Prier Wall Hydrant Repair Kit: Which Kit Fits?

Plumbing Picks is reader-supported. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

Quick answer from a licensed plumber: PRIER names its kits by symptom. Leak behind the handle: tighten the packing nut, then the C-134KT-803 packing kit. Drip that lasts longer than about a minute after shutoff: the C-134KT-802 OO bibb washer (or the C-135KT-802 1/4 L washer on a pre-1972 C-134). Wet cap on a C-144: the C-144KT-806 vacuum breaker. Missing handle: C-134KT-805. Everything worn: the C-134KT-807 or C-144KT-807 overhaul kit. Water inside the house means the tube has burst, and no kit fixes that.

Full rebuild: Prier C-134KT-807 overhaul kit (not linked: third-party seller only on 10/3/2026) for a C-134 or C-234, or the Prier C-144KT-807 kit (not linked: unavailable on Amazon on 10/4/2026) for a C-144 (both shipped by Amazon on September 24, 2026).

Step 1: Which Prier Hydrant Is It?

PRIER offers “genuine replacement parts and repair kits for residential hydrants dating back to 1950,” and its kit numbers follow the two main models. The C-134 is “the original freezeless hydrant,” made since the 1940s, with no vacuum breaker; the C-144, made since 1990, “has all the characteristics of the historically proven C-134 with the added protection of an anti-siphon vacuum breaker and backflow check valve,” so it has a cap on top of the valve body. A C-234 or C-244 is the same hydrant “with a vandal proof extended lockshield and operating key.” The P-164 is PRIER’s quarter-turn version, and the P-154 a freezeless model that PRIER lists on the same packing, bibb washer and vacuum breaker kits. Mansfield-style hydrants (PRIER’s 400 and 500 Series) have their own 630-series kits.

PRIER stamps a date: both hydrants carry a “Spout aligning mark with manufacturer’s date code,” and the date matters for the bibb washer, below. If you cannot tell which model you have, PRIER says to “Browse our model-specific repair kits or contact the PRIER customer service team.”

Step 2: Match the Symptom to the Kit

PRIER’s product pages go symptom by symptom. This is its list, with the kit it names for each.

Step 3: The Bibb Washer Depends on the Date and the Stem

This is the one PRIER part that is not a single number. On the C-134 PRIER says: “Before 1972, PRIER utilized a 1/4 L beveled bibb washer for freezeless hydrants. The appropriate kit for this item is part number C-135KT-802.” After 1972, PRIER switched to a OO beveled bibb washer on this hydrant, which takes kit C-134KT-802. If the date code is gone, PRIER identifies it from the stem: “B, C & D style stems use the 1/4L Beveled Bibb Washer, PRIER part number C-135KT-802,” and “E & G style stems require the “OO” Beveled Bibb Washers, PRIER part number C-134KT-802.” The C-144 is simpler: “PRIER uses a OO Beveled Bibb Washer for the C-144 freezeless wall hydrant, part number C-134KT-802.” PRIER also says both washers are standard sizes “available at your local plumbing wholesaler.”

Step 4: The Vacuum Breaker on a C-144

A wet cap on top of the valve means the vacuum breaker. PRIER: “This problem often occurs when the hose is left on the valve and the plastic cap is ruptured by freezing, or the rubber seating surface needs to be replaced. The replacement kit for this repair is part number C-144KT-806.” PRIER has since changed the design: “we have updated our vacuum breakers to aluminum caps as shown above. The C-144KT-806 and 630-7500 are now universal vacuum breaker kits and will fit all past and present PRIER and Mansfield style residential hydrants.” The 630-7500 page itself lists it “For use with: 400 & 500 Series Mansfield Wall Hydrant,” with “1 vacuum breaker body & 1 vacuum breaker aluminum cap,” tools “Screwdriver & Pliers.” Our vacuum breaker replacement guide compares these with Woodford’s kits.

Step 5: When Not to Repair

Mansfield-style hydrants get PRIER’s 630-series kits instead: “Mansfield Hydrant Repair Kit 630-7755,” “Mansfield Handle Kit 630-7965” and “Mansfield Style Hydrant Complete Repair Kit 630-8500.” The 630-7755 listing on Amazon had blank availability on September 24, 2026, so it is not linked.

FAQ

What repair kit fits a Prier C-134 hydrant?

The C-134KT-807 complete overhaul kit, which PRIER says contains all wearing parts: handle and screw, washer, packing and seat washer. For a single symptom, PRIER names the C-134KT-803 packing kit for a leak behind the handle, the C-134KT-802 bibb washer for a drip after shutoff, and the C-134KT-805 handle kit.

What repair kit fits a Prier C-144 hydrant?

The C-144KT-807 complete overhaul kit. The packing (C-134KT-803), OO bibb washer (C-134KT-802) and handle (C-134KT-805) kits are shared with the C-134; the vacuum breaker under the cap is the C-144KT-806.

Why does my Prier hydrant drip after I shut it off?

PRIER says a freezeless hydrant shuts off inside the heated wall and drains for up to 60 seconds after shutoff. If it keeps dripping past that, the bibb washer is worn: the C-134KT-802 OO washer on hydrants made after 1972 and on every C-144, or the C-135KT-802 1/4 L washer on pre-1972 C-134 hydrants.

Is the Prier 630-7500 the same as the C-144KT-806?

PRIER says both are now universal vacuum breaker kits with aluminum caps that fit all past and present PRIER and Mansfield style residential hydrants. The 630-7500 page lists it for 400 and 500 Series Mansfield hydrants; the C-144KT-806 page lists the C-144, P-154 and P-164.

Can a Prier hydrant that leaks inside the wall be repaired?

PRIER says no: the copper tube has frozen and ruptured, the hydrant is most likely beyond repair, and it should not be operated. Remove the handle and have a plumber replace it.

Bottom Line

Name the model by the cap (C-144 has a vacuum breaker cap, C-134 does not), match the symptom to PRIER’s kit, and check the date code before buying a bibb washer. A hydrant that leaks inside the wall is done; PRIER says to pull the handle and replace it.
