviest by far and is usually set into the counter rather than on top of it, which is why the Iron Plains is a drop-in or undermount sink. Fireclay and vitreous china vessels are lighter but still heavy enough that the counter and vanity need to be solid.

Long basins can splash more at the ends where the stream hits, so place each faucet over the deepest part of the bowl and pick a faucet with a soft, aerated stream.

Vessel troughs like the Veil and Vox sit on top of the counter, so the finished rim height is the counter height plus the sink. Kohler notes its vessel sinks rest on the countertop and to consider height when designing the installation. Drop-in and undermount troughs like the Iron Plains sit at counter height.

Use the maker’s cut-out template; Kohler includes one with the Veil and requires one for the Vox. Our undermount sink guide and drop-in sink guide cover those installs.

Frequently asked questions

What is a trough sink?

A long, narrow sink basin, often wide enough for two faucets and two users.

Can one trough sink have two faucets?

Yes, if it is long enough. Kohler says the Veil K-20705’s trough-style basin allows a two-faucet application.

Do trough sinks have faucet holes?

Some do and some do not. The Kohler Vox K-2749-1 has one; the Veil and Iron Plains have none and need wall- or counter-mount faucets.

How many drains does a trough sink have?

Usually one. Plan the trap location in the vanity and match the drain to the overflow.

What vanity size fits a trough sink?

At least as wide as the basin plus room for faucets; check the sink’s spec sheet dimensions.

How we chose

This document-based guide makes no hands-on testing claim. We read Kohler’s spec sheets for the Veil K-20705, Vox K-2749-1 and Iron Plains K-20212. On October 15, 2026, all three linked standard new offers showed stock, but only one or two units for the Veil and Vox, so availability may change.
