InSinkErator vs Waste King Mount: Will It Fit?

Plumbing Picks is reader-supported. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

Quick answer from a licensed plumber: InSinkErator disposers hang on InSinkErator’s three-screw Quick Lock mount. Waste King makes two different mounts: the plastic, twist-lock EZ Mount and the stainless Pro 3-Bolt Mount. A new disposer of the same brand and mount drops onto the old mount. A Waste King EZ Mount unit can go onto an existing InSinkErator mount with Waste King’s 3101AMC adapter. Everything else means changing the mount and the sink flange.

The Three Mounts at a Glance

InSinkErator uses one mount across its disposers. Waste King sells two, and they are different parts. Everything in this table comes from the makers’ own pages:

Waste King says the EZ Mount and Pro 3-Bolt versions differ only in the mount, the splash guard and the drain width: “There is no difference in motor or performance and is solely a customer’s product preference.”

How to Tell Which Mount You Have

  • Read the label. Waste King says the model and serial number are “located on the label affixed to the bottom of your disposal.” Waste King’s model pages list the L-111, L-1001, L-2600, L-3200 and L-8000 (Legend) as EZ Mount and the 9920, 9940, 9950 and 9980 as Pro 3-Bolt Mount.
  • Look at the ring above the disposer. InSinkErator’s instructions describe “three mounting screws” and a snap ring on its mount. A plastic ring that twists off by hand points to Waste King’s EZ Mount.
  • Try the splash guard. On a Waste King, a guard that lifts out means EZ Mount; Waste King says the Pro 3-Bolt guard “is not removable.” Replacement guards by brand are in our splash guard guide.

What the Adapter Does, and What It Doesn’t

Waste King’s 3101AMC adapter “Allows for Waste King and Whirlaway EZ Mount garbage disposals to attach to most existing 3-Bolt Mount flanges, including Moen and InSinkErator brand.” It works one way only: an EZ Mount disposer onto an existing InSinkErator or Moen mount. There is no adapter on either maker’s pages that hangs an InSinkErator on a Waste King mount. We did not find the 3101AMC shipped or sold by Amazon when we checked, so there is no link to it here; Waste King’s FAQ lists companies that sell its parts.

If You Have to Change the Mount

Changing brands usually means a new sink flange too, because the flange is part of the mount. InSinkErator’s replacement steps are the model for the job:

  • “loosen the three mounting screws, pry the snap ring off with a screwdriver and remove the old mounting assembly.”
  • Push the old flange up through the sink hole and scrape off the old putty.
  • “Place a 1/2 inch rope of plumber’s putty around the drain opening in the sink,” set the new flange, then slide on the “fiber gasket, backup flange and mounting flange.”
  • Hang the disposer and check that “all 3 mounting tabs are latched over ridges,” which InSinkErator says prevents leaks and a falling disposer.

InSinkErator’s Badger manual and Waste King’s L-8000, L-2600 and 9940 pages list a sink flange and mounting hardware in the box, so you do not buy them separately for a whole-unit swap. The drain side usually carries over: Waste King says “the existing plumbing connections to your waste pipe should support any model or manufacturer,” and InSinkErator says to cut a discharge tube that is too long or buy an extension if it is too short.

What to Buy

Parts You’ll Also Need

Only if you are changing the mount and flange:

When to Call a Licensed Plumber

  • The sink is thicker than a standard sink, or it is stone or a farmhouse sink. The flange may need extended parts; each maker’s thick-sink limits are in our sink flange guide.
  • The undermount sink has dropped or pulled away from the counter. Fix its clips or frame before a disposer hangs from it; our undermount sink adhesive guide covers what each sink maker uses.
  • The disposer is hardwired and the new one needs an outlet. InSinkErator says to have “a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician” if the cord does not fit.
  • The drain line or dishwasher hose will not line up with the new disposer.

FAQ

Will a Waste King fit an InSinkErator mount?

A Waste King EZ Mount disposer will, with Waste King’s 3101AMC adapter, which it says attaches EZ Mount units to most existing 3-bolt flanges including InSinkErator. Without the adapter, or for a Pro 3-Bolt model, install the Waste King mount that comes with it.

Will an InSinkErator fit a Waste King mount?

Not on the pages we read. Neither maker offers a part for that. Remove the Waste King mount and flange and install the InSinkErator mount from the box, as InSinkErator’s manual describes.

What is the difference between Waste King EZ Mount and Pro 3-Bolt?

Waste King lists three: EZ Mount parts are plastic and Pro 3-Bolt parts are stainless steel; EZ Mount has a removable splash guard and Pro 3-Bolt has a built-in one; the EZ Mount drain is about 3-1/8 inches wide and the Pro 3-Bolt about 3-3/8 inches. It says motor and performance are the same.

Can I reuse my InSinkErator mount with a new InSinkErator?

Yes. InSinkErator’s manual asks whether the new disposer mounting is the same as the old one and lets you skip the mount steps if it is.

Can I put a Waste King EZ Mount disposal on a Waste King Pro 3-Bolt mount?

No. Waste King says its 3101AMC adapter is not compatible with Pro 3-Bolt Mount assemblies, so change the mount.

Bottom Line

Read the label first. Same brand and same mount: keep the mount. InSinkErator to a Waste King EZ Mount: the 3101AMC adapter, or the new mount from the box. Anything onto a Waste King Pro 3-Bolt, or an InSinkErator onto any Waste King mount: change the mount and flange.
