For a single-handle wall tub filler, the Moen Gibson WT961 pairs with Moen’s WMV130 valve and lists a 10-inch spout; for two handles, the Kohler Parallel T23491-4 pairs with Kohler’s K-20716-K valve and lists a 9-inch reach. Buy the trim and its valve together, and measure from the finished wall to the tub before you rough in.

This guide covers tub faucets that mount on the wall above a tub.
Wall mount tub faucets compared
| Trim | Valve | Reach and flow (maker) |
|---|---|---|
| Moen Gibson WT961 | Moen WMV130 series | 10 in. spout; 8 gpm at 60 psi; one handle |
| Kohler Parallel T23491-4 | Kohler K-20716-K | 9 in. reach; 10 gpm max at 45 psi; two handles |
A wall mount tub faucet puts the spout and handles on the wall above the tub instead of on the tub deck or the floor. It suits drop-in and freestanding tubs pushed near a wall, and it keeps the tub rim clear. The valve goes inside the wall during rough-in, so this is a choice to make before the wall is closed.
The key number is spout reach: the spout has to clear the tub rim and land water inside the tub, so measure from the finished wall to where you want the water to fall.
Moen Gibson WT961 with the WMV130 valve
Choose the Moen Gibson WT961 for a single-handle wall filler with a long spout. Moen’s spec sheet (maker page: assets.moen.com/shared/docs/product-specifications/wt961sp.pdf) lists a 10-inch thin tub spout for a longer distance between wall and tub, a separate 4.5-inch handle escutcheon, a lever with hot and cold indicators, an adjustable temperature limit stop to control maximum hot water temperature, and a 1215 ceramic disc high-flow volume control cartridge designed to deliver 8 gpm at 60 psi.
Moen notes the cartridge is not pressure-balancing, is only intended for tub filler use and is not compatible with back-to-back installations. The trim kit includes the handle, spout and cartridge.
On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com showed four left with model WT961 in chrome.

Kohler Parallel T23491-4 with the K-20716-K valve
Choose the Kohler Parallel T23491-4 for separate hot and cold handles and the highest listed flow here. Kohler’s spec sheet (resources.kohler.com) lists a wall-mount bath faucet trim with two lever handles, a 9-inch spout reach, 10.0 gpm maximum flow at 45 psi, KOHLER ceramic disc valves, metal construction, and the K-20716-K two-handle wall-mount bath faucet valve as required. Kohler lists ADA, OBC and CSA B651 compliance when installed to those requirements, and the KOHLER Faucet Lifetime Limited Warranty.
On October 15, 2026, the standard new offer sold by Amazon.com showed only one left in brushed nickel, model T23491-4-BN. Check stock and finish before you order.

One handle or two?
The Moen Gibson uses one lever: lift it for volume, rotate it for temperature. Moen lists an adjustable limit stop so you can cap how far the handle turns toward hot. Our limit stop guide explains how limit stops work on Moen and other valves.
The Kohler Parallel uses two handles, one for hot and one for cold, like a traditional bath faucet. You mix by hand, and Kohler does not list a built-in temperature limit on this trim.
For a tub filler on its own, either works. If a separate temperature-limiting device is required where you live, it usually goes on the hot supply; our thermostatic mixing valve guide covers them. Ask your local inspector what applies.
Measuring spout reach and height
Spout reach is measured from the finished wall to the spout outlet. Moen lists a 10-inch spout and Kohler a 9-inch reach. Your tub rim has to sit closer to the wall than that, with enough room that water lands inside the tub and does not hit the rim.
Set the spout height so it clears the tub rim and any overflow, and so you are not reaching awkwardly for the handles. The spec sheets show the trim dimensions; plan the height from the finished floor, not the framing.
For a freestanding tub, pick the tub first and mark its final position, then place the valve. Moving a freestanding tub a few inches can leave a wall spout short of the bowl.
Rough-in depth and wall finish
Wall valves have a range for how deep they sit behind the finished wall. Kohler’s and Moen’s spec sheet drawings give minimum and maximum installation dimensions for the Parallel and the WMV130; read them with the installation instructions before you set the valve. Set the valve to the finished wall thickness you will have with tile, stone or board, not just the drywall, because a valve set too deep or too shallow can leave the trim unable to seat or the handle stem too short to reach.
Mark the valve centerline on the framing with the tub in its final position, and add blocking so the valve and spout manifold are held firmly. A loose valve lets the spout move every time someone turns the handle.
Run the supplies to the valve’s connection type. Moen offers copper/IPS, PEX and cold expansion PEX versions; our PEX crimp tool guide covers crimp and clamp tools. Follow the maker’s installation instructions and your inspector’s requirements for testing before the wall is closed.
Leave access where the code or maker calls for it; our access panel guide covers sizing. Moen’s quarter-turn shutoffs in the valve make later service easier.
Flow and fill time
Moen designs the Gibson to deliver 8 gpm at 60 psi, and Kohler lists the Parallel at 10.0 gpm maximum at 45 psi. Both fill a tub much faster than a shower head, but actual flow depends on your pressure and piping.
A fast filler can outrun a small water heater. If the tub is large, compare its capacity with your water heater before you commit.
Other tub faucet types
If your tub stands away from the wall, a floor-mounted filler may be the better fit; see our freestanding tub filler guide. For a deck-mounted faucet on a drop-in tub, see our roman tub faucet guide, and for exposed vintage faucets, our clawfoot tub faucet guide. Our freestanding tub guide covers the tubs.
Frequently asked questions
Does a wall mount tub faucet include the valve?
Usually not. Moen’s WT961 trim uses a WMV130 valve, and Kohler lists the K-20716-K valve as required for the T23491-4 trim.
How far should a wall mount tub spout reach?
Far enough to clear the rim and land water inside the tub. Moen lists a 10-inch spout and Kohler a 9-inch reach.
Can I use a wall mount tub filler for a shower?
The Moen Gibson cartridge is not pressure-balancing and Moen says it is only intended for tub filler use.
Which fills faster?
Kohler lists 10.0 gpm maximum at 45 psi for the Parallel; Moen designs the Gibson for 8 gpm at 60 psi.
Can I limit the hot water temperature?
Moen lists an adjustable temperature limit stop on the Gibson. Kohler does not list one on the Parallel trim.
How we chose
This document-based guide makes no hands-on testing claim. We read Moen’s WT961 and WMV130 spec sheets and Kohler’s K-T23491-4 spec sheet. On October 15, 2026, the Moen trim and valve and the Kohler trim were sold by Amazon.com and showed stock, and the Kohler valve’s third-party offer showed stock.
