Quick answer from a licensed plumber: Buy the TOTO Drake MS776124CEFG.10 for most 10 in. rough-ins. It flushes 1.28 gallons, scores 1,000 g on MaP, sits at Universal Height and comes with a SoftClose seat. For a Kohler with a lifetime warranty on the china, the Highline K-3889. For the tightest room, the American Standard Cadet PRO 215AB104, which ends about 28-7/8 in. from the wall (our arithmetic from its drawing). A 10 in. rough-in moves the drain, not the front of the bowl, so measure the room too.
Our pick for most 10 in. rough-ins: the TOTO Drake MS776124CEFG.10, with a 1,000 g MaP score and the seat included. Check the TOTO Drake MS776124CEFG.10 on Amazon
A 10 in. rough-in means the drain center sits 10 in. from the finished wall instead of the usual 12 in. You find it in older houses and small bathrooms, and a standard 12 in. toilet will not fit it. This page lists 10 in. rough-in toilets from the three big makers, with the numbers that matter for a tight room: where the bowl ends, where the supply goes and what comes in the box. If you have not measured yet, start with how to measure toilet rough-in. Every pick below is listed as EPA WaterSense on its maker’s sheet and scores 1,000 g on the MaP list.
10-Inch Rough-In Toilets Compared
| Toilet | Flush | MaP (Sept 24 list) | Height | Bowl front from wall (our arithmetic from the drawing) | Seat | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TOTO Drake MS776124CEFG.10 | 1.28 gpf | 1,000 g | 17-5/8 in. seat height with seat | about 29-1/8 in. | Included | One year |
| Kohler Highline K-3889 | 1.28 gpf | 1,000 g | 16-1/2 in. rim | about 30-1/4 in. | Sold separately | Lifetime china, 5-year mechanical |
| American Standard Cadet PRO 215AB104 | 1.28 gpf | 1,000 g | 16-1/2 in. rim; 17 in. with seat, per AS | about 28-7/8 in. | Sold separately | Lifetime chinaware, 5-year parts |
| Kohler Highline K-6393 dual flush | 1.1 / 1.6 gpf | 1,000 g | 16-1/2 in. rim | about 30-1/4 in. | Sold separately | Lifetime china, 5-year mechanical |
From the TOTO, Kohler and American Standard documents and the MaP list linked below, read on October 3, 2026. The bowl-front distance adds the gap each maker draws behind the tank to the overall length on its drawing. Every linked listing was sold by Amazon.com and in stock that day.
How to Choose a 10-Inch Rough-In Toilet
Confirm it is really 10 inches
Measure from the finished wall, not the baseboard, to the center of the closet bolts. American Standard’s 215AB104 sheet says the toilet is designed to rough in “at a minimum dimension” of 10 in. from the finished wall to the centerline of the outlet, and TOTO says to mount the flange at a nominal 10 in. to keep the right gap behind the tank. If you measure about 11 in., our rough-in guide covers the in-between cases.
A 10 in. rough-in does not mean a short toilet
The rough-in moves the drain, not the front of the bowl. From the makers’ drawings, the American Standard 215AB104 ends about 28-7/8 in. from the wall, the TOTO Drake .10 about 29-1/8 in. and the Kohler K-3889 about 30-1/4 in. (our arithmetic). That is a 1-3/8 in. spread (our arithmetic), which can decide whether a door clears. For the shortest bodies, see compact toilets for small bathrooms, and check whether the model you like comes in 10 in.
Pick the height
All four picks are chair height. Kohler and American Standard draw a 16-1/2 in. rim, and American Standard says its Right Height measures 17 in. with a seat. TOTO draws a 17-5/8 in. seat height with its included seat. For a lower bowl, see comfort height vs standard toilets.
Skirted toilets need an adapter
The skirted toilets in our skirted guide are built for a 12 in. rough-in, but two makers sell 10 in. adapters. Kohler’s Memoirs Stately K-6428 sheet lists a K-5383 10 in. Rough-in Full Skirt Trap and Attachment System, and TOTO’s Aquia IV sheet lists a TSU48.10 10 in. Unifit rough-in adapter. Our skirted toilet guide covers those toilets.
