Swiss Madison’s spec sheet (images.salsify.com) for the SM-1T112GB lists a one-piece seamless design, a glazed ceramic skirted trapway, an elongated bowl, a 15.5-inch standard bowl height, a dual Vortex flush of 1.1 or 1.6 gpf and a quick-release soft-close seat.
It lists black-matched parts by number, including the seat (SM-QRS12GB), tank lid and side bolt covers, plus the fill valve, flush valve, push button and a wax ring with bolts. Choose the Château for the lowest glossy black one-piece here. Swiss Madison’s spec sheet (images.salsify.com) for the SM-1T803GB lists a one-piece seamless design, an elongated bowl, a 15.75-inch standard bowl height, a dual gravity flush of 1.1 or 1.6 gpf and a quick-release soft-close seat in black (SM-QRS03GB).
It lists a 24-inch height, the lowest here, a 27-9/16 by 16-1/8-inch footprint, an 88-pound net weight and a 12-inch rough-in, with a wax ring and bolts included. The sheet’s feature list says skirted trapway, but its product page lists only a fully glazed trapway, so check photos if a skirted base matters to you. Swiss Madison St. Tropez SM-1T254MB: matte black, comfort height
Choose the St. Tropez for matte black and a taller ADA bowl. Swiss Madison’s spec sheet (images.salsify.com) lists a one-piece seamless design, an elongated bowl, comfort height, a dual Vortex flush, a quick-release soft-close seat and ADA compliance, in matte black among four matte colors.
It lists a 27.5 by 16 by 30.5-inch size, an 18-inch height in the drawing to the seat, a 105.62-pound net weight and a 12-inch rough-in. Kohler Highline K-5481-7: Black Black, round front
Choose the Highline for a two-piece black toilet with Kohler’s Comfort Height. Kohler’s spec sheet (resources.kohler.com) lists Black Black as color code 7, a two-piece round-front design with Comfort Height, a 1.28 gpf Class Five flush, a 2-1/8-inch fully glazed trapway, a left-hand polished chrome trip lever and three-bolt quick-connect installation on a 12-inch rough-in.

Seats and parts in black
A black toilet needs a black seat. The three Swiss Madison toilets include a black soft-close quick-release seat, and Swiss Madison lists black replacement seats and tank lids by part number. Kohler sells the Highline without a seat, so order a round-front seat in black; see our toilet seat guide. If you buy a replacement seat, check the maker and color code on the listing.
Glossy or matte black?
Swiss Madison offers glossy black on the Ivy and Château and matte black on the St. Tropez, and Kohler’s Black Black is its own color. The sheets do not compare how each finish shows water spots or wear, so choose by look and by what matches your tile and fixtures. Flush and water use
The three Swiss Madison toilets use a dual flush with a 1.1-gallon light flush and a 1.6-gallon full flush. The Kohler Highline uses a single 1.28-gallon flush and is WaterSense listed; Kohler also notes it is eligible for rebates in some municipalities. If water use is your main concern, compare how often you would use the light flush. Installation
All four are 12-inch rough-in, so measure from the finished wall to the floor bolts first. The Swiss Madison toilets are one piece and weigh 88 to about 106 pounds, so plan for two people to set them. Kohler notes its Highline uses a three-bolt quick-connect installation and, for back-to-back toilets, a 45-degree double wye fitting.
