Quick answer from a licensed plumber: Match the part to the maker and model. Woodford: RK-17VB (Model 17), RK-19VB (Model 19), RK-22VB (Model 22 / V22 from 2008), and the add-on hose-thread breakers on the Models 25, 27 and 30 (34HA on the 25, 50HA on the 27 and 30); the Model 16 and 14 have none. PRIER: C-144KT-806 (C-144, P-154, P-164) and 630-7500 (400 and 500 Series Mansfield-style), which PRIER now says are both universal aluminum-cap kits. A C-134 has no vacuum breaker.

Most common fixes: Woodford RK-19VB float kit (not linked: third-party seller only on 10/3/2026) for a Model 19, Woodford RK-22VB float kit for a 22 / V22, and the Prier 630-7500 vacuum breaker kit (all shipped by Amazon on September 24, 2026).

Two Kinds of Vacuum Breaker

On a frost-free faucet the backflow device is either built into the head or screwed onto the hose thread. Woodford’s Model 17 and 19 sheets describe the built-in kind: each “contains an integral backflow protection device which protects up to 125 psi of backpressure and therefore does not require an add-on vacuum breaker,” listed to ASSE 1019. PRIER’s C-144 has an “Anti-siphon aluminum vacuum breaker with EPDM backflow preventer and backflow check valve” under the cap on top of the valve. Woodford’s Models 25, 27 and 30 use the add-on kind instead: a 34HA or 50HA that threads onto the spout.

Woodford puts a time limit on the built-in device: “This ASSE 1019 device is intended for irrigation use and outdoor watering and shall not be subjected to more than (12) hours of continuous water pressure.” PRIER’s failure description is the practical version: the cap leaks “when the hose is left on the valve and the plastic cap is ruptured by freezing, or the rubber seating surface needs to be replaced.” For what a vacuum breaker does and why codes want one, see our vacuum breaker vs anti-siphon valve guide; this page is only about which replacement part fits.

Woodford: Float Kits by Model

Woodford sells the built-in vacuum breaker as a float kit, one per model, and lists the same kit inside the full repair kit:

PRIER: Two Kits, Now Universal

PRIER had two vacuum breaker kits and has merged their fit. The C-144 page: “The replacement kit for this repair is part number C-144KT-806,” and then: “Since the creation of this video, we have updated our vacuum breakers to aluminum caps as shown above. The C-144KT-806 and 630-7500 are now universal vacuum breaker kits and will fit all past and present PRIER and Mansfield style residential hydrants.” The kit pages still print their original fits:

  • C-144KT-806: “Includes: Vacuum Breaker & Aluminum Cap”; “For use with: C-144, P-154, & P-164 Series.”
  • 630-7500: “Includes: 1 vacuum breaker body & 1 vacuum breaker aluminum cap”; “Tools needed: Screwdriver & Pliers”; “For use with: 400 & 500 Series Mansfield Wall Hydrant.”

A C-134 has no vacuum breaker to replace; PRIER’s page says to look at the C-144 if you want one, which means a new hydrant, not a kit.

How to Tell Which You Need

  1. Look at the top of the faucet. A cap or dome on the valve body, behind the spout, is a built-in breaker (Woodford 17/19/22, PRIER C-144, Mansfield-style). A brass or chrome fitting screwed onto the hose thread is an add-on (Woodford 34HA / 50HA).
  2. Name the maker and model. Woodford’s finder reads “handle shape, what’s on the spout, markings on the casting”; PRIER stamps a date code at the spout aligning mark. Our Woodford repair kit guide and Prier repair kit guide walk through both.
  3. Buy the float kit, not the whole repair kit, if the rest works. Woodford sells each VB kit alone; PRIER’s C-144KT-806 and 630-7500 are cap-and-breaker kits.
  4. Fix the cause. A hose left on in freezing weather ruptures the cap (PRIER) and defeats the 12-hour pressure limit (Woodford). Take the hose off.

FAQ

What vacuum breaker fits a Woodford Model 17?

The RK-17VB vacuum breaker float kit. Woodford includes it in the RK-17MH repair kit and sells it alone; the bevel check valve in the kit is for faucets dated 04/98 or later.

What vacuum breaker fits a Woodford Model 19 or 22?

The RK-19VB float kit for the Model 19 and the RK-22VB vent float kit for the 2008-and-later Model 22 and V22. The Model 16 does not use one.

Does the Prier 630-7500 fit a C-144?

PRIER says the C-144KT-806 and 630-7500 are now universal vacuum breaker kits with aluminum caps that fit all past and present PRIER and Mansfield style residential hydrants; the 630-7500 page itself lists the 400 and 500 Series Mansfield hydrants and the C-144KT-806 page lists the C-144, P-154 and P-164.

What is the difference between the Woodford 34HA and 50HA?

Both are add-on hose-thread backflow devices: Woodford lists the 34HA with the Model 25 and the 50HA with the 27 and 30, and as an upgrade for the 25. Woodford says the 50HA is an ASSE 1052 auto-draining double-check backflow preventer that stops spray-back when you shut the faucet with a hose attached and drains so it will not freeze.

Why does my outdoor faucet spit water from the top?

That is the vacuum breaker cap. PRIER says it leaks when the hose was left on and the cap froze, or when the rubber seat is worn; Woodford limits its built-in device to 12 hours of continuous pressure. Replace the float kit or cap kit for your model and take the hose off in cold weather.

Why Trust Plumbing Picks

Plumbing Picks is written by a licensed Georgia journeyman plumber. Every part number, model list, size, setting and fit on this page comes from the manufacturer pages and documents listed below, which we opened and read; product details come from those makers and from the Amazon listings, not from hands-on testing. Each linked product was shipped or sold by Amazon, new and in stock, when we checked on September 24, 2026. Where a link goes to Amazon we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Bottom Line

Look at the top of the faucet: a cap on the body means a built-in breaker and a float kit for that model; a fitting on the hose thread means an add-on 34HA or 50HA. Woodford has one float kit per model; PRIER’s two kits now fit its whole residential line. Then take the hose off in winter so you do not buy the kit twice.