When to use an offset flange instead
An offset flange moves the toilet’s outlet off the center of the drain, so a toilet can sit on a drain that is a little out of place. Plumber’s note: it is a fix for a drain that is in the wrong spot, not a way around buying the right toilet. If your rough-in is a true 10 in., buy a 10 in. toilet. Our offset flange picks cover the cases where it is the right tool.
TOTO Drake MS776124CEFG.10 Two-Piece Toilet with SoftClose Seat
1.28 gpf, EPA WaterSense · Tornado Flush · 2-1/8 in. trap diameter · MaP 1,000 g · Universal Height: 16-1/8 in. rim, 17-5/8 in. seat height with the included seat on TOTO’s drawing · elongated · 10 in. rough-in · SoftClose seat included · CEFIONTECT glaze · 8 psi flowing minimum · one-year limited warranty
This is the 10 in. rough-in toilet that needs the fewest extra parts. TOTO’s sheet lists a 10 in. rough-in, its Tornado Flush at 1.28 gallons, CEFIONTECT glaze that it says keeps waste from sticking, and an SS124 SoftClose seat in the box. MaP lists the Drake .10 at 1,000 g and names the MS776124CEF(G).10 as one of the ways it is sold. TOTO’s drawing shows a 17-5/8 in. seat height with that seat, and its sheet says it is ADA compliant when installed with the trip lever on the approach side.
TOTO’s install note is the key to a 10 in. job: “To maintain adequate wall gap between the back of the tank and wall, mount the floor flange at a nominal 10” rough-in distance.” The drawing shows a 13/16 in. gap behind the tank and 28-5/16 in. of overall length, so the bowl ends about 29-1/8 in. from the wall (our arithmetic). The suggested supply is 7-1/2 in. up and 4-5/16 in. from center. TOTO lists a one-year limited warranty. If you would rather pick your own seat, TOTO’s Drake Transitional also comes in a 10 in. rough-in, the CST786CEFG.10, which MaP also lists at 1,000 g (Drake Transitional .10 on Amazon).
- SoftClose seat included
- MaP 1,000 g on 1.28 gallons
- TOTO states its 10 in. flange position for the tank gap
- ADA compliant with the lever on the approach side, per TOTO
- One-year limited warranty
- Supply line sold separately, per TOTO
- Left-hand lever on the linked model
- Seat height may be high for kids and shorter adults
Verdict: The 10 in. rough-in toilet to buy for most bathrooms: a 1,000 g flush, chair height and the seat in the box.
Kohler Highline K-3889 Comfort Height Toilet, 10 in. Rough-In
1.28 gpf, EPA WaterSense · Class Five flush · 2-1/8 in. fully glazed trapway · MaP 1,000 g · Comfort Height, 16-1/2 in. to the rim on Kohler’s drawing · elongated · 10 in. rough-in · three-bolt quick-connect · lifetime limited china, 5-year mechanical warranty (home use) · seat and supply line sold separately
Kohler’s Highline K-3889 is the 10 in. version of its Comfort Height two-piece. Kohler’s sheet lists a Class Five flush, a 2-1/8 in. fully glazed trapway and a three-bolt quick-connect tank, and MaP lists the K-3889 at 1,000 g. The drawing puts the rim at 16-1/2 in., the supply 5 in. up and 4-1/2 in. left of center, and a 3/4 in. gap behind the tank. The sheet says ADA compliant when installed to the regulation’s specific requirements.
It is not a short toilet. Kohler’s drawing gives 29-1/2 in. of overall length, so the bowl ends about 30-1/4 in. from the wall (our arithmetic), more than the TOTO or the American Standard here. The Amazon listing says the toilet is covered for up to a year; Kohler’s Toilets and Seats Limited Warranty, which the spec sheet points to, gives Highline toilets made after January 1, 2020 a lifetime limited warranty on the china and five years on mechanical parts in a home. We follow Kohler. Its current version (updated September 2025) covers only the original buyer and toilets bought from Kohler or a Kohler authorized seller. In a humid bathroom where the tank sweats, Kohler sells the K-3889-U with its Insuliner tank liner, which Kohler says minimizes condensation (K-3889-U on Amazon).
- Lifetime china warranty, per Kohler’s warranty sheet
- MaP 1,000 g on 1.28 gallons
- Insuliner version for a sweating tank
- ADA compliant when installed to the rules, per Kohler
- Longest of the picks: about 30-1/4 in. from the wall (our arithmetic)
- Seat and supply line sold separately
- Five-year mechanical warranty (Highline)
- Listing and Kohler disagree on warranty length
Verdict: The 10 in. toilet to buy if you want a Kohler and the longer china warranty, and the room has the length.
American Standard Cadet PRO Right Height 215AB104 Toilet, 10 in. Rough-In
1.28 gpf, EPA WaterSense · Cadet flushing system, 3 in. flush valve, PowerWash rim · 2-1/8 in. fully glazed trapway · MaP 1,000 g · 16-1/2 in. rim; American Standard says 17 in. tall with a seat · elongated · 10 in. rough-in · seat and supply sold separately · lifetime limited chinaware, 5-year limited parts warranty
American Standard’s 215AB104 is its Cadet PRO Right Height built for a 10 in. rough-in. Its sheet says the toilet is “designed to rough-in at a minimum dimension of” 10 in. from the finished wall to the centerline of the outlet, lists a 3 in. flush valve and a 2-1/8 in. fully glazed trapway, and gives a 1,000 g MaP score, which MaP’s list matches. It carries American Standard’s statement that it meets ADA guidelines and ANSI A117.1 requirements, with the note to check local codes.
It is the shortest pick here. American Standard’s drawing gives 28-1/4 in. of overall length with a 5/8 in. gap behind the tank, so the bowl ends about 28-7/8 in. from the wall (our arithmetic). That is useful in a small, older bathroom, which is where 10 in. rough-ins turn up. The drawing suggests a supply 10 in. above the floor and 6 in. from center, and American Standard sells a right-hand lever tank (4188B.105). The product page lists a limited lifetime warranty on the chinaware and 5 years on parts. The seat is sold separately.
- Shortest of the picks, about 28-7/8 in. from the wall (our arithmetic)
- MaP 1,000 g on 1.28 gallons
- ADA and ANSI A117.1 statement on the sheet
- Lifetime limited chinaware warranty, per American Standard
- Seat and supply sold separately
- Five-year parts warranty
- The Amazon title does not state the flush volume; the model number does
- Spec sheet revision is dated 5/13
Verdict: The 10 in. toilet for the tightest room, with chair-height seating and a 1,000 g flush.
Kohler Highline K-6393 Dual-Flush Toilet, 10 in. Rough-In
Dual flush 1.1 / 1.6 gpf, EPA WaterSense · Class Five · 2-1/8 in. fully glazed trapway · MaP 1,000 g · Comfort Height, 16-1/2 in. to the rim · elongated · 10 in. rough-in · nested trip lever · lifetime limited china, 5-year mechanical warranty (home use) · seat sold separately
The K-6393 is Kohler’s dual-flush Highline for a 10 in. rough-in. Kohler’s sheet says its left-hand nested trip lever “offers a choice of 1.1 or 1.6 gallons per flush,” with the same K-4373 bowl as the K-3889. MaP lists the K-6393 at 1,000 g. It is Comfort Height at a 16-1/2 in. rim, and the sheet says ADA compliant when installed to the regulation’s requirements.
Check your state’s toilet rules before you order a 1.6-gallon full flush; our single flush vs dual flush page covers the trade-offs. Kohler’s sheet lists EPA WaterSense, and its drawing gives the same 29-1/2 in. length, 3/4 in. tank gap and supply spot (5 in. up, 4-1/2 in. left) as the K-3889. Stock on the linked listing was short on October 3, 2026, so read the listing before you plan the install day.
- Half flush of 1.1 gallons for liquids
- MaP 1,000 g
- Same K-4373 bowl as the K-3889
- ADA compliant when installed to the rules, per Kohler
- Full flush is 1.6 gallons
- Linked listing was low on stock on October 3, 2026
- Five-year mechanical warranty (Highline)
- Seat sold separately
Verdict: The 10 in. toilet for a half flush, if 1.6 gallons on the full flush is allowed where you live.

Before You Buy
- Measure the rough-in twice. Finished wall to bolt center. About 10 in. means a 10 in. toilet.
- Measure to the nearest obstacle in front. Compare it with the bowl-front distances in the table.
- Find your shutoff. The drawings suggest a supply 7-1/2 in. up on the TOTO, 5 in. up on the Kohlers and 10 in. up on the American Standard.
- Count the parts. Only the TOTO includes a seat. All four need a supply line and a wax ring. See best toilet supply lines.
- Check the flush rules. Three picks flush 1.28 gallons. The K-6393 has a 1.6-gallon full flush. The Kohler toilets in our pressure-assist toilet guide are all 12 in. rough-in, so none of them fits a 10 in. drain.
Installing a 10-Inch Rough-In Toilet
It goes in like any floor-mount toilet: shut off the water, drain and pull the old toilet, scrape the flange, set a new wax ring, then set and bolt the bowl. Plumber’s note: before you set the new bowl, check that the old toilet really was a 10 in. model and not a 12 in. toilet jammed against the wall on an offset flange. If the flange sits below the finished floor, fix that first; see toilet flange too low. Our toilet replacement guide covers the full job, and how to replace a toilet wax ring covers the seal.
Moving a drain from 10 in. to 12 in. means opening the floor and resetting the closet bend. That is a job for a licensed plumber; ask your local building department whether it needs a permit.
FAQ
What is the best 10 inch rough-in toilet?
For most bathrooms, the TOTO Drake MS776124CEFG.10: 1.28 gallons, a 1,000 g MaP score, Universal Height and a SoftClose seat in the box. For a Kohler with a lifetime china warranty, the Highline K-3889. For the shortest toilet, the American Standard Cadet PRO 215AB104.
How do I know if I have a 10 inch rough-in?
Measure from the finished wall behind the toilet, not the baseboard, to the center of the closet bolts or the drain. About 10 in. means a 10 in. rough-in. Our rough-in guide shows how, and how to read odd measurements.
Can I put a 12 inch rough-in toilet on a 10 inch rough-in?
No. A 12 in. toilet needs 12 in. from the wall to the drain center, so on a 10 in. rough-in its outlet cannot reach the flange without the tank hitting the wall. The fixes are a 10 in. toilet or, for a real layout problem, an offset flange; see best offset toilet flanges.
Can I put a 10 inch rough-in toilet on a 12 inch rough-in?
It will bolt down, but it leaves about 2 in. more gap behind the tank than the maker drew (our arithmetic). TOTO says to mount the flange at a nominal 10 in. to keep the right wall gap on its 10 in. Drake, so the clean fit is a 12 in. toilet on a 12 in. rough-in.
Are 10 inch rough-in toilets smaller?
Not always. On the makers’ drawings, the bowl ends about 28-7/8 in. from the wall on the American Standard 215AB104, about 29-1/8 in. on the TOTO Drake .10 and about 30-1/4 in. on the Kohler K-3889 (our arithmetic). The rough-in moves the drain, not the front of the bowl. Measure your room against the drawing.

Bottom Line
A 10 in. rough-in needs a toilet made for it, and the big makers all make one. The TOTO Drake MS776124CEFG.10 is the one to buy for most bathrooms, the Kohler Highline K-3889 carries the longer china warranty, the American Standard Cadet PRO 215AB104 is the shortest, and the Kohler K-6393 adds a half flush. Measure the rough-in from the finished wall and the room in front of the toilet before you order.
